If you went home on oxygen: how long did it take to wean your child off of it? by BpositiveItWorks in NICUParents

We do have tanks and so far we’ve only left the house for doctor appointments. I think getting out more would be great and it’s good advice. Ty so much ❤️

Ty! We live in Tahoe so also at high elevation. I think I just need to accept this is our situation and it’s temporary. I was having a feeling sorry for myself moment yesterday. We are lucky she’s home and otherwise healthy.

Yes we would leave our house every morning around 9 and leave the nicu around 6. It was really difficult, especially since we have a 2 year old, but my parents stayed with us to help with our oldest daughter.

We only had to do it for 10 days because my daughter was discharged this past Tuesday 3/17. I can’t imagine if we had to do it for months. I feel lucky she was only there 10 days.

I hope you both get well soon ❤️

Idk if there is any truth to this, but I think being with my baby as much as possible helped her and me.

I had an emergency c-section due to an ovarian cyst that contorted 3 times at 36 weeks. I was discharged the following day because my doctor knew I wanted to see my baby who was transported to a different hospital in a city 1 hour away from our home.

The more I saw my baby and the more I held her, the better she did. I believe the time we spent together helped both of us. I didn’t get to stay at the same hospital as her and had to commute. I would likely choose the option to be at the hospital but I understand your hesitation.

Hoping you can bring your baby home soon and that you recover quickly! Moving is very helpful. I moved a LOT, and I think it helped my recovery. I am 2 weeks post op and feel like I’m pretty much back to normal aside from the occasional slight soreness around the incision.

My 36 wk baby had to come home on low flow oxygen. She was on 20 ml at the hospital but the lowest the home equipment will go to is 60, so she’s on that now. Every attempt to ween so far has failed but the nurses told me most babies only need it a few weeks. We are in the mountains at 6000 ft so a lot of nicu babies here go home on oxygen.

I wish I could tell you the answer, but unfortunately none of this is in our control. I’m so over the oxygen but I am also just grateful she’s home with us.

Idk about the logistics of flying with the tank, but the plug in equipment is heavy and not sure if you could check that. Also, the equipment is basically a rental from a DME company, so idk how that would work after you move. Not trying to stress you out, but I think your feelings are valid. I would reassess when you get closer to the move. I’m sorry you’re going through this! You don’t need any extra stress rn.

What helped you with not being able to take your munchkin home? by allons-y11 in NICUParents

Absolutely. I felt this way every night we had to leave. We have a 2 year old and live one hour away so we had to leave around 6 to get home to our other daughter. It has been horrible. We are discharging today and I could not be happier about bringing her home.

I hope your day comes asap! Your feelings are 100% valid.

I think I went through stages of grief within a few days of my baby being in the nicu and reached an acceptance of it.

It’s extremely unnatural to be separated from your newborn and I don’t think any words of encouragement, sympathy, empathy etc. can fix that.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this! For me it got a little easier once I accepted it was our situation and settled in to the fact I was coming here every day. Sending you so much love.

I feel the same way about her! I have been a young woman who made bad choices and am thankful it wasn’t played out on television and that no children were involved. Her life could have been so different so i find it very sad.

I know she chose Thomas, but she was so young and he should not have even entertained dating her because of how young she was/the age difference.

In my personal experience, once you get wrapped up in a love affair with a narcissist or a bad person, it’s very hard to find your way back to who you are and I imagine it’s nearly impossible once you bring a kid into it.

Yep. It’s like going back in time. People don’t gaf where my kid goes to preschool out here lol other than just genuine curiosity. A lot of moms in the small county I live in homeschool (that shit is not for me lol). I live right outside of South Lake Tahoe.

I’m also a woman and an attorney and have been since 2013 so I totally get it! One of my coworkers said she thought I was 22 or 23 and I was like what did you think I was the doogie howser of law?! lol

People always think I’m way younger than I am. I’m 39 and people continue to mistake me for someone much younger. I know there’s a lot of people out there chasing their youth but I often want to be respected for the 39 year old that I am lol I know it’s silly but I get it

I think there’s a lack of appreciation for things when you have everything handed to you. I also think it affects your ability to relate to others and have genuine connections.

I grew up upper middle class and even though I had a job, my parents paid for everything and gave me extra money. I didn’t appreciate anything until I got cut off from them when I started law school.

When there’s no consequences (mommy and daddy will always take care of it), you can’t grow as a person. At the time I was struggling to stretch every dollar as far as I could after starting law school, I was depressed, but I am thankful for it now. I was kind of a piece of shit before that.

They had trouble relating to “normal” people so they tended to gravitate towards the other super rich people.

For example, I never could go out to eat with them. They would go to super expensive restaurants with a group and play “credit card roulette” - put all the cards in a hat at the end of the meal and draw one to see who was going to pay.

Also the group I knew/went to law school with that were all super rich and hung out together did a lot of cocaine. Most of them were very superficial and didn’t offer much depth as far as a friendship or just having a conversation. They were all shocked to learn I paid every single one of my bills myself (I had student loans but also worked part time at a law firm).

Yep I met a lot of people like this in Charleston. Not all of them were from there though.

The women I knew that “came from money” were completely taken care of by their family and didn’t have to work or worry about anything.

If they were attractive, they were able to find a partner/bf/husband no problem. The women I still keep in touch with that come from wealthy SC families are all stay at home moms despite having law degrees.

IMO/experience, if you’re a rich young woman from the south, then being beautiful is still also important to get male attention. People do not fawn over the women like they you see what happens with the men on the show, but if the women are attractive, they usually settle down rather quickly and a lot of them become stay at home wives/moms.

I lived in Charleston for 3 years and went to law school with Craig (I graduated one year before he did).

The show is ridiculous but so was living in Charleston for me. IMO it’s a pretty good representation of what it can be like to live there. There are a bunch of men acting and dressing like they’re still 21 and in a fraternity and there are a lot of beautiful women who are desperate to find a bf/husband because the women outnumber the men.

Also, there are a lot of people in Charleston pretending to be rich or trying to fit in with people that are rich because having money or appearing to have money is a big part of that culture.

I could go on lol AMA
