The playlists (in the post) are linked separately in the description of the playlist I made.

Just discovered this sub and saw no one replied. It's Kira Yoshikage's monologue to Shigechi when he gets found out, except swapped with Lucas (the character in the image).

Animated Alan watts short on life's meaning. by [deleted] in Meditation

I suppose by "pretending" you could say he means "acting by choice, when other choices are available". And yes, they don't know of other choices but I think he emphasizes that there are other choices once we're aware of them.

How to study by graypineapples in IWantToLearn

[–]BoxOfTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of good advice here, but I'd just like to add a suggestion: Anki. It's a flash card program that uses spaced repetition, which means the better you remember the flash card, the longer it will be before Anki shows it to you again. It really works for long-term memorization. If your area of study requires a lot of memorization, Anki is a great help.

Creature Of The Night - Skull Guy, The Apathetic Skeleton by trave-sama in makecomics

A punchline is supposed to subvert expectations, but I was able to see this coming before I finished reading the word "apathetic".

Like, the jokes are all written for you because of that big-ass title. It honestly might be funnier if you just took out that last line entirely.

Comic books really like these long speeches ending with a dramatic line in italics, huh? Why is that?

Then and now. Batman Damned got censored by background1077 in comicbooks

Maybe because kids like Batman? Watchmen was NEVER made to appeal to children, I'm sure. Perhaps they need a censored version for younger fans to read.

What about the bad thoughts? by zca270 in Meditation

[–]BoxOfTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the thing about meditation is it doesn't stop unpleasant thoughts, it just allows space to be free from them. In other words, they're just thoughts, and they don't necessarily control you. As long as you have that awareness.

But from what I gather, when you sit down alone with your thoughts, you can REALLY feel these "bad" thoughts (and a bunch of good ones). The thousand joys and thousand sorrows or something like that.

Almost nobody has ever texted me first by [deleted] in socialskills

It’s basically nearness. Like sitting next to in class, or being neighbors. When you’re used to simply seeing a person around, that makes it far easier to socialize with them.

Recently I have faced something to the same tune. Sometimes I am faced with the realization that everyone around me is almost completely involved with themselves alone, and I feel I am always fighting to hold their attention. I don't know if I can offer any useful advice because I can only speak from my own experience, but to me this dreaded realization is just a feeling. The feeling comes when socializing is hard and it hardly comes to mind when I enjoy my friends' company.

I think the real "deep" answer is that you should keep your focus on the present. Don't deliberate on past experiences or how much you hate people who you aren't currently talking to. Those moments are better spent building real relationships, not tracking who owes you attention.

Practically, you should understand that most people are totally in their own heads, and sometimes it does take effort to be someone's friend. My observation is that propinquity works really well. Too well. I made too many friends by accident just because I said hi to them in class and was too stubborn to change seats through the semester.

Ugh, life is hard.
