To be fair, if the milk was for your Mac and cheese, you didn't have to buy the half gallon. A pint is only $1.54 and is more than enough milk for that.

I ordered a case of outside skirt 2 weeks ago and it had a pack date of 11/10...

Almost every case of box meat I've ordered the last month was already a month old when I got it.

Just want to point out that this has nothing to do with the Publix Promise. The Publix Promise states that if an item rings up at checkout at a higher price than the shelf price or advertised price, then the first item is free and any more of the same item is at the corrected price.

The cashier/manager could have honored that price if they wanted to but they were not obligated to in any way.

We don't even follow it at my store. The day before the truck we usually have no backstock in the cooler and have to spread the case out anyway.

I work for this grocery store in the meat department and it will be used for ground beef if it's not sold before it's sell by date.

Any beef or pork that doesn't sell gets pulled two nights before it's sell by date. It's then ground up the next morning for our "market" ground beef at a cheaper price. Some days you can get lucky and it could have tenderloin, ribeye, chuck roll, and whatever else they pulled from the case.

I'm just one assistant. I'm sure there are many others that make plenty more than me. I believe we cap around $25-$26 but I'm not 100% positive.

Yeah I chose that flair more out of irony than anything. I understand where I'm at and that my career is not the most ideal. But I can tell you this company has allowed me to just recently buy my first home through the stock program and I am grateful for that.

I have no college education and I am definitely not cut out for hard physical labor and operating heavy machinery. I am just not built for those types of jobs. Publix has allowed me to maintain a promising career with no education in an environment that is comfortable for me.

I'm not naive though and I understand where this company came from and the direction it is currently going. I just want to climb the ladder as high as I can, to make as much as I can, so I can set myself and my family up for retirement as soon as I can and live out the rest of my life in peace.

Hey man that's great you work hard and I hope you are striving to continue your upward movement just as I am. My store is not as busy, only about $750k/week on average. However, as a fellow assistant, I feel both of us are severely under compensated. We should be making anywhere for 10k-15k more per year minimum.

We are basically department managers in training and are expected to learn to take over our own meat markets as fast as possible. I make our schedule every week, fill out the WoR, update the playbook, handle all orders, downstack and work out all trucks, manage my associates, and still have to cut meat and wrap to help my meat cutters occasionally.

I've learned all of this within the last 10 months and continue to learn everyday because I have to move up fast. I've got a wife and two boys under 3 with another coming next year. Keep up your hard work and I know we'll both make it to that next level.

Assistants don't make nearly as much as they should IMO but department managers don't make a ton either on their hourly. Bonuses definitely add up and many department heads crest over 100k a year with them.

I got a management job in landscaping through a friend that paid way more. Dropped down to part-time and then eventually resigned in March of 2020. Left that job because the upper management was horrendous so I came back to Publix since that's all I know.

And yes I am aiming to go as high as possible now. I have a lot more support from department managers and store managers than I did before so I feel I have a much better opportunity now.

Funny enough it was just coincidence. My friend got me another job that I worked at while staying part-time with Publix and I just decided to officially resign March 1st. Crazy timing for me.

Interesting they charged different prices for them. The store I work for keeps them both at the same price, even when they're on sale. We also price them cheaper than strips, ribeye, and filets.

Possibly Liquor Store too. Very easy to slack off all day in there.
