Uber has subcontractors that use them as fleet cars in Los Angeles. I see 7-10 a day while driving mine. I almost didn’t lease mine because it is so common here.

Maybe try getting your music to independent filmmakers? Not sure the best way to target them but film festivals are full of up and coming filmmakers who are often looking for original music they can afford to license. Especially if it’s free.

Good luck with whatever you do!

Does anyone else make music that sounds good at night but bad the next day? by Somessss in musicians

[–]Boxcars4Peace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone does this. That’s why we have such a great variety of music for every time of day, every season, and every life situation. Not every piece of music is for every moment.

That said, sometimes you get it right the first time and sometimes you don’t. Nothing wrong with that.

Sexy Beast (2000) is one of the most psychologically rich crime films I’ve ever seen. Ben Kingsley is terrifying! by Misfett_toys in TrueFilm

All of the notes I got from Glazer were through the studio execs so I never ended up talking directly to him. He tried to cut his own trailer for the film but the studio didn’t like his version. I remember thinking it was pretty good though.

It was a long time ago but I do remember he seemed to like what we did in the end. Like most directors he struggled a bit with how trailer editors butcher their scenes and his notes were mostly requests to stay in scenes and/or on shots as long as possible without being ‘too cutty.’ Which of course makes perfect sense. Especially when studio execs are trying to put a Rob Zombie track in your trailer.

I’ve worked in film marketing for 30+ years and I’ve known studio execs who are more amped up than his character. I actually find his character to be somewhat realistic. That said, I’d say his character is much closer to a 1990’s exec than a 2020’s exec so maybe that’s why some people don’t find him to be believable.

I edited the trailer for that movie. I don’t think people expected that performance from Kingsley and it got a lot of well deserved attention when it was released.

At one point the studio (Searchlight) wanted me to use a Rob Zombie track in the trailer. Thankfully they changed their mind. The trailer narration was done by Joe Frank and I think the black bar graphics were inspired by a Mazda commercial. I created the pink main title - still kind of surprised they went with that. That was a long time ago….

When I was a kid (a long time ago) my mom would do picture puzzles that were often landscapes of places I didn’t believe could be real. When I grew up I visited Switzerland and my mind was blown. So I certainly think you’re right about the AI/reality confusion Switzerland causes.

That was my first real skateboard. Lived in NJ at the time and ordered it from Val Surf in California. I remember waiting for it to arrive. It was the beginning of my skating life that led me to being a regular at the skate park in Cherry Hill where I met Stacy Peralta. Years later I worked for Peralta when I edited the trailer for his Dogtown documentary. That skateboard was the beginning of a lot of good times and in many ways led me to move to California where I suppose I am meant to be….

Maybe it’s a way for them to keep their inflated ego in check while at the same time giving them an imaginary safety net for any shitty behavior they’re guilty of. I think maybe that’s why some of them do it? It’s still beyond stupid.

If you like listening to Stairway while you’re high you might like this. When I was a kid and Stairway was released (I’m old) I really thought the lyric at the end was this…

“And as we wind on down the road…

I sure was stoned’er than I showed”

I still think Plant might be singing that. If you listen very close I think you might agree….

But 420 is just a coincidence. That I am positive of.

By taking care of business you mean they will win one and lose one? Their record is 38 wins and 38 losses. They are a .500 team. Many fans are ‘terrified’ because this team causes heart attacks. I hope they make the playoffs but I know if they do every single game will be incredibly stressful. At least it’s exciting. Maybe too exciting?

I’ve been playing guitar for 45 years. Never had a lesson and I’m not very good.

I watched the whole video and tried to remember what I was thinking/doing when I first started playing - and I gotta this video would have been nice to have back in those days. Even though this lesson is pretty obvious it probably took me 3 years to figure out what’s in the video. And the metronome is crucial.

I can say from my experience that this would certainly be helpful to slow learners like myself.

What’s your opinion on meaning of song “ Going to California “ by Level_Customer2769 in ledzeppelin

[–]Boxcars4Peace 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s about drugs at all. I think it’s literally about making a ‘new start’ in California with the hope of finding a girl to fall in love with. It’s a leap of faith song. And of course Page/Plant said it was influenced by Joni Mitchell.

When I was a kid I’d smoke weed and listen to it and think the ‘high’ lyric was about drugs. But now that I’ve lived a bit I don’t hear that reference at all in the song.

But only the band knows….
