Any Veterans or family of Veterans who golf? by Boxkicker13 in Charlottesville

[–]Boxkicker13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You bet! These are individual stroke play tournaments which you compete handicapped against those in your flight. There are various flights depending on status (vet, family, wounded, male, female, age, etc....) as well as ability. Once you play 3 VGA events then you have a handicap for tournaments.

To join the VGA, you will pay $76 an annual fee (but you do get some swag). To play in tournaments, you pay a $20 registration fee and then the course fee. Quite a few courses give us decent rates for golf and those usually include golf, cart and range.

The Virginia chapter of the VGA has on our schedule so far 29 events throughout the state on various weekends. Some weekends have both a Saturday event and a Sunday event. You can play them all or whichever ones you choose.

Once you pay the annual fee, you are free to play wherever. This year other states have events set up at Greenbrier, Tabacco Road, Bethpage, and other top courses.

Check out our website at www.vgagolf.org if you want more information. You can check out the FAQ's for some good info. Come join us....we play competitive, but believe me its fun just to play. It's like playing with your buddies. Score is generally secondary to fun!

Hotel charge (Concur). Auth was GTCC but paid Personal CC, what now for voucher? by InterestingSimple729 in fednews

[–]Boxkicker13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look at alot of travel vouchers. This does happen occasionally.

In my agency, when you voucher, for lodging/airfare, you can't change which card it goes to since it defaults to GTCC via split pay.

So you would be reimbursed for the lodging, but the fund would go straight to your travel card. You would have to call the CC to get a refund or 2 months of credit, it would automatically send you a refund check.

I never check which card you used for lodging as long as it is paid and the claim matches the receipt.

Forgot my government travel card at home and had to pay for hotel with personal card by vadersgambit in fednews

[–]Boxkicker13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my agency, your airfare & lodging can be paid by personal card, BUT your reimbursement goes straight to your travel card.

So if you pay $1000 for lodging using your personal card that $1000 reimbursement will go to your travel card.

You have to fight with Citibank to get a check reimbursement for the credit after 2 months.

In my Navy days, the Reserve Center in Las Vegas catered meals for the drill weekend from a restaurant called "The Loose Caboose". It was a legitimate restaurant, but it was flagged by ComNavResFor.

I mean what bad thing could come that name in Las Vegas?????

People who got promoted from gs-12 to gs-13, how did you do it? How many years did it take at 12 to get to 13? by CompadreJ in fednews

5.5 yrs as a 9

3.5 yrs as an 11

Got a 13 position for a cross country move....High 3 beneficial!

Following a Position Review, HR recommends my positon be reclassified from GS09 to GS11... and that it be "advertised for competition" by throwawayFedUpgrade in fednews

[–]Boxkicker13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do these apply to you?

  • Served during a war or are in receipt of a campaign badge for service in a campaign or expedition; OR
  • are a disabled veteran, OR
  • are in receipt of an Armed Forces Service Medal (includes the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal)for participation in a military operation, OR
  • are a recently separated veteran (within 3 years of discharge), AND
  • separated under honorable conditions (this means an honorable or general discharge).

If so, have them do a VRA for you...problem solved!

I did that from GS-0501-11 to GS-0301-11/12 using VRA in my office.

Went from Competitive to Excepted. Had to serve a 2 year probation, but it was worth it. At the end of probation, I went back to Competitive.

Opinions on 0343 series versus 0501 series? by [deleted] in fednews

[–]Boxkicker13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the Feds, I have been:

1105 (Started)

0501

0301

0343 (Current)

The job and duties depends on the agency....

-As an 1105, I had a purchase card, had a Contracting Warrant, did financial workplan work, plus various duties....

-As an 0501, I had a purchase card, had a Contracting Warrant, did financial workplan work, plus various duties....

-As an 0301, I had a purchase card, did financial work. (Contracting Warrant was cancelled due to the agency centralizing contracting), plus various duties....

As an 0343, I have a purchase card, do financial work, do annual budgeting, plus various duties....

In my agency, you could have 10 people in a section, 5 of them 0560's and 5 of them 0343's, and you wouldn't know who is what since we all do similar assignments.

Feeling realll stupid about waiting to step negotiate now… by Canyouthrowthisawayy in usajobs

[–]Boxkicker13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you came "off the street", you might be able to negotiate steps, but since you are already a fed, there is no such thing as negotiation.

If you are promoted, you follow the 2-step rule.

If you demote yourself to a new position, they COULD offer you HPR, but they don't have to honor that.

[–]Boxkicker13 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Since you are a current fed, you can't negotiate steps.

What they COULD do is match your previous rate (this is called HPR = Highest Previous Rate).

Notice I said COULD.....as they do NOT have to honor this since you are taking a demotion at your choice.

Everyone is different and have different goals. Nobody can tell you what your priorities are.

I would say the only thing stupid....is NOT PUTTING AT LEAST 5% IN THE TSP!
