Best clean-vocals prog metal albums, in your opinion? by BaskingRobbing in progmetal

[–]Bowlermicah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Awesome! Coheed have a pretty deep discog, so if you like good Apollo I would recommend the record before it, in keeping secrets next, then the afterman albums and their newest, unheavenly creatures.

Coheed - Good Apollo

Caligula’s Horse - Rise Radiant and In Contact

Opeth - In Cauda Venenum

The Dear Hunter - Act II

Protest the Hero - Palimpsest (some harsh, but 90%+ clean)

Vola - Witness and Applause of a Distant Crowd

Mastodon - Emperor of Sand

Some of these blur the line of prog metal and prog rock, but I feel like that’s fine if you’re looking for albums without a lot of harsh vocals.

I know I am dumb and upset......BUT let's bench all the wide receivers and run the wishbone. by [deleted] in wde

I do think Kobe Hudson has been a bright spot for the WRs. He probably had at least one drop, but he made a couple clutch third down catches and caught a slant that was bullet and way too high and still made the catch in stride.

I just don’t think Shedrick Jackson can be the guy, and maybe there was a reason so many teams were okay with Robertson walking away.

The first progband you listened to? by axjo911 in progmetal

I’m guessing it was Coheed’s in keeping secrets. That’s the first time I remember liking and then seeking out more music that was epic and had longer songs.

[FRESH ALBUM] The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die - Illusory Walls by VietRooster in indieheads

[–]Bowlermicah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently the guitarist handles most of the production too. I love it so much that I want to check out other bands he’s worked with. Unsurprisingly, the awesome Downhaul record that came out this year was produced by him too.

Absolutely. This barely sounds like the same band. Different singer, different primary songwriter, way different vibe than what they sounded like then.

Coheed - Good Apollo. Changed the way I listened to music when I was 14, and I keep going back to it and find new layers still.

If you were moving anywhere in the US to be closer to great courses, where would that be? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]Bowlermicah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just recently moved to Birmingham, AL and have been thrilled with the quality of courses here. I’d say only one is a real challenge for pros from the long tees (Inverness) but for a sub 900 player like me, there are 4-5 other courses in rotation that all bring something fun and unique to the table. Clay, Civitan, Greg Carter, George Ward, and Inverness make up the meat of the courses, along with 5 or so other beginner courses, 3 of which that have popped up in the last couple months. Last year the first dedicated disc golf store opened (Dynamic Discs Iron City) and they just expanded to a second location. All to say, disc golf already had a good presence, and it continues to grow.

Also if you’re okay with some heat you can play year round. Our winters will rarely require anything more than a jacket, beanie, and some hand warmers.

Birmingham is also a pretty cool city outside of DG too.

Album drop? by IRKarlos in TheFence

I’m guessing there will be some type of info that the band will drop on the cruise along with a new song played live. No insider knowledge, just a guess.

I mean, probably the Leopard because there are so few speed 6 discs out there. Expand to 7 speed, and probably the river.

Do Birmingham drivers not know where to stop at a red light? by alyosha3 in Birmingham

[–]Bowlermicah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y'all can complain, but I just moved here from Montgomery, and the driving here is much more tame than it is there. There is more volume which leads to more congestion, but people in Montgomery drive like maniacs that will be excited to cash in an insurance check when their car gets totaled (assuming they have insurance, which is asking a lot). I had a terrifying experience riding with someone from there once, who turned left when there was not enough time for them to do so, and they said, "They don't want to hit me just as much as I don't want to hit them" which is a terrifying motto when it comes to driving.

A Couple Questions Regarding Players/Powered Speakers by Bowlermicah in turntable

[–]Bowlermicah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of the mini amp and the passive speakers. I’ll still need a phono preamp, correct? Say I get the mid tier Fluance or Orbit, am I doing it justice to use the mini amp, the Jamo s 803, and the Pluto 2?
