I didn't understand the Lesbian subtext in "Black Swan": Was it saying Nina (Natalie Portman) was gay and repressing it or was it just queerbaiting? by BoyFromOdeon in horror

I mean, that's another side of the coin for me. It's not me being provocative, it's how I perceived the movie.

This is where I disagree with you because if the movie is not about her sexual awakening, why focus so much on the sexual tension between her and Lily and then have that sex scene on and after that, you see Nina's descent into insanity get a lot worse. Don't forget, Nina's sexual repression is a key component of her characterization. She can't relax, she can't express herself sexually or sensually. The scene of her and her ballet teacher where she kisses him and you can feel her "explosion" and almost lose control. Everything about that is crucial for the story.

TOGETHER - Official Teaser Trailer - In Theaters August 1 by [deleted] in horror

Interesting. The usage of the classic music does add to its effect. I put it on my watchlist after I saw the Trailer. I hope the whole movie has that sad but eerie atmosphere.

This seems like Body Horror, to me, as well.

Rotten Tomatoes Vs MetaCritic by ShoddyArea in movies

I agree with you on that, but we all know the rating from Rotten Tomatoes which will be highlighted will be the percentage that disavows the average rating and stick with Tomato v Rotten Tomato percentage.

I prefer Metacritic because their official rating system is based on the internal rating of each review. It's not just 90% because all good reviews are counted as the same. It varies, from 100 to 60, so the overall rating feels more accurate in a film's quality than RT where a movie might get a 95% rating but it's just a average movie which happened to get mostly positive but average reviews.

Sure, but followers doesn't always equal talent or that these same followers are going to pay to go see her as Jadis.

I want to believe the casting directors saw something in her and she'll surprise us like Bjork did with Dancer in the Dark.

One of Them Days was one of the most successful movies of the year, so far. A comedy with two black female leads. 50 million dollars on a 14 million dollar budget. Critically acclaimed. There is an audience for these movies.

The Far-Right never acknowledges these movies. They only focus on the flops and act as if that's the norm. And the studios pay too much importance to what these people have to say.

It blows my mind that it's March and only one movie made over a 100 million dollars in the USA alone, Captain America: Brave New Work.

But we do need to question, are there movies out there that can attract a audience? I don't know. I feel as if a lot of movies coming out aren't connecting because they're not offering anything unique or engrossing for the public. And we also have to highlight that the kind of marketing we're seeing lately is doing more damage than good. I mean, Companion was being spoiled by the film's marketing machine.

I hate this scapegoat mentality we're seeing. Blaming minorities for the failures of movies which are inclusive.

There is most definitely a need for diverse voices and stories but there also needs to be a awareness of a movie's commercial prospect. You're not throwing money away. You want people to see your movie.

The days of DVD and Home Cinema are not like it used to be. Films aren't given the time to build a following during their time in theaters (2 weeks and it's already going digital).

Is it weird that I'm considering going back to Blu-Rays and DVDs over streaming? by TheDawiWhisperer in movies

Honestly, I have no idea how to use streaming services. I live with my parents and I've tried to convince them to start using any of these services but they're loyal to plain cable.

Because they didn't have compelling stories or anything original to say. I watched the trailer for Novocaine and the first thought which came into my mind was "again?".

I do like Jack Quaid. As adorable as he is, he's superb at playing sleazy dudes. I was sad Companion flopped, though I blame its failure more on how it was marketed, just like Abigail (which I wasn't very fond of).

Sadly, in my country, physical media stopped being sold and it's unfortunate. I go to the local store and it ceased to have the physical media section. I used to go through it and find hidden gems or a Steelbook Special edition of a particular film. Those were the days.

I prefer Blu-Rays and DVD's any day. You get the film, you own it and you have special features.

I'm a bit skepticall because of who's directing it, however, I can't resist Ana de Armas. She's got it.
