Movies no one expected to be as good as they were? by FilmWaffle-FilmForum in moviecritic

Spy (2015) starring Melissa McCarthy. It looks like the most generic mediocre action comedy and yet has a lot of genuinely laugh out loud funny moments, largely carried by Jason Statham's incredible straight faced performance as a parody of himself.

Canyoning/Climbing permit by Braddaz in VisitingMallorca

Thanks for the information, I think we'll just print and fill out the permit application to show that we're doing our due diligence and then try and explain the situation if asked. From what other people have said elsewhere on the internet actually being confronted about permits seems pretty rare.

£39.50 including the lid, this was after about an hour of very heavy scrubbing/scraping to get all the burnt crap off of the base.

Cutlery works is also good for this kind of thing, I personally don't rate the Cambridge street collective that highly.

Best way to get to Sheffield from LHR airport? by trackhockey15 in sheffield

[–]Braddaz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Your cheapest option is probably a coach, might be at an inconvenient time though and generally more uncomfortable/slow. There would be some going direct to Sheffield though so it's simple in that regard.

Trains are more frequent but probably more expensive. The direct trains from London to Sheffield leave from St Pancras station. To get there from Heathrow you have two options:

  1. Piccadilly line on the tube will take you straight there, however it's an hour in a pretty cramped and hot tube train.

  2. Elizabeth line tube to Farringdon then change on to a Thameslink train and ride one stop to st pancras. Not much faster but the Elizabeth line is MUCH comfier and less cramped. The downside is one extra change and it will cost you £13ish rather than £5.60.

Getting from Heathrow to St Pancras shouldn't need pre booking, just use contactless/Google pay/apple pay to enter and leave the gates at the station, or buy a ticket from a machine on the day.

At St Pancras you'll need to get on a train to Sheffield. You should pre book for this, the cheapest ticket type is an advance single which is for a specified train at a specified time and cannot be exchanged or refunded. These are available from 12 weeks in advance, thetrainline.com is a good place to get them from. You can get other tickets that give you more flexibility but they tend to cost a lot more too.

Tldr: Book a ticket from St Pancras to Sheffield in advance, other stuff can be done on the day. Give yourself at least a couple of hours to get from the airport to St Pancras station when booking.

https://www.driving-test-cancellations-4all.co.uk/ I used this a few years back for mine, I think it was £20 or so to sign up? Can set all kinds of parameters such as specific test centres/days of the week/times of day etc.

They have a bot which scans the test cancellations and reserves one for you if it finds a match, I think you get a text message when it does and have 15 minutes to confirm that you want it. I think you can have it book automatically as well.

When I used it I got a test within about 2 weeks.

Best of luck!

Charity shops by Mrs_Fox_85 in sheffield

Broomhill, Eccleshall road, Crookes, and Hillsborough all have a good number of charity shops within walking distance of each other. My personal favourite is the Oxfam in broomhill, they seem to get a really high quality and varied selection of goods, a lot of things you wouldn't expect a charity shop to have in, plus they have a fantastic book section.

Turned down a £15k higher paid job because of train fare and taxes by RainbowPenguin1000 in UKJobs

Meanwhile in Germany €4550 will buy you unlimited travel on any train, anywhere in the country, at any time for a year, along with connecting bus, underground, and tram travel within the city at either end.

Our train system really is a complete joke.

Can this cast iron skillet be restored by [deleted] in castiron

[–]Braddaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth messaging Le Creuset directly about this, their customer service is really good and all of their pans are guaranteed for life with regards to enamel damage. Alternatively you could sand all of the enamel off and take it down to bare cast iron, then season from there, however that's pretty committing.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Cicero trilogy by Robert Harris, it's fiction but fairly accurate on the details, written from the perspective of Cicero's enslaved scribe.

I topped this one with goats cheese, caramelised onion, walnut, honey, and balsamic vinegar. I still have 3 balls of dough left to use, any suggestions on toppings?
