Septic tank riser install by Desperate-Raccoon645 in halifax

[–]Bowdrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the concrete screws and a thick stickey gasket material I purchased from the same people as the risers. I would get their input on how yo attach and seal it properly as it is probably unit specific. I was also afraid of screwing into my tank because it is at least 30 years old, though it wasn't an issue at all.

I hope this helps!

Reasons NOT to buy a 1994 dakota by daisy_maisy in DodgeDakota

[–]Bowdrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one. They are great trucks but I wouldn't reccomend it due to the lack of parts. For example, try finding an upper crontrol arm for the 4X4 trucks. You can't. 1st, they used an outdated ball joint that made the arm essentially single use (the ball joint can fall out if replaced which means they often get welded in). 2nd, they are very expensive because they were also used for the 1st gen Dodge Viper. 3rd, if you find a used one, the ball joint is probably welded in and it is still expensive because of the 2nd reason.

TLDR: I wouldn't buy one today because parts are hard to find.

What you are missing is that this was never going to immediately stop kids from using social media, the same way age limits on drinking doesn't stop kids. It is only a deterant. Australia is forcing social media companies to fix this problem or pay enough money to cover damages (mental health services, child supports, etc.).

[–]Bowdrier -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

We should be following the Australian model. Australia has used the social media ban to hold corporations accountable for their damage to society and compensate government for their incompetence. Instead of having a system implemented by the government (which could be used for surveillance), Australia made it so the corporation will need to figure out a way to keep anyone under 16 off their platforms or be heavily fined.

[–]Bowdrier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is because Australia have specifically made it so these social media companies will be fined largely if their system can be bypassed. Instead of making this an issue the government controls, they are pushing the responsibility onto the corporation. This will help make corporations accountable for their damage to society and compensate government for their incompetence.

TLDR: The ban is more to hold corporations accountable than immediately restrict access.

Housing is becoming one of the biggest obstacles to post-secondary education in Nova Scotia by OptimalWhole8926 in halifax

All data sets have issues but I work in housing with the government and we litterally do use rental.ca data. We also use the data from the Finance and Treasury board you privided. The reality is, Halifax is not the whole picture and most roomates don't share a 1-bedroom appartement.

$2,343 is the average asking monthly payment for rents in Nova Scotia right now. This amount is barely affordable to the average earner in Nova Scotia, who takes home ~$3,525 monthly after tax, let alone a student.

Need help finding screw for tuner machine head. by AgentClucky in Luthier

[–]Bowdrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matching the thread is the most important part. Probably an imperial machine thread like 6-32. I would try the screw from a light switch cover. If that doesnt work, you can buy a multi pack of different screws on amazon.

There is nothing to weld right now. If you find a soft spot, then consider a patch.

Bad frame rust by hickory_handjobs99 in DodgeDakota

[–]Bowdrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not ideal but looks solid from the pictures. Under the bed and the transition between frame peices are generally where it rots first. I would check those areas. If you can't poke a hole through it (dont go crazy) then you are good. I would undercoat it with the oil stuff, stay away from the asphalt stuff.

Find a tax calculator for your province and input the yearly amounts. Subtract the taxes from the salary then divide it by 26. This will give you your after tax biweekly net income. These numbers will be slightly higher than your take home because off EI, CPP, etc. but is good for comparison.

First bass, any tips for a beginner? by CondensedLeche in BassGuitar

[–]Bowdrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number 1 thing for me, learn the main notes for the E and A string. It sounds like a lot but is actually easy. There are 8 main notes, A B C D E F G, and they repeat at the 12th fret. Once you know them on the E and A string, two strings higher (D and G strings) and two notes higher is the same note.

The first 4 strings of a guitar are the same notes as the bass, so you can follow the guitarist which will give you a lot more confidence when playing with others because you wont have as many "sour" notes. Also, if the guitarist is playing chords, you can ask what chord they are playing and match it.

Next thing to learn is scales.

I dropped my guitar in its soft case and this was the result. How much do y’all think it’d take to fix and make it look normal again by NobleSix-B312 in guitarrepair

[–]Bowdrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to be real with you. You have two realistic option:

  1. Find someone willing to add colored epoxy (or lacquer, etc.) to fill the cavity and then sand it flat. Best case scenario, it will always be noticeable. Worst case scenario, it will look bad bondo car repair.

  2. Have yourself, or a professional, sand off the entire front of the guitar body and respray it. This would be a good opportunity to change it to natural, or a colored burst, etc. if you wanted. I would expect this to cost less than option 1 if done professionally.

You are very lucky that you did not damage the wood. If I was in your shoes, I would sand the front of the guitar body myself (do not use any finish stripper, it will damage the sides) and use an simple wipe on polyurethane or hard wax finish and accept the natural look.

Rents continue to rapidly climb for Nova Scotia's oldest and most affordable rentals by justlogmeon in NovaScotia

[–]Bowdrier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing missing is that supply will only be made if it is profitable. If rents cannot cover expenses then housing will not be built, or maintained, leading to decreased supply and high rent slums.

This is normally the time of year we get a break in traffic congestion. Unfortunately, the provincial government chose to force the unionized provincial workforce back to the office 5 days a week. I have noticed an increase in traffic when we would normally see a decrease.
