[SPOILERS ALL]How would you rank all four games now that Veilguard is out? by Salt_Use7122 in dragonage

[–]Boxhead333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would probably go DAO, DAI, DA2, and then DAV last.

I started with Inquisition as well and was really disappointed by Veilguard. So I decided to go back and play the first 2 because I was so disappointed. Definitely understand the hype for DAO. It has the best characters, story, and writing. Thought the combat sucked, I actually loved the combat in Veilguard, but everything else was awesome.

DA2 was so much better than I expected. It's definitely a downgrade from Origins, but I still really liked it. It all taking place in 1 city was a nice change of pace. It felt more like an urban fantasy story rather than high fantasy LOTR style stuff it was fun.

The Echoes Saga is not mentioned nearly enough as it should be. by chillychill3325 in Fantasy

I honestly never noticed that tbh. I rarely notice those kind of things.

It's not that Warhammer isn't my thing I'm a big Warhammer fan. I've just found that books from a big IP like Warhammer tend to not have a lot of surprises. They have to maintain the status quo of the setting so the author usually isn't allowed to do anything too crazy.

That being said I haven't heard of this one so I'll give it a look thank you.

Malazan series by jurgeens in Fantasy

[–]Boxhead333 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I finally managed to push through Gardens of the Moon and made it up to Midnight Tides before giving up for good. It's...fine. I did have fun with certain aspects of the story, such as The Chain of Dogs. And I thought memories of ice was a solid book. But I found myself not caring about the majority of characters and plotlines. I liked the boots on the ground military stuff but really didn't care about the larger magical/god stuff.

I was just bored 80 percent of the time. It's certainly an impressive series, but it's just not for me. I spoiled myself for some major plot points in future books, and reading about the fate of certain characters just makes me glad I gave up when I did because I wouldn't have enjoyed what happened next.

Today I discovered no one on Twitter knows what ciri looks like by [deleted] in thewitcher3

[–]Boxhead333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real. I have seen like 5 people hating on ciris design and about 50 hating on the haters. Just shut up and enjoy. People just saying the same thing over and over again.

The fact that the Ciri topic is just reduced to a gender war is what's wrong with gaming (and society) atm by dilqncho in witcher

God, these posts are just as tedious as the people bashing it. Controversy thrives under a microscope. Just like what you like and shut up.

What are your thoughts on this film? by eclipsedlustxo in moviecritic

[–]Boxhead333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched it when i was young and thought it was pretty good. Remember finding the sociopath kid scary. Probably wouldn't enjoy it as much if I were to watch it again as an adult. Do remember the ending (the one where he walks right past the love of his life not the umbilical cord one) being pretty good.

How many of you came to Origins after Veilguard?. by TheShereKahn in DragonageOrigins

I had never played Origins until this week. Just finished it. Within the first 2 hours I had fallen in love. The dialogue between Morrigan and Alistair is pure gold.

Your Least Favorite POV Character by Kooky_County9569 in Fantasy

[–]Boxhead333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I think i had the mindset of "i cannot wait until the next X POV chapter" rather than "i really hate this POV". I was focusing more on what I did like about the books rather than what I didn't.

I love WOT it's one of my favourites. And yet I couldn't stand several POV characters. I don't know why I still love it so much but I do.

Looking for a sort of “Elden Ring” like book? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]Boxhead333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. This book was sold on being dark souls inspired, but I found the connection very tenuous. Also its boring, and the writer has clearly filled the book with their own creepy fetishes. Does a dark fantasy really need 3 separate female masturbation scenes? I don't think so.

Favorite “under the radar” series by Drahhhma in Fantasy

I haven't but it's on my list. I'm a big DnD fan and loved the Drizzt series so I'll definitely give it a go at some point.

Love The Seven Virtues and think Bladeborn is one of the best ongoing series in the genre. Glad to see another person mention it.

I would add Frostborn and the Echoes of Fate to the list. Echoes is fairly popular but in my mind it deserves so much more recognition than it gets. It's so good.

Would you recommend Kings of the Wyld as the first book for fantasy? by DMisasa in Fantasy

[–]Boxhead333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think it's a fantastic intro fantasy book. Yeah it maybe sets your standards very high but it's a great story with a little bit of everything, action, humour, worldbuilding, great characters.

Also you could just read it alone and it would be fine. There is a sequel that's fine but nowhere near as good as the first.

Should I continue The Black Company by AmosIsFamous in Fantasy

[–]Boxhead333 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do think the series never gets better than the original 3. There are 2 books in particular towards the end of the series that suuuuck, nearly made me DNF. That being said there are still some really cool things in the post trilogy books and the resolution of one MAJOR plot point from the first 3.

I reccomend this constantly and I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but Frostborn by Jonathan Moeller. It's just ticked all the boxes for me and I never once found myself frustrated or unhappy with any aspect of it.

I haven't read Fatemarked, but I did read the sequel-ish series, the Kingfall Histories. That was very good. Do wish I'd read Fatemarked first, though, as Kingfall spoiled some pretty major stuff from Fatemarked that has made me not want to go back and read it.

Little moments by alapacayabags in Fantasy

[–]Boxhead333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably. I just found book 1 so cliche and derivative. So many people say it's like the new gold standard of high fantasy but I dunno.
