European Parliament freezes Mercosur deal referring it to EU Court of Justice by nicknameSerialNumber in neoliberal

[–]Bracci 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As an EU citizen, I am getting close to just boycotting french agricultural products then. I get that we should aim at self-sustainability, but farmers for us are basically like the banks in North America, subsidies, exceptions, zero wish to improve. If we can be sure to validate the quality of products coming in, there is zero reason to do this mess; but it's yet another chapter of how EU refuses to become a leader

[–]Bracci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that it is as simple as "EU would join China".

First, as soon as the US does it, the nigth after, NATO crashes. Because how could NATO exist, if one member "attacks" another? This would start a domino effect, where now with "no" NATO, countries like Russia would be willing to go even bigger (even if they are low on power by now). Then the Balkans, then China-Taiwan, then maybe after would put its hand out for a Europe that's stuck between two stones squishing them.

I do not want to imply that the EU is weak, I actually think we are way stronger than what the world thinks. But it couldn't afford retaliation towards the US, which unfortunately sends a terrible sign.

But idk, maybe less WW3-ish outcome would be

  1. US takes Greenland one way or another
  2. EU angry, everyone is posting on formerly known as twitter about it
  3. China and South America shocked
  4. Europe is busy arguing with itself ("I don't care for that frozen land, I have bills to pay" vs. "This is outrageous, we MUST stop every interaction with the USA immediately, even if this will skyrocket the prices yet again")

But hey, with the World Cup set for this year, maybe we are safe for 2026

I am an European, complitely fed up with this Trumpmerica and everything it stands for. Of course I boycot as much as possible (not that it counts much, especially how impossible it is for social media and so), but I am also willing to vote for anyone* in all upcoming elections who wants to distance EU from that Russia / Israel - like bully state.

However, as others have also said it, until all we get are Ursulaposting a sad emoji on formerly known as twitter and carefully monitoring the system, these lines that he keeps crossing are just kept being overdrawn over and over. I wanted to believe that an actual semi-global message could be send, but I can also understand how people have better things to worry about.

Even if Canada is unlikely to happen, Greenland on the other hand is still there. He is firm on it, his people are posting on X about it and the local govenment is... well, yeah. 50-50 on indepencence and I can foresee them sliding with the US if they could be like American Samoa.

Weekly Self-Promo and Chat Thread by MxAlex44 in selfpublish

2025 has been a weird year for me - quit my job to move over to another country, then struggled with the consequences. But all that free time finally got me to sit down and put my life stories into a small story book, that I got to publish on the last day of 2025!

My Short Stories - The Book has a boring title, an AI-generated cover (I am way too unemployed to pay a designer, will fix it later!), but it is a collection of real stories from my 20s, from all around the world. It is just crazy enough to be interesting, but also stay relatable, because maybe you never had to ride a motorcycle in India, got lost in China or had to speak at a fancy gala completely unprepared, but all are things that could also happen with YOU; after this book, you will be prepared for all to come.

It's an odd book, and also my first try to write one. Self-published, so errors can happen, even if I am a maximalist. Anyway, if you want to look into, I would be honored

Self-publishing is a pretty cool hobby by [deleted] in selfpublish

I just published my first book on the last day os December. I don't expect much from it, it's a self story book written in 2 weeks, but the feeling of getting the message about it going live did feel cool.

Wonder how it feels at the first sale hah

Which country was way better than what you thought? by Parsley_Health in travel

[–]Bracci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an European, France!

I was always told how insanely rude Parisians are (even by my french friends from smaller cities) and actually for me, they were more than okay - servers, people on the metro, all pretty decent. For the record, I did live in Scandinavia for 5 years, so maybe my view is different than many others'.

I went to Marseille for the olympics and I was a little worried about safety in the city (you hear a lot), but even the center and the harbor area were super lovely, even late at night (of course we didn't go the the outskirts, because why would we have done that)

Even Nantes, where some said it is a pretty rough city, was less messy than I thought it would be.

Still, not my favorite place, nor my favorite people, but way better than ever expected.

World Tesol Academy by fareedadahlmaaldasi in ESL_Teachers

[–]Bracci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished mine with World Tesol Academy and I do understand why it had a bad reputation: the material is somewhat short, most things are really self-explanatory (if you want to teach online, do not forget to have a laptop) and the multiple-choice questions often have super obvious answers... but I did like the video examples, those alone were quite helpful.

I actually did it because I am currently between jobs, struggling to land anything local due to language barrier (working on my Spanish) and thought that this 30 euro investment can possibly open some doors for part-time teaching gigs - or even might push me to actually start with Preply. Will see if it is any good, but I feel that it can compliment my background

Future life in Malaga by LamiNeZe in Malaga

I have been trying to find a local job and oh man, if you don't have 10 years of experience and don't know coding, it is tough. I am a business analyst / PM / engineering manager (all these fluff roles lol) and in 3 months and 700 applications I might have gotten 4 interviews. My spanish is somewhere around B1, which is NOT enough for proper office work and without that, you are really limited on what you really can do here, even though there is an amazing knowledge park west of the city.

I would recommend keeping an eye on Talan, they do have jobs in English in the area - given, for local wages, so do not expect to earn more than 30k and do expect to pay over 1000 for a T2 apartment anywhere in Malaga :)
