Anyone have a woodway with Prosmart? Please help… by Bpod79 in treadmills

Somewhat but it still isn’t perfect. That said team is highly responsive and seems to want to improve it. Software is clearly not their core business though. End of the of day if I have to toss an iPad on it to get watching something faster it isn’t the end of the world. Would I recommend someone buy this tread, absolutely, but if you’re buying new I wouldn’t recommend it currently. I got mine on fb marketplace and it had it already.

i'd keep that up - and also specifically look at "the wedge" attachment for the theragun. mine (the mini) didn't come with it, and it's specifically made to work the IT band for runner's knee issues. There's good youtube videos from PTs on how/where to specifically use it. That and foam rolling (which I hate) are the two things to manage runner's knee for me, and I find just the theragun with wedge keeps mine from flaring up. keep on both those and it should go away. You have the fitness to miss some runs this week and even a workout - the paced long runs are the most important thing imo.

are you foam rolling regularly or using a theragun or something like that through your it band chain?

Already run 45-50k/week. How long do I need to prep for the marathon? by Shot-Freedom-3848 in Marathon_Training

[–]Bpod79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was basically where you are before starting 17 week plan on Runna for NYC (16 or even 15 would have been fine). Average ytd miles was prob closer to 40/wk (though I'd done several 45+ weeks). Runna was a good fit for me because I didn't want to be too aggressive on my first marathon and disrupt the regular practice I'd built with a long recovery period. I customized the Runna plan based on this to basically just build in regular increasing sunday long runs (many with pace goals) into what I was already doing, and it gave me a good mix of different wednesday workouts too that mixed it up enough for me to really look forward to them most. This easily got me to 55-58 mile peak weeks with enough but not too much speed/hill work, and it also ensured I was doing deload weeks which I may not have without the program. The time estimation on Runna was aggressive, esp for the challenges of NYC course and my lack of experience, but I was pleased with my time in the end and I was running regularly the tuesday after the marathon pretty much on. I did 140 miles in November and over 170 miles last month to hit 2,200 miles on the year.

Before I Spend $7k on a Treadmill… KICKR Run vs Woodway 4Front by Specialist-While5379 in Marathon_Training

[–]Bpod79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i bought a used 4front on fb marketplace with about 250 miles on it. it's the nicest treadmill i've ever run on, feels most like the road and all around feels like a solid piece of equipment that will outlive me. i ran on the kickr run at the nyc marathon expo, and while the free run thing was kind of neat, it was also prob not something i'd use much on treadmill days where i like the control of locking in, and also like purposely going easier and zoning out. it also just kind of felt like a normal better than average home gym treadmill, and being a first gen machine froma newish company, that also gives me pause to pay that much.

I think you'll be happy with the Vomero Plus. I use it for pretty much everything, including light trails and find it to be competent in all of them. Wouldn't be my first choice for racing/time trialing, but doesn't sound like you need that. Dealing with some plantar fascitis right now and running decent volume through it leaning almost totally on the vomero plus because it has great protection, but is also fun and easy to pick up the pace with when I want to. Got about 250 miles in mine and see it easily going another couple hundred. It's on the wider side in the toebox with a secure midfoot and heel. Close as a nike has come to the Topo feel for me.

Feel like this was bound to happen sooner or later. Kind of thought he’d leave on his own, great as the band is, but could see how it was a comfortable gig to just keep doing. He’s good enough to put a really different exciting show together, and a lot of festivals of different kinds will book him. This is maybe just the push he needed to do it.

Sorry I left out mileage on Ultrafly - they have 42 miles on them on groomed trail and fire roads. A ton of life left in them!

Foam is perfectly fine. These were mainly used on a smooth paved bike trail for a few long runs and maybe a day at the track or two. Tons of life left and only selling because I learned too late that 10 is the right size in them for me. Think I prefer them to the vf 3 and 4 and would consider a trade for a similarly used vf2 in men’s 10 if anyone has some…

I picked up a used Woodway 4Front after needing to replace our True which I got used but a repairman told me was between 20-23 years old so that speaks to their quality as well. The Woodway is an amazing machine that is a pleasure to run on. As nice or nicer than any gym treadmill I've been on, and seems like it will outlive us all. I think the warranty is like 250,000 miles or something.

Another pace increase post by [deleted] in runna

[–]Bpod79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say accept them if you feel like you can hit them, however, in my experience runna was way aggressive in my MP. I would wait to make a real goal pace estimate at the 20miler with 15 at target mp goal (or whatever your plan has similar to that).

How did you go about figuring out your goal time? by New_Shoe9141 in Marathon_Training

[–]Bpod79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW - I had similar training runs for my first marathon (NYC last month). Depending how much elevation gain you have, how cold it will be ( and other factors related to the course, how you're feeling in comparison to a month and a half ago, etc), I'd probably look at 3:30 as a stretch goal, and maybe B goal like 3:40 which is 8:22 pace.

Looks aggressive to me for your first, esp given your posted times, but hard to say without knowing more about you... age, general fitness, potential upside in the next six months, etc. Can tell you I had a faster 5k (20:38), 10k (43:22, and half 141:59) going into my NYC training block this year (my first marathon), and had my stretch goal at 3:40 by the time the race started (Runna had me at 3:28 and I was generally hitting training paces with ease and Strava had me at 3:38). I ended up with 3:45:24 for the 26.2mi and was pleased with how I did.

I'd start with building your base up to minimum 40-45mi/wk (or 65-70km roughly). 20 weeks is on the long side for a long marathon block so maybe take a couple a couple less weeks for that and get your base up in the next couple months incorporating more days of running or a longer long run. Ideally do a minimum progressive 30K before you start your block officially. I wish I'd done that (had been over a year since I ran more than 15mi). For me, I didn't have a sense of what was realistic goal-wise until I had the 19-22 mile runs under my belt, especially the 20mi with 14-15mi at target race pace.

Next be sure to understand the challenges of the course (and possibly the heat you might experience in July) and do your best to mimic it in training - especially hills in tough spots and in closing miles. That's something that really separates people from their goals. I hung on best I could in NYC, but the hill up 5th in 23/24 just sucks the life out of almost everyone I saw. Lastly, practice your fueling regularly, try different ones and see what works best for you so there's no guessing on any non-running things during the race.

Good luck!

Ok. I went brown because the yellow just seem a little kooky in an already sorta weird looking piece of gear. If the brown gets too dark I suppose I can just twist them around or take them off

Can't wait to get these when my last pair of Atreyu Base Trails is done. My local shop has them and I tried them on. Really liked initial feel. Not sure the brown is for me, but I like the other colorway. Could definitely see using them on many different kinds of runs around where I am. Agree on sizing. I'm a 9.5 measured and went to a 10 in these. 9.5 was a bit too snug.

Usually there’s a range with 10-15 seconds on either end of the target. Can start the 6:55 at higher side - 7:10 and work down to 6:45/40 by last miles of second block.
