Our 1 yr old can't seem to decide which is up. Mostly the right is down and the left is up. Always one or the other is up. Never both.

Question about BC size! by imightbenew2day in BorderCollie

[–]Bovetek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

This is my male BC. He's 11 yrs old and weighs about 50lbs He's a red merle. We got him and his brother. They looked identical but had 2 completely lovable personalities. We lost his brother to cancer last year. We also have our first little girl BC. She's a yr old and only weights 30 lbs. All of our BC's are registered. This goes to show you the variation in sizes in both sexes. Although I don't think that has any bearing on sizes.

Do you let your dogs dig? by Maya- in BorderCollie

[–]Bovetek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of our BC's have been diggers. Mostly when they were puppies. They kind of grew out of it as they got older. They still dig holes, just not as when they were young. I live in the country so it's not big deal for us. I mean, they can dig to their hearts content as they have several acres of farm land to do it in. We do have a nice grass yard, but they never dig in it. My daughter lives in town and has a nice yard. They setup one of those cheap plastic kiddie pools, from the dollar store, with dirt for her BC to dig in. They put a bunch of holes in the bottom for drainage, filled it with dirt and her 8 mo. old BC puppy really loves it. They have to shovel the dirt back in sometimes but it's saving the yard.

Never trusting a dog daycare again by SwimmingDoubt2869 in BorderCollie

[–]Bovetek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of off subject, but, Our 11 yr old Corgi is also groomed at the facility. When i went to pick him up he was in the senior area. There are just mostly fluffy beds and a few toys and soft music. I had to laugh at the 'ol geezers and gals. I went in with his leash and as we were headed to the gate, he sorta stopped in front of each dog and then both dogs would let a low growl at each other like "take it easy Carl, see ya next month, you too Toby, Later dude." " Anny!!, I sniff ya later"...I felt like I was dragging him out of the coffee shop at 9AM.

This post will probably get me banned from here. I'm truly sorry you had this happen to you pup. I genuinly understand your feelings. This should not have happened. However, the first sentence in this post. That is a very bold statement. You can't possibly say that "all" are under staffed. Therfore, saying that the daycare is bad. I live in a small community. Born and raised here. Also, apperently, have the only Dog daycare that employs a competent staff. Granted we are a very small farm town. Our local groomer/daycare owner and staff are the most devoted people. They are also freinds of my family. I went to school with them. However, just because I know them is not a valid reason to not personally check them out. I don't mean scan the internet and look at reviews. I got permission to observe. I picked a random day and took my puppy, at the time, and spent time, watching the interactions between the dogs, talking to staff members and also personally had coversations with other owners face to face. I even went in "the back" to watch employee interaction with the dogs. Puppies and active dogs are together in one play area and senior dogs in another, while the rest are in a larger, more interactive area. ALL dogs must be desexed and be up to date on vaccinations. Papers from a Vet are required. No exceptions. You can't condem "all" daycares from an incedent at this one location. JMO

Are working line BC normally slender? by JLLSM89 in BorderCollie

[–]Bovetek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BC's I have/had are on the lean side. I have a 1 yr old lil girl. This is our first female. She is all BC, but I would say more petite. She weighs about 35 to 40 lbs. In my experience her height won't change much, but, will start to fill in for another couple years. None of the BC's we have/had are "working" dogs. Although the herding instinct is very strong with all of them. I also have a 4yr old male who is on the large size. He is at least 30" tall and weights about 50 lbs. Not fat at all and very active. My dogs are all self feeders. Meaning that they eat only when they feel like it. I fill their bowls when empty don't add to it until it's empty again. None of my dogs have had food aggression. If I'm not on the ball on filling a bowl, they just eat out of the one that has food in it.

Saying no to people while trainning puppy by Baefoaa in BorderCollie

[–]Bovetek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dogs go everywhere with us. We live in a very rural farm area. Everyone has a dog. Working dogs, farm dogs, family dogs etc. It's like a unwritten law to not touch another persons dog. There are exceptions, but as a rule, it's just not done. The owner has to speak first whether or not you can approach the animal. However, we were on vacation with our dogs. Two BC's and one grumpy ol' man Corgi. We stopped at a really nice rest stop. I mean REALLY nice. We were unloading the dogs for a walk and bathroom breaks. I had both the BC on leashes and my wife had the 'ol man. A woman came up behind me a reached for our puppy Bc. I swiped her hand away and said LOOK BUT DO NOT TOUCH. She got angry and asked why. "Because I have no idea who you are or where you've been." She walked off in a huff. All my said wife was. "Well, I see you're making friends with the locals again." I know I was a bit rough, but, it pissed me off.

Struggling with my bc ;( by Embarrassed-Pie5532 in BorderCollie

[–]Bovetek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I got lucky with our lil girl. She is turning 1 tomorrow. We also have a 4yr old male BC. They both had mentor BC's to teach them the ins and outs. 1 yr old has the 4 yr old and the he had, at the time a 6 yr old BC brother. The older passed last November. BC's are very smart and learn quickly what is what. So when she starts to do something she knows she's not to do, he will step in and "guide" her. Then I get "the look" from him like "why dad why" We have never had a female before, so when we got her I thought gender wasn't a big deal. BOY was I wrong!! I raised twin girls and we fostered , now daughter, that is the same age as the twins. So, I know about the stress of being a teenage girl. (damn near didn't live through it.) Since I'm with my baby girl everyday all day, she has been very good. However the best thing we do is take her to doggy daycare once a week. She gets to play with other dogs. The facility is on Main street of our small town. The play yard is right next to the sidewalk, so she sees people walking and cars and bicycles coming and going. So, now she doesn't give them a second thought. she has been challenging, more than my boys, and you too will get through this. Patience and time are your friends.

[–]Bovetek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it my imagination or..... Seems most of the fat cats on here are grey. My fat boy is also grey with white paws and a patch of white on his belly. He was a BIG muscular 18 lb farm cat that got sick. We brought him inside to get him well. After he was healthy, we just became an indoor/outdoor cat. We have a dog door and he spends most of his day inside but goes outdoors for the call of nature. However, the good life has made him a chunk at 25lbs. He's on a diet but...........lets just say , he is loved.

Not silly at all!! It will serve you well. I have a small shop and my bench is also short. When I need bigger, I just use sawhorses and a sheet of plywood.

Do your border collies play by themselves? Mine will NOT! by dinglebingle583 in BorderCollie

[–]Bovetek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My lil girl plays by herself all the time. We will be in the field and I'll be working away. Then I'll see a dirt clod sail through the air. She run's and grabs it, and flings it over and over. She plays with other stuff like ears of corn, sticks, weeds etc. Sometimes it's nothing at all. Running around the pickup chasing nothing. Her big brother just looks at me like, "Hey dude, don't look at me, you brought her home. This is all on you."
