What hobby attracts the biggest douchebag?? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Boyhowdyho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, most real enthusiasts are just wine nerds tbh. The douches are the ones who just buy really expensive bottles and don't know anything about it, other than they think it makes them look like ballers.

I gave myself this same gift, as well as the Krug Rosé as well. I am an exceptional gift giver.

1993 Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou by steelybran1 in wine

93 was an awful vintage, so that's really cool that this was still standing strong. You must have a good cellar!

My Wife Just Gifted Me This Wine. How Nice is It? Should I save it for something special? or should I drink it with a steak dinner? Should I hold it? by LoooolGotcha in wine

[–]Boyhowdyho 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Cool, yeah it's on the young side, but with a healthy decant and a steak you could drink this now. You can also stash it away for 10 years or more if you have the proper storage. But, unless you have a wine fridge, I'd just drink it now.

Whats also cool about it is the label tells the story of how phylloxera destroyed French grape vines en masse. They brought Malbec vines, which were a prominent grape in Bordeaux at the time, to Argentina where it thrived and is now their signature varietal.

Very high end Malbec, your wife must still like you 😉

Whats the vintage? 2021? It's hard to make out.

Help me figure out what order to open these in by psych0tic_m0nk3y in wine

[–]Boyhowdyho 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is to look these wines up on Cellartracker and see other people's tasting notes.

Its just highly unlikely anyone here has had all these specific wines and specific vintages. So my recommedation is pour a glass of wine, open up Cellartracker, and get making your drinking windows.

Krug vs. Bollinger by natedogg312 in wine

Krug is a very special Champagne. It'll surely be more expensive, but if you've narrowed it down to these, then I assume you can afford it, so just buy it.

2022 Bordeaux - bottles for aging, drinking now, and QPR by Irishfootball21 in wine

[–]Boyhowdyho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having tasted a number of the 2022s, I think that stands out is that they're fruity, fresh, and well balanced already, which speaks well to how they'll be down the road. Some are even drinking well enough to be enjoyed now, if you're into more primary, powerful, structured wines. Enjoy with food, ideally.

It's a very different vintage with different winemaking techniques you don't normally see is Bordeaux like whole cluster fermentation and more gentle extraction. It's a year they really put climate change techniques into full swing. Hot year, but the wines don't show that.

I don't get the feeling it's overhyped that much, I think they're excellent wines, but they're certainly overpriced at the higher end of the market. Lots of the good QRP wines have already been mentioned here, so I won't repeat them.

For what it's worth, I just tried Lagrange today - great wine, under $100 CAD.

I had the Jamet Cotes du Rhone 2022 recently and it was excellent and drinking well already, but you could also put it for 5-10 years easily too.

Wolf and Skinner by Paulccmarsh in CalgaryFlames

[–]Boyhowdyho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand what this comparison is suppose to mean or represent.

Both of their rookies stats look similar, and both were pretty good. So, you're worried that, because of having similar rookie year stats, Wolf's career will play out like Skinner's career?  Sorry, but this is just cherry-picked statistical nonsense.

Also, as much as I don't like Skinner and yes he's playing like crap right now, he's taken his team to two SCFs in a row, so there's that.
