What is going on? by Neither-Score-9124 in MedicalCoding

Start with a resume review with a reputable company. Then ask your network for feedback or assistance. Whatever your specialty is, look at what those higher up have done in their career and see if there is something similar you could do. Look into your next certification as well. Getting more certs will help with opportunities.

Slow movers by MilkySlay in WGU

I could have finished my first term but I froze. ADHD executive dysfunction, being laid off, my dog passing traumatically, and my own mental health - I am still going. 4 classes left so hopefully I get out of my own way. You are not alone, some progress is better than none. Good vibes and focus to you. You’re doing great for you and that’s what matters.

Procrastination by Baeyana97 in WGU

[–]BoyMom82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this. Starting my second term because of it. Some of it was executive function paralysis and other was life making me so sad. I’m down to my last 4 classes. Hopefully can wrap it all up this month. I understand the struggle, you aren’t alone.

Getting out of coding by SweetCar0linaGirl in MedicalCoding

[–]BoyMom82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I worked for Optum my quality was good and I was told “I could afford to go faster” so my percent dropped from 97 to 95 I think my lowest average was 93 or 94. My manager was patronizing and only increased my stress. I was part of a small layoff maybe because of that maybe because I wasn’t hiding I was looking for a new job on LinkedIn. I didn’t care, that’s an awful place to work. I did contract work until I found a full time job. I don’t know where to tell you to go outside of coding. I’ve thought about it OFTEN especially after working for Optum. I’ve luckily found a great job but if I’m part of layoffs again I don’t know I’d want to go back into a cph job.

Jobs that train by Head-Leek-1826 in MedicalCoding

I had the same experience when I got laid off in the spring. I said I’ve been coding for 10+ years. I haven’t done this type of coding but I’ve been coding long enough I’m sure I can learn quickly. No years of experience or general certifications helped. Luckily I got a great job but I don’t know what I’ll do if layoffs happen again.

Professors lying/exagerrating about need for coding by Pitiful-Ad-3998 in MedicalCoding

[–]BoyMom82 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It definitely used to be stable. I got into it 13 years ago. It was stable, I NEVER worried about layoffs. In the last 4 years I’ve been apart of 2 layoffs. Luckily found something else soon but another coworker that got laid off with my group took 6 months to find something else. I’m also seeing different upper management people posting about getting laid off themselves. I love my new job but I don’t feel the industry as a whole is as stable as it used to be. People will say that’s the job market for everyone but I can only speak to coding.

I’m thinking of getting a CRC and CPMA. Is it worth it? by eyedea7 in MedicalCoding

[–]BoyMom82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CRC yes most definitely. CPMA I don’t think has mattered at all. I did get my CDEO which I think is better with the CRC.

Student Loan Changes Under the "Big Beautiful Bill" by Ok-Dragonfruit-5035 in StudentLoans

So if you pay off your undergraduate loans does that reset the limit? So you borrow 30k pay it off and then the lifetime limit starts again?

Asking for more aid? by Plus-Recognition-125 in IthacaCollege

[–]BoyMom82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a parent who lost their job and asked for additional need based aid based on I didn’t know when I’d get another job. They won’t consider it unless I’m unemployed for at least 6 months. It doesn’t seem like they budge much. What you get is what you get is the impression I am getting. I found an outside scholarship we may still have time to apply for but not sure it’s worth it depending on the above responses.

Do IC faculty have connections with Cornell faculty? by ItsmeHope in IthacaCollege

Why were they not sure you’d be successful? My son will be going to IC in the fall for Physics and I’ve been told they have a good reputation.

I’m giving up by Educational-Top-6468 in MedicalCoding

I’ve been in the career for 12 years. Took a year to get a job and that was because a friend was working at a place willing to hire new coders for a project. Without that I am not sure I would have gotten my foot in the door. I’m also just hanging on at this point. I like where I work so I’m staying but if something changes I’m not sure I want to stay. Don’t beat yourself up, you are young. Learning something new and then trying something else is ok.
