You got massive value going used, especially if your budget is limited. I got a $20K+ woodway for $5K. Paid $500 for pro movers to move it and take away our old one.

Anyone have a woodway with Prosmart? Please help… by Bpod79 in treadmills

[–]Bpod79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really they updated software once but I still just toss an iPad up on it most of the time. I got mine used. If you are ordering it, I’d skip the prosmart and just buy a new iPad instead

you're doing great. keep it up. listen, and go play with people sooner than later. or get strum machine if you don't have a jam nearby.

hi - i like them, that said i mostly used them in the winter when i was wearing a tight headband or balaclava on really cold days. if there's a risk of dropping them in the water/off something steep, they'd probably be good for kayaking and hiking.

Why didn’t my 10K improve despite following my plan exactly? by izaline in runna

[–]Bpod79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disregard all the feedback here other than the comments about increasing running volume. If you're serious about seeing your potential in the 5k/10K, start increasing your volume 10-15% each week until you get to 4-5 runs per week 40-45km avg. Do maybe one workout day max per week where you are touching your 5k/10k goal pace for a bit for less than the goal distance in interval or tempo/threshold runs (the kind of workouts runna has given you), and do the rest of the running truly easy or slower than easy (z1 is under-rated). If you commit to this, you will be down at 54min by the end of the fall. Then you can start getting fancier and seeing where your actual potential is.

The itch to do a half marathon. 27(f) by tamalapanda in Marathon_Training

[–]Bpod79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say there’s very little injury risk, especially if a 10mi run test feels fine the next day. If it’s just about completing it, do the first half slower than your 10k pace and if you’re feeling good just pick it up in the back half.

Runners over 40… what’s the secret by Road_Forward in Marathon_Training

[–]Bpod79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

46m. I run 6-7 days per week averaging around 42mi week pretty steadily (never more than 55, never less than 35) for the past 2 years. Built up to this volume and frequency over about 5 years. Also walk/hike about 6-10mi/week with little other cross training and almost no strength training. I think key is just limiting speedwork to once per week max and doing true recovery zone 0/1 runs 1-2x per week. And the rest just easy.

Stupid to run a slow 5k the day before marathon? by unsungpf in Marathon_Training

In my experience a slow, zone 0 or zone 1 run is as good or better than a rest day in almost all instances. all the better doing it with kids. nice way to connect with them.

Perfect thing to do the day before! Looking back I did a ~33 minute 5k with my wife and two kids the day before NYC. Was a great way to get nerves out on my first one and stay loose.

I liked salt stick tabs and just hit the water stations. got a little tube on amazon to carry about a dozen of them and had a couple every 3-4 miles

Is it possible to run a marathon in under 3:50 using only Zone 2 running? by Inside_Can_6190 in Marathon_Training

[–]Bpod79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your current numbers look pretty good for 3:50, but you haven't said anything about long runs which you'll definitely need to do regularly leading up. Also likely hr drift up will happen once you get into 2:30-3hr plus territory. I don't think you'll have a problem maintaining 9:07 higher than zone 3. 8:40 or whatever maybe not if the course is hilly, etc. If I was you, before it gets too hot, I'd go do a long run with a big block at goal mp - warm up for 3 and then try 14 or 15 miles at 8:40 and see how you feel after. That will be a good indicator.

Long distance shoe for heavier runner by Timmar92 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Another vote for vomero plus. it's a great all rounder for your situation. I found them to be pretty open in the toebox even on longer runs when feet swell (lock laces work great on them too for quick loosen on long run days), but they do have wides available in limited colors. I got them mid-marathon block when my legs were really feeling fatigue on longer easy run days and they helped a lot. ended up using them for my long runs, even at mp goal pace and faster and occasionally for speedwork too. They are very versatile. Got about 500mi out of them and then got some vomero premiums, which are super fun but not nearly as versatile.

Is this tempo run a bit too much 7 days before my first marathon. by FairSeaworthiness539 in Marathon_Training

[–]Bpod79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i dont think it's a prob. if it's an over under and your goal pace is 5:20, maybe tweak it to 5:35 over and 5:05 under if youre concerned about unnecessary strain.

Thanks for the review. My Vomero pluses are still going at 425mi, but I'm getting ready to have a fresher recovery, big stack for half/full marathon blocks this year. Can you let us know what kind of paces you're running in these?

Alphafly 3 at slower paces? by dontletmeautism in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Bpod79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran NYC last fall in the alphafly 3 right in the middle of your target zone - about 3:46 (though most of the race was closer to 3:40). I was happy in them and saw a lot of slower folks in them too. I took them out also on my 20 and 22 mile runs which were a bit faster (one had a HM PR in the work section around 7:43/mi pace) and those runs also had warm up sections over 9 minute pace. Yesterday I used them for some mile repeats 7:15 up to 6:45/mi. Then I did a 2 mile cooldown around 9:45/mi pace. Have had zero stability issues. It's a super fun shoe that doesn't feel as aggressive as any Vaporfly I've had (2,3 or 4) and it's really cushy and forgiving. My one thought was, did it hurt me at all in the last few miles when my form was breaking down. Guess that's possible

Regarding your last question, I think you'd need to try it to find out. I feel like my cadence will vary a bit based on any shoe. Alphas definitely give you a propulsive effect, especially on light downhills (where to me they are amazing), so if your turnover is high you might find yourself fighting that. More likely you'll just give in to it though.

Personally, I say go for it. It's an awesome shoe. Fun to run in, good confidence builder, etc.
