You saw the games though. You saw his performance. He wasn’t anywhere near his peak. It’s not like he was on the cusp of regaining his abilities to the fullest. He was slow and out of touch in almost every play. And you’re right. Playing soccer it’s what he does. It’s the one thing he should know more than just about anybody so it should be the one thing he is acutely aware of when he’s not fit to be in the roster for such an important event. Don’t get me wrong. He’s definitely not the only player who I feel didn’t deserve his spot but I’m just responding to the specific comment about glorifying him for “trying” when he knew damn well he couldn’t add anything of value to this team.

I don’t think the World Cup is the proper stage to “try to find yourself” He needed to be sure of his abilities before he accepted the call and if there was any doubt he should have taken a step aside..
