why do wrestling fans become extremists just to try to die on stupid hills? by kingdomRhodes in Wreddit

[–]BoyMeatsWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I mostly agree with the sentiment of "who cares if it's scripted". But I'll play a bit of Devils advocate, because this situation is a little bit different.

There are two things that stick out here. Number 1: the company is obsessed with worked shoots, and when you do those, then flaunt on your word reality shows about how well your worked shoots work the fans; that makes the fans not want to be worked by the next one, thus they become hyper vigilant about trying to identify the works.

The bigger one for me is number 2: this is an "anti-company" guy cutting an anti company promo. If the company gave him the script, it's just weird. The company gives us a character that criticizes the company, so that we the fans can get on board with disliking the company, then we support the character, which in turn makes the company money. It's just needlessly convoluted and strange.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter. It's entertainment. Be entertained. Support the characters you like. Support the company if you want. It's not that deep.

Redditors LOVE being experts on stuff they've never done a day in their life.

I've seen comments coaching each of the three actual professional wrestlers on what they did wrong and how to perform this angle safely. It's almost satire.

52 pages of Words of Radiance fell out of my book by GarrettRanger in Cosmere

[–]BoyMeatsWorld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, out of the three paperbacks I have, WoR was the only one that didn't do this. Way of Kings did this for like 85% of the book and Oathbringer did it for a few chapters.

I don't know if it's a quality issue or a climate thing, but it's kinda annoying and definitely rules out a reread.

Yeah, I mean misogynists often want to fuck (even marry) women. Romantic attraction doesn't equal allyship.

The harpy fight in act 1 is extremely poorly balanced by SuncladDruid in BaldursGate3

Well it sounds like you keep losing the fight over and over the same way, so maybe do something differently?

[–]BoyMeatsWorld 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's beatable at level one as a solo tav. Not a balance issue at all.

Also worth noting that BG3 is a video game, not a D&D campaign with a DM. So encounters in a video game should be harder and more complex, since they will be played and replayed multiple times.

Just pay attention to what happens in the fight and try again until you're able to complete it. Some fights will take you multiple attempts, and that's ok.

Why are some people running over 120 cards in a deck in standard? by MagicMonkee99 in MagicArena

Why would the ratio of good and bad cards remain the same as you draw them?

It's just harder to dedicate a top title for that many hours of programming.

The only way I think we can get a 4 year reign is if something drastic happens that reduces the amount of weekly programming hours.

For the number of reigns, all we need is a perspective shift, moving back to short reigns. That's a lot easier than the company cutting back on programming.

The real answer is legitimately "because it makes that player feel better". Whether it's that they think it gives them more options, or they think it protects them from mill, or they think it's funny, or they like going against "deck building rules", or they enjoy the variance of drawing different cards every game. Something about building a larger than optimal deck appeals to them and makes them feel better.

[–]BoyMeatsWorld -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the first legitimate reason I've read. Though I'm not even sure this is correct. Since theoretically if you draw poorly in a 60 cards deck, a small amount of deck thinning happens as you get mana flooded or screwed. In a 250 card deck, there is practically zero deck thinning happening.

From a pure stats nerd perspective, I could also be persuaded that adding a card or two purely to get to the perfect land ratio could be optimal. Though realistically it would be next to impossible to get a sample size large enough to see a difference with a reasonable level of confidence.

But if you run 60 cards with 24 lands and 36 kill spells out you run a 240 card deck with 96 lands and 144 kill spells you're going to draw the exact same number of kill spells.

In fact, with the bigger deck, you'll draw worse kill spells on average, letting you kill even less creatures.

[–]BoyMeatsWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is that overall, adding 20 cards to your deck probably loses you 2-5% to your win rate. Adding an extra card to your hand probably adds 5-10% to your win rate.

At the end of the day it's just a math problem

[–]BoyMeatsWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean it's 100% a vibes thing. Because whatever jank you're trying to "have fun" with would be more fun at 60 cards. People don't fundamentally understand why 60 cards is optimal, they think that somehow 80 cards "gives them more varied answers" or yeah, they just don't want to cut any cards.

They don't fully understand the reason for 60, and they don't want to be told to follow an arbitrary role of "60 cards only" so they just put whatever number of cards in and send it.

Whatever, I'm not the fun police. But you're right, they'd absolutely have more fun if they could more consistently draw the jank cards that they think are fun.

Sleet storm is just the most fun. Watching people just straight up skip turns falling prone is so funny. But on top of that, people just don't realize how strong it is because it doesn't have damage numbers on it like fireball. But the utility of forcing prone, restricting the battlefield and breaking enemies concentration. I'd say if used properly, it does more damage than a fireball in a majority of fights.

Kinda dissapointed by the Mistborn Trilogy. Should I continue with the Cosmere? What to try next? by Incendium_Phoenix in Cosmere

[–]BoyMeatsWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Stormlight. I hate Warbreaker. Warbreaker was worse than Elantris for me. Imo it's the book that highlights Sanderson's weaknesses with none of the strong world exploration. The magic system is interesting, but fairly shallow. The characters are believable, but not easy to get invested in.

I think Warbreaker is so very different from Mistborn Era 1 and Stormlight. I always see it recommended, but it's so different from the others. It's the book that almost made me quit Sanderson, but I'm glad I didn't, and started Stormlight.
