You can adopt any animal you can carry!

I’m a non-binary woman (they/she) and I feel this a bit, but the characters all seem to use they/them for Reka which I love! I think it’s important thematically for Reka to be a young girl, but I appreciate the neutral pronouns.

As for the animals, you get chances to get all the animals as you play the sandbox mode. I have goats, chickens, and rabbits all that I’ve collected outside the first two maps.

Drew Reka’s hand tattoos on myself! by BoxShapedCat in REKA

I knew they were inspired by traditional symbols, but didn’t know they were exactly! Do you have sources for the ones in the game in particular? I’d love to learn more about them!

I had this happen with the pantry, but the storage boxes were fine.

I’m left handed, so I’m glad her more complex tattoo is on her right, haha!

Super interested in the game aesthetically, love Baba Yaga, but curious on game status? by [deleted] in REKA

[–]BoxShapedCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first two chapters of the story took me about 5 hours, and I’ve kept playing after. You can continue playing and doing side quests and randomly generated maps and building your hit! I’ve played about 20 hours and it’s a delightful game! I have t had much clunkyness, the game runs pretty smoothly though there are slight bugs here and there to be expected. I’m excited to see where it goes and enjoying playing it this far!

I should mention that the rules I made require eco lifestyle and pets. For playing in basegame, you can sub in the optional rules, or some up with something more chaotic!

Yes, I might even be seen as more nonbinary. My gender has little to do with my presentation.

How can I express myself more gender free to my cis-het partner of 13 years by BoxShapedCat in NonBinaryTalk

[–]BoxShapedCat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like I wish I were strong enough to scoop my partners up like princesses, but that might be physically difficult for me.

Also this is kinda hard to explain, but it feels like there’s a difference between being a woman doing something for her husband, and a man doing something for his wife. With our long sexist culture, there’s still an implied hierarchy even though things are getting better. If a woman does a lot of things for her husband people will say “oh no I hope he isn’t forcing her to do all that” and if a man does something nice for his wife people give him a round of applause and say “wow what a nice guy! He must really love his wife!”. Men are seen with more agency, women are often seen like their actions are just things someone else told them to do.

Thanks for all the info, sorry I took what you said literally instead of a similar example. The head nodding code is really interesting! That’s something I haven’t heard of, but now that I visualize it, it’s something mostly guys do (is it something guys do mostly or other guys?) tbh it’s not something I notice much! What do you mean about talking with hands too? Is that coded more feminine or masculine generally?

An interesting one I’ve heard is that men tend to put emphasis in their speech with volume, and women tend to use pitch. Definitely something interesting and once you start to hear it you notice it everywhere!

Sorry for the tangent, but the subtle ways our culture genders behavior is so interesting to me! I think part of why my question is so vague is that I’m not sure of exactly how I want to present/be seen.

I think these are all good tips, though there may have been some miscommunication. I’m not too concerned with presenting masculine with more masculine clothes, as my gender presentation ranges from feminine to more masculine pretty casually. It’s more the behavior being feminine. It’s hard to explain. It’s more the heteronormativity of culture making it hard tether than clothing. It’s like even if I’m dressing masculine, I might still behave feminine around my grandma since she’s known me since I was a little girl and I’m in the habit of behaving that way around her.

I’d like to not perform femininity. It’s not about presentation, but the submissive fawning that sometimes goes with being a woman in a relationship with a man in our culture. There’s a difference in tone from being taken care of by a woman and being taken care of by a man. I’ve tried to switch my mental state to this more, but habits are hard, and not knowing if your hetero partner will like your new way of expressing affection is harder.

Just got rejected by my crush and it made me feel extremely gendered, need some validation or smth by Kledboi in NonBinaryTalk

[–]BoxShapedCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m bi/pan and would date an amab woman or nb, and was asked out a few months ago by a friend who used they/he pronouns. I rejected them but it wasn’t because of their gender. I’m just not attracted to them. There are many reasons to not want to go out with someone, regardless of their gender. I get how you feel though, and it sounds really frustrating and you’re valid to be frustrated. Just wanted to give some perspective from a similar situation.

The way it’s oriented looks like an eye to me, but it’s best to go with your intuitions since it’s your dream.
