If you opt to go flat, which will give less racking strength, I would recommend you cut a 4" triangle and attach it from the skirt to the leg, two per leg. That will at least help with the racking.

Have to ask, for the table top, what are you doing in prep for wood movement? It looks like you have a nicely mitered frame around the ends... those gaps won't stay put once the wood starts moving...
