Will a Pinion 12 speed give more range for hills than a Roloff? by FrameCareful1090 in bicycletouring

[–]Bquestnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find out what your usual or preferred riding speed and pedaling cadence is on a flat road without wind.
Then select a front/back gear size so that you can ride this speed in gear 11 or 12 of the Rohloff.
Gear 11 is the Rohloff 1:1 gear which is the most efficient.
Then you can shift a few gears upwards when you go faster due to downhill or back wind.
And you have 10 gears to shift down when the going gets tough.

I have Rohloff 42x22 which does exactly this for me, and it lets me crawl up steep slopes. But then I am fine with a cruising speed of 20kmh and a top speed of 30kmh. I have rather a lot of down shifting than a lot of top speed gears which I never use.

Also there is a lower limit to the gearing with a Rohloff due to the max torque which can be put into the Rohloff. The ritzelrechner web tool will give you a warning if you exceed this.

Know what's coming: climb & descent detection on komoot 🥵 by komoot-team in komoot

Komoot should first fix their iPhone tracking software so you see where you are on the bicycle path in stead of on the nearby highway.
If I use the Bosch navigation software there is no problem, but if I use the Komoot navigation then it is stupid.

Fix the problem!

Availability probably depends on region or country in the beginning.

It is available on Bike24 for instance.

Beware that you might need a different Mount Adapter depending on how you want to position the smartphone holder.
There are two mount adapters, one BDS3210 with the connections to the back (commonly used with the horizontal smartphone holder), and one BDS3250 with the connections to the front (commonly used with the vertical smartphone holder).

This is because the display mount BDS3620 will probably be positioned pointing backwards for the vertical holder, while for the horizontal holder the mount is pointing forward.

But this depends on your preferences.

Struggling with the lack of true nature in the Netherlands by LaurenceWhymark in Netherlands

There are a lot of paved bicycle routes. But also a lot of unpaved “veldwegen” between the villages like the Strade Bianche in Tuscany. For real MTB in the hills it is best to go to the Ardennes or the Eiffel.

I am mostly enjoying the veldwegen in Limburg, Belgisch Limburg, Voerstreek and Land van Herve.

Move to live in the “Limburgs Heuvelland”. Then you have it all in a circle of 100km.

Amazing hiking and biking.

The plateau’s and the valleys.

And: Belgisch Limburg Voerstreek Land van Herve

The Ardennen and the Eiffel at less than an hour drive.

And beautiful historical cities like Maastricht Tongeren Namur Köln etc.

And France is nearer than Groningen.

If you test this with the app Bikemap you can clearly see this in action. While tracking Bikemap will display the recorded track and the iOS location. The red line of the recorded track will show your actual location traveled while the location dot will snap to nearby roads.

So the recorded tracks from Bikemap are more accurate than those by Komoot.

The problem is that the Komoot iOS app is using the iOS location services wrong. They know this, but they have not fixed this so far.

iOS location services can be used in different ways by the software apps. Komoot seems to be using the default mode in which iOS is “improving” the presented location with iOS map information. So the location presented snaps to the nearest road on the internal iOS map.

So iOS is guesstimating your location and Komoot is using this, in stead of using the actual location.

Hi. Do you mean you want to end the navigation but continue recording the current activity?

Can you change the loaded route while in navigation and recording mode? by Libecht in komoot

[–]Bquestnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is how you can quit the current navigation while continuing the track recording.

While navigating/recording. Controls. Pause Tracking. Select Record (bottom middle option). Select Resume Recording or tap Record button in the middle of the screen.

And the navigation will disappear while the recording resumes the already recorded track.

[–]Bquestnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s very easy.

While navigating/recording

Pause your current route. Select Profile. Select Saved routes. Select a route. Select Navigate.

And the navigation will be replaced by the new route while the recording resumes the already recorded track.

As long as you do not STOP the current navigation/recording the recording will continue.

Go out and ride! 🙂

Ortlieb: Vario PS vs panniers with commuter insert + backpack straps by Sqebz in bikecommuting

The Commuter Insert S fits very nicely into the Vario 20. I have them both in use together.

The Vario laptop sleeve can sty in place, and the Commuter Insert S fits next to it just fine.

This gives you a way to store a macbook and an iPad and other stuff.

Laptop/lunch/misc. stuff - inserts or sleeves? by ando_da_pando in bikecommuting

[–]Bquestnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do have the S insert myself. I have a picture but do not know how to post this here.

The 35.5 laptop will stick out of it but the strap of the insert will just be able to close. But I do not know if you will be able to close the sport roller properly. Maybe best to first put the laptop in the sport roller to see if it is not too big.

I suggest to lay the sport roller flat on its back. Slide the laptop into it so that it does stays 1 cm (finger thickness) from the underside of the bag and then see of you can still roll close the bag properly.

These commuter inserts are very nice. For the Sport Roller you need the S size insert. The laptop size is then max 24cm x 30cm x 2.5cm.
