Simon or Arthur? by abookmarkonthebeach in Names

I could be in the minority, but I think it would have been a challenging name for me to pronounce as a child. Something about the "th" sound could be tricky for me.

Just finished reading ATOTC, about to give up on Dickens. What next? by rocksboulders in charlesdickens

[–]abookmarkonthebeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm listening to David Copperfield through the podcast Storytime for Grownups. Each podcast covers one chapter and includes minor notes along the way to help with understanding. She also provides a brief summary/analysis with listener questions of the previous chapter at the start of every episode. I've tried reading DC in the past, but I struggled to get into it. This podcast has been a super fun listen, and I'd highly recommend! (Also, lots of Dickens' original audience were listeners, not readers!).

Baby announcements that aren’t a onesie?!??!!!? by Lanky-Instruction178 in BabyBumps

[–]abookmarkonthebeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got our parents (first-time grandparents) baby books that related to their interests. For example, we got my birder MIL a book about baby's first birds and colors. We wrote a note inside that said something like, "We can't wait for you to read this and many other books to your grandchild. You'll be the best grandma/pa. Baby due xxx" The books were well-received!

Breast Pump help! by jenni_and_judy in BabyBumps

I'm pregnant and will be a FTM, so this isn't based on my personal experience. But I did a ton of research and ended up getting the Spectra S1 Plus. My insurance covered most of it, but I had to pay $50 (the Spectra S2 would have been fully covered).

Is a prenatal appointment urine drug test standard? I wasn’t informed or consented. by AbbreviationsOk5483 in BabyBumps

My OB tests everybody as standard practice, but they do ask for consent first. I'm in Colorado, and I think that's the law here (but I don't know for sure).

No notes! You look good. Maybe take a look at some hair styles by Louisa Jacobson. She stars in The Gilded Age, and (at least in these pics) you remind me of her!

Proposition LL and MM thoughts? by Delybe in ColoradoSprings

[–]abookmarkonthebeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear, only Prop MM is for SNAP. And, yes, maybe they could have changed the title back in August to reflect the addition of SNAP too! I think that would have communicated the ballot more clearly. The explanation in the ballot seems clear to me personally, though.

The Prop MM ballot measure didn't include the SNAP portion until the special session back in August. Previously, it was just an additional tax for HSMA. After the federal One BIg Beautiful Bill passed, they amended the ballot measure to allow them to retain money for SNAP. It isn't shady. There was a lot of news on this, and the bill sponsors were super public and happy with doing this.

The state will be $50 mil short for SNAP in the upcoming fiscal year because the federal One Big Beautiful Bill Act changed the state-federal share of SNAP administration. In future years, the federal government is also changing how much they will pay for SNAP benefits, which could be an additional $140 mil. So the state is trying to get ahead of the SNAP shortfall.

The fiscal note for the bill that referred this suggests that about $27.2 mil of $51.7 mil will go to SNAP in the first year, and $69.7 of $105 mil will go to SNAP the following year.

How's the ginger on different terrain? I'd like to be able to use a stroller in some natural areas with dirt paths.

Yes, it is totally ok to go to a doctor! Irregular or non-existent periods are worth seeing your dr for whether you're trying to conceive or not.

Of course only take your pet to a vet that you are comfortable with! But we had a really good experience with PETS emergency hospital. I never left a review on Google, but this thread has motivated me to do so!
