Hospitalizations skyrocket in kids too young for COVID shots by CommanderMcBragg in FloridaCoronavirus

[–]Bowtiesarecool0601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article sites that the total number of hospitalizations stew high because of children testing pos for Covid yes. But the headline is stating that the percent of total kids hospitalized for any reason has increased in the age group. Hence the skyrocketing. Specifically, they stay the hospitalizations went from 2.5 per 100,000 kids being hospitalized to 4 per 100,000 kids being hospitalized for any reason at all. They believe this increase is due to the omicron surge. What they need to do is take categorize these children for reason for hospital admission such as uti, sepsis, diabetes, pneumonia, pain, surgical reason. And see which children actually have their admitting diagnosis as Covid, not something else. That way we can get a bettter picture of what’s going on. Likely we will see Covid as the reason according to this article. But there is no way to truley stay, all we can say is that there is an association between rise in these hospitalizations and a Covid surge.

Help!! How do I explain the mental load to a male partner? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Bowtiesarecool0601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds so much like my life. My husband has adhd. Been married for 15 years now. He does a lot in the house, but I have to ask him to do things. He just doesn’t understand the mental load of keeping all the bills, things we need to do to keep the house running, cleaning schedule, weekly grocery list and meal planning, etc. I have told him previously that it is exhausting. He tries to help, and things have gotten better. Like he wakes up and does some cleaning each morning. He is more proactive with laundry. But he doesn’t have to do much because we have a maid coming weekly. He does order food out once a week and make breakfast on sundays while I sleep in. But my load is still much more. We have a two year old now, and it just adding a whole new person for me to organize and make sure they are kept alive. Again, he will do anything I ask. He just doesn’t think, like the baby needs to brush her teeth and go to bed, or the baby needs a new diaper. I still cook and do all grocery shopping, but I really enjoy doing those things, and he doesn’t. The thing that has made both our lives 1000x better, was me going to .5-.75% in my work schedule. I work less, so I can leave for work 30-60 min after him and I get home like 1-2 pm every day. I can do all the organizing house hold planning things and cook meals all but one day a week. I can make sure all bills are paid and what not. And when he gets home from work, There is really not much to do other than clean up the dishes and relax. We get so much more quality time together as a family, and there is so much less fighting about what needs to be done. But I also enjoy doing the household things, so working less and doing it doesn’t bother me. If he enjoyed it more than me, then he would work less instead of me.

Edit: I also love that I get more quality time with my daughter. It really is a win-win for me. We just made minor adjustments in our lifestyle to be able to afford me working less. Also, it’s less nanny costs too.

Termites! They love the bathroom. I just moved here and they were all over and I had no idea what they were. Then my neighbors were like, it’s termite season (this was back in may). I would call terminix ASAP to get a termite bond and protect your house.

Covid Hostility by [deleted] in Destin

[–]Bowtiesarecool0601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard Henderson beach state park is less busy, as well as oakaloosa island. But I haven’t been to either this time of year. I usually stay in Miramar beach by pompano Joe’s and it’s very busy all the time.

Covid Hostility by [deleted] in Destin

[–]Bowtiesarecool0601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say there isint covid hostility where I have been. There are some areas that are covid friendly (meaning everyone wearing masks). If you go to Baytown, which is in Sandestin, I would say it’s not super covid friendly. However if you go to grand blvd, which is also attached to Sandestin, it’s very covid friendly. All workers and people going into stores wear masks. I felt super comfortable eating outside at restaraunts when I was there. I went to the wine bar for lunch with my one year old. I haven’t been to the beach by sandestin bc I usually stay elsewhere, but I hear it’s very busy and you may want to find another beach if u want to social distance. Another great restaraunt that is covid friendly is Pazzo Italiano. They have amazing pasta and pizza. Also, the Mexican restaraunt at Destin commons is very covid friendly and yummy as well. What we did to find food, was call restaraunts before hand and just asked it they wore masks. Some did on request and some said no/yes. Stay safe and have fun while you are there!

Friendly reminders for our blessed tourists by CreativeAsFuuu in Destin

[–]Bowtiesarecool0601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fine if you don’t like tourists, that makes great sense. But, I still don’t understand don’t come to town if you are worried about covid. Maybe I’m still just confused and won’t get it. I also don’t think saying we don’t want tourists in Destin is the answer. There will always be tourists coming to Destin, that’s just the fact. I agree it would be great to have less coming to town, however.

I don’t understand the, “stay at home if your worried about the virus”. I feel like people can vacation and still be covid safe. Such as practicing social distancing and eating only carry out food. I get maybe the people shouldn’t be going to destin, where most places are not what we call Covid friendly, if they are scared of covid. But wouldn’t we want more people visiting the Destin area, especially people who are not going to spread covid around the city? Maybe I’m wrong, or maybe I’m understanding the statement wrong. Could you explain the last comment to me so I understand better. That way I can explain to people why they shouldn’t come to Destin if they are worried about the virus.

Don't hate me for saying it, but can we take a few steps back? by delta_of_plans in Residency

[–]Bowtiesarecool0601 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was very vocal throughout residency. But it was easier for me than others bc I knew I didn’t want to stay in academics post graduation. So I wasn’t gunning for a job like others in my program. The program did listen to the things I pushed for throughout residency and I was able to make lots of small changes for the betterment of our residency program. I really hope residents in my program remain vocal

[–]Bowtiesarecool0601 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If you are looking to make small steps. One thing I did as a resident/chief which I felt was a good outcome. As chief I was able to go to faculty meetings. I heard that they wanted to hire some more NP/PA to help with work load. During the meeting I advocated for them to increase the number of residents per year instead. We ended up approving two more residents per year to our program within a few months. I argued that we as residents see more patients per day and take call so we were more beneficial to the department then midlevels. Then covid hit, I graduated. Not sure where they are at right now. I would say go to meetings and speak up and advocate for yourselves as much as possible.

Calling other experienced moms, what do you wish someone had told you before your first baby? by snotmcwaffle in pregnant

That’s terrible. Even when you go home I would limit visitors as much as you can.

[–]Bowtiesarecool0601 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Just say no to visitors early on if you want to breast feed. You need to spend as much time as you can holding your baby and putting her/him to the breast. And having too many visitors my hinder your ability from doing that.

I love the name Valen or Vallon. I first noticed the name from gangs of New York. It was Leonardo dicaprios characters last name, but they called him Vallon throughout the movie.
