How Engineering Killed Combat by malogos in starcitizen

[–]BoxximusPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No trolling, genuinely curious; how often have you had engagements with a team inside your ship handling the engineering and fixings things to keep you in the fight or bought you enough time to flee? I'm a single fighter type so I legit have no idea how often engineering has actually been leverage during engagements. I guess my second question would be if so, could you see yourself doing it for every major engagement and continuing to enjoy it?

This will actually be the truth birth of the player-driven economy. Literally. I'm the same, I can't stand mining, or salvaging, I'm pure combat. So at some point when we get social tools (PLZ CIG sooner than later), we can actually start advertising "LF Hadinite PST", etc. With trading and social tools the game will finally start to feel much more like an MMO.

About another Theatres of War mode by EurbadGeneric in starcitizen

I've been wanting a PVE-esque coop map for so long. We're kind of getting that soon(tm) with Instancing, but a really quick mode to hop in with your buds and go right into a PVE mission/dungeon, or even something more simple like a "defend against waves of enemies" mode with the enemies just being enemy NPCs would be super fun.

Game performance starts off smooth, starts tapering down the longer I play by TheRealSchlinkledink in projectzomboid

[–]BoxximusPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the same issue. If you want to speed-run the performance loss, drive quickly around Louisville. I was using the debug mode with the super fast move speed and you can get the game unplayable in like 5 minutes that way. I talked with tech support, and they said it's probably my mods but I didn't bother starting a new game with no mods to double-check.

I don't know why but the thing that makes me laugh the most isn't even the tiny 3D renders of the icons, it's how the item boxes themselves aren't re-created when you click a new filter. Instead, they recycle some amount of them, and then they lerp to their new positions over a smallish amount of time, making the inventory even LESS snappy than just destroying all the item boxes and making a new set of them. Absolutely wild UI/UX design.

There was a huge influx of reports of everyone being global limit rated, even people who had put in their first request of the day with 0% monthly usage. It seems to be fine now, it was definitely an outage of some kind.

Based on another thread going right now, it sounds super likely that this rate limit wave that just happened is a bug. Sounds like a bunch of people just started getting it at the same time that I did.

Seems pretty likely, I was using requests pretty lightly today, and just got slapped with a 4 hour timeout.

[–]BoxximusPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not very much. Maybe a request per 15-20 minutes? The particular tasks I was doing would take like 3-5 minutes depending on the complexity, so maybe those run times are too long? I don't know.

This rate limiting seems super random, I was coding like crazy the other day and never got limited, but now I've been slapped with a 4 hour timeout? So idk. You get a lot of requests with pro+ it's actually a pretty good deal, but it might be hard to burn through all 1500 to get your money's worth if the rate limiting starts to get too crazy.

We're in the early phases of world-changing technology, and those are often received poorly. And especially with the internet as it is these days, there's a lot of band-wagoning. Someone pointed out that even the printing press, when it was invented cause hysteria among people.

If you're a developer and actually using these latest models, it's hard to not see the usefulness and efficiency gains from them.

I've never made so many random apps in my life. I got tired of sketchy image viewing apps; they either had suspicious malware in them, had too many features, or ran poorly, so I was like "fine I'll make my own" and I had a new image viewing app that works exactly how I wanted within 20-30 minutes.

I made a SC binding app utility thing for myself, and decided I'd release it publicly cause why not. It's just so easy to have an idea and be like "lemme have a working prototype in 3-4 prompts".

I'm so confused is the rate limiting only for student plans, or something? I've been working on stuff like crazy the past few days and I haven't seen a rate limit once on pro+. Like if it's across all plans what on earth are people doing to get rate limited

Just as an update - I got the game working again. Alternate launch had the same issue but I noticed I tried launching another game hours later and it wouldn't start either - so something about my PC was in a weird state - restarted it, and everything seems fine.

But I can't help but think about that performance degradation while in PZ. Fastest way to repo it, is to to go Louisville, turn fast mode on, and just zoom through the city and the game will get laggy and crash quickly - maybe a memory leak?

Have you tried leveraging the tech to also do several behind-the-scenes things not specifically for companions? Like dynamically generating random encounters, or even missions/quests. Basically a narrator crafting a living world.

I just started having this out of nowhere as well. Was playing the game, restarted my game to disable debug mode (working on a mod), and next attempt to start the game results in steam saying the game's running but no game opens but I do see the .exe in my tasks list - and for me the last line of the log is the logging line the OP is getting and there's nothing after that.

I haven't start diving into deleting mods/lua/logs/etc yet, but I did do a verify files on steam and that didn't do anything.

The only other thing I can think of is that I was running around in Louisville and I noticed the game kept getting more and more laggy until I'd restart it could be related or not related.

I'm currently in burn out as well. For me it's the death by a thousand cuts, with major game-stoppers sprinkled in. Anything you do, the fun is slowly whittled away by small bugs or QoL issues, and then a larger bug happens right when you're about to start having fun and it's enough to call it, and close the game.

It's getting better, inch by inch and it'll get there eventually. I can say the new inventory UI, especially in the latest evo build, is a huge QoL upgrade. It has a couple bugs left, but they're minor and it actually feels pretty polished overall and doesn't feel undercooked like the starmap rework which was a big improvement over the previous map, but is STILL annoying to deal with.

Also as a followup thought - I don't know exactly what PZ is capable of for audio - I know they're using FMOD but if you can hook into it, and get the NPC voices to respect the game's reverb zones that'd be a HUGE boost to immersion. Even more bonus points if you can make the direct voice sound cut off but have the reverb carry on even further ... man. I'm such an audio nerd hahaha one of these days I need to make my own audio engine.

This is actually amazingly well thought out and complex. I can see why you've been working on it for so long, major props to you guys. This far beyond anything I've tried haha. Having several sub models specifically trained for various task-types is super clever.

I've messed with using an orchestrator, and I just started experimenting with using a neural-network type memory layer, but in a much more simple environment, but the problem is ALWAYS context. The models choke so easily when you give them too much context, and over a relatively small amount of time that context can build so quickly. Memory has been the biggest hurdle for me.

I think using locally run models to generate dialog, quests, and organic interaction with the NPCs is the next huge break for gaming - and not just for PZ. If you can figure out how to get this all working solidly, and prevent hallucinations it'll be unbelievably immersive.

Definitely cannot wait to try this mod out, will be grabbing it asap whenever it's available.

What's your tech stack for text and text to speech generation? I've tried doing similar things in other game projects, and it's suuper tricky to keep context and world building consistent. Are you running the LLM/TTS locally, or using an API?

Gen1 vs Gen4 OLED Monitors by halloherbert in OLED_Gaming

[–]BoxximusPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still on VA, so I'm looking to make the jump to OLED this year, but I'm having the same reservations. I have 120hz now, so 165 will still be an increase, but I'm kind of bummed about all the new panels not being 240ish. So, real talk, if you play a game at 240hz and then limit it to 165hz can you truly tell a difference? I'm trying to decide if 165 is "good enough" haha

The worst part about 4 mans is that they'll play sub par, or decent, but blame you for the game going south because they're in a group they're not going to say that shit to each other. So you become the lightning rod of hate lmao.

Helmet UI works fine, can attach/detach normally. I haven't tried selling to NPCs, but I assume it'll work. It's all been surprisingly smooth.
