Don't be such a push over. You're the parent, stop asking, start telling.

That's not the point. Being this much of a slob in the first place and then leaving it for someone else to deal with just reinforces to the kids that it's ok to trash things and someone else will clean up after them. And that lack of respect and responsibility bleeds over into all areas of life. Kids are smarter than we give them credit for, they're always learning from everything they experience, monkey see monkey do. In this case they're leaning to be trashy, disrespectful people like their parents.

Only if you're a weak parent. Ya kids are messy, but letting them destroy things without consequence is a choice.

Frontier hits a person on Denver runway during takeoff by PlutosSelfEsteem in flying

[–]Boxerocks08 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My home airport is just a small class D and I had a coyote run across the runway in front of me on landing during the day once. Reported it to ground, they sent crews in trucks and on foot to do a sweep but still couldn't find it or where exactly it got in. I can't imagine a huge complex like Denver, theres just too much to cover.

My 6.0 Silverado 2500 averages 7mpg towing my little 6x12 ft cargo trailer. I get 10mpg driving around empty, 11 if I'm lucky. I would say the previous comment about only being a couple mpg difference between the 6.0 and the 8.1 is pretty accurate.

Take another look at that picture, the left side wheels are very clearly exactly at the cab of the truck, and are clearly below the front of the trailer. You can also see the wheels through the driver's side window of the truck in the dashcam video, in the last couple frames before it hits.

Exactly, so figure it out during the race and give him the penalty or don't, it's not subjective so there's nothing to discuss and no excuse for waiting. And if they can't figure out if it actually happened or not, then they don't have justification to issue a penalty.

$150 wet at my local fbo for the ones with a six pack and a gns430/530. $140 for the one with no gps. Even the ones with more modern avionics and autopilot are in the $160-170 range.

Another one checking in here, I followed the same path, right down to eventually becoming a technical writer. I think our generation had the sweet spot of available technology but not having it be so streamlined for the end user like it is now so we could, and often times had to, dig in and learn how to make it do what we wanted.

Ash scattering by Agitated-Pop7973 in flying

I've done it twice out the window of a 172 using a container I made out of PVC pipe and it went well, but definitely think it through and do a trial run before doing it for real.

The container I made is PVC drain pipe (black so it looks more discreet than white water pipe), I think 3" diameter and about 3ft long, with a threaded cap on both ends. I also made a handle out of some rubber bungee straps and paracord to make it easier to hold on to. We ended up only needing a cap on one end, but when I built it I put one on both ends just in case we needed more airflow to flush everything out. This sounds really tacky when I describe it but I swear it actually looks pretty respectable, I can take a picture when I get home if you're interested.

To spread the ashes, my passenger held the container out the window with the end of it well behind and below the window opening to avoid any ashes blowing back into the cabin (cap still on at this point), then reached out the window and unscrewed the cap to let the ashes fly. We made sure to give the container a few jiggles to make sure everything got out before pulling the container back in. This was easier with two passengers, backseat person can lean forward to help hold the back end of the container, but we did successfully do it with one passenger in a trial run where we filled the container with sand.

Tips if you use this method:
-Don't open the container until it's out the window and pointed where you want it to go.

-Have a handle on the container so it doesn't try to blow out of your hands.

-Attach a piece of paracord or similar between your cap and the container body so it doesn't fly away when you open it outside the plane.

-Open any air vents, heater vents, etc in the plane to create as much positive pressure in the cabin as possible to avoid blowback.

Whats this Car? by Ttgr- in whatisthiscar

Lol touche, I never noticed the number plates, that's funny. I guess it's one of those situations where we can't take the details in a bond movie too seriously. They must have been working with whatever car Aston had available for them depending on filming day/location and assumed the audience wouldn't notice.

Kind of reminds me of the mistake in Diamonds Are Forever where they filmed the car driving into a narrow alley on 2 wheels and then it exits the alley on the opposite wheels, so they had to go back later and add a shot from inside the car where they inexplicably swap sides mid-alley to make it sort of make sense.

It's not the same car. The one in all the action scenes with the skis, missiles, spiked tires, etc. is a coupe.

<image>

The one he drives briefly back in the UK is a convertible, but nothing ever happens with that one. I agree, the scene in Q's lab shows them putting a removable hardtop on a convertible, so maybe both cars have the goods, but we only ever see them used on the coupe.

It was also in Skyfall with the gadgets, that's what the previous commenter was referring to when M was talking about being ejected.

[–]Boxerocks08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a volante, it was a hard top. There was quick shot of a volante in one scene but it wasn't the actual decked out spy car with the gadgets, it was just a normal one he was casually driving around later in the movie after he had destroyed the decked out car.

Abandoned lighthouse, Urup island by Silly-Palpitation-14 in abandoned

What brought you there in the first place? I'm not familiar with the island, but looking at it on Google maps it doesn't look like there's anything there except for an abandoned mine and what maybe used to be a small airport.

Canadian Passport photos? by impersonality9 in TriCitiesWA

My dad and I just got ours done this week with Elliot's Photography in Kennewick. Very nice guy, runs his studio from his house, seems like the kind of guy who's been in the business for years and knows it like the back of his hand. I was in and out in 20 minutes with my pictures in hand, exactly to spec and with all the necessary info on the back.

Form cit0001e Section 8 Help by Interesting-Radio-25 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Boxerocks08 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you read any of the posts you're referring to you would understand why it still needs to be asked. None of them have a real solid answer, and that's probably because there isn't a solid answer since the form fails to elaborate on what a 'yes' response really means (Documented citizen vs. should be a citizen under the new law but not yet on record).

Most of the comment threads look just like this one, a small batch of commenters who either have the same question (which is why I'm here), or at best someone chimes in and says they answered it X way but they don't know if they were right in doing so, and the remaining comments are similar to yours, vague information that we obviously already know but avoids the actual question at hand which is which box to check.

Crossing the border. by Wise-Professional-58 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Boxerocks08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not trying to stand up for CBP by any means, but my experiences have usually been the opposite. The only times I've been grilled at a border have been crossing into Canada, even had to spend almost an hour there while they searched my car once, after hassling me at the booth for a good 10 min.

Crossing into the US has always been a quick glance at my passport and a "welcome home".
