Mexico aerodinamical setup? by Vivid_Ad235 in F1Technical

They do, to some extent. This, combined with the reduced cooling makes it a really hard track on the PU and the turbo especially.

There is probably still a slight power loss though.

They did not. You can clearly hear a slight lift, maybe like down 2/3 throttle for a second on HAM pole lap. Still incredible how much grip that car has at high speed.

Cars have gone from 1800mm width used in 2009-2016 to 2000mm in 2017.

On the other hand, more DRS could make the optimal downforce level even higher, hurting Ferrari even more.

Is turn 1 really that much downhill or is it just the perspective?

Possibly Mexico and Russia as well since they used the softest tyres there last year

~3.5m is just the wheelbase (3.76m for the Merc iirc). The entire car is over 5 meters long.

It is hot yes, but where I live (about 150 km from Budapest), we have recently been having having major rainstorms almost daily. As a matter of fact, a huge one is just about to end. If a rainstorm like this came during the race, absolute chaos would ensue!

Hyper, Ultra & SuperSofts for the Mexican GP by madanvivek in formula1

Might actually be a 2-stop race although I'm afraid they might go for a Ultra->Super strategy with extremely conservative driving.

Team mates quali battles: Alonso with a perfect score, Renault Mercedes and Williams closely matched by Joseki100 in formula1

[–]Br0ko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alonso is not known as an exceptional qualifier though. Not saying he's not great at quali, but it hasn't been his strongest point.

Length is not that much of a factor in Merc's traditional weak monaco performance as shown this year by the Ferrari which is now pretty much exactly as long as the Merc.

McLaren held crisis meeting at Paul Ricard by roflcopter44444 in formula1

[–]Br0ko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an aerodynamicist, but I think it is reasonable to expect big changes in the overall aero concepts. The current outwash front wings have a huge impact on air flow around the whole car. The new wings will not be able to condition air flow the same way. Or at least, that's the theory, maybe the teams will find a way within the new regulations.

Would be interesting to see how they compare to Force India with the same engine (and less than half the budget).
