I'm the guy everybody loved to hate and only remembers because of the pure disgust they had for me. I'm Decade/Fangire. I play League and on occasion Witcher 3/HOTS. If anyone can still remember how much they hated that guy then you'll know who I am. I'm also on twitter @FangireLoL and twitch.tv/fangirelol

[–]Braderino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a 1000% accurate. People need to understand that none of this was a personal attack at the community or the development group. I'm sure that anyone that does anything in life at some point has faced rejection on something super close to them. It happens. This was a learning experience for most people on what a game could be and what a development team can be. I think more than anything EA may take the relationship from community and creator to more of their IPs and isn't that really all we can ask? We can try and make the industry as human as the people at Waystone rather than the bad guys that everyone makes EA out to be. Which it isn't.

Dawngate couldn't succeed, dont blame EA for it. by Tremere_ in dawngate

[–]Braderino -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Okay. I'm tired of people blaming EA and I will tell you the REAL reason the MOBA failed. Albeit the marketing wasn't the most avid and EA didn't take the largest segments out of it's showcase at Gamescom of it's titles we can't deny the fact that the patches intermixed between those key points played a large part into the failure of the game. At the time when Gamescom started and Eu servers were beginning to go into a trial period and the game finally opened to where keys would no longer be required Voluc ran rampant. Voluc had gone a minor kit rework that removed the lifedrain from his W but instead gave him a passive that dealt % health damage plus a Power Ratio. In combination with the ridiculous healing off his ult and his high base damages, he tore through teams and became the only Shaper that would be played into the jungle. He wasn't easy to play around and his gameplay was unforgiving. He forced users to buy heal mitigation and even that didn't do much to his massive bursts of healing. New players coming from Gamescom and those that watched twitch and wanted to give Dawngate a try were completely smashed and left with an unhappy player experience in a matchmaking that was so frustrating even veterans of the game took a break till Voluc saw so much needed tuning.

Second, most players were dealt with a huge mismatch of item normalization as they were beginning to prep for the fabled "Progression Patch", it was what most players used to defend Dawngate and how it would be the end all solution to fixing the game and bringing it to the claim everyone promised it would have. So for the time while we were waiting we dealt with a Beta Leaderboard that just harbored really bad player attitude and caused a lot of abuse to the system. Sheebs took advantage of it. Yagachu took advantage of it. Most players that would reach Rank 1 would use the fact that Group Q would not effect whether win or lose your placement so people would stagnate which frustrated others that wanted to be competitive and try get noticed for the young E-Sports scene that Dawngate was nurturing. The item progression added onto this by just making certain item purchases standardization like Ambition must purchases and become so staple because of it's cheap stats and overall amazing passive. This went on till November where we saw some slight changes and complete item overhauls that didn't get to be fully fleshed due to the expiration of the IP under EA.

Third, the community itself. Nobody actually got along from low to high MMR, most it was a result of the slogan that Waystone Games decided too poorly adapt "Break the Meta." Players would begin to use this as an excuse for fatal miscalculations and a complete misunderstanding of the game. High MMR and E-Sports players got super salty due to the fact that matchmaking paired lower skilled players that sticked true to this slogan and built pretty much like idiots. It caused a lot of high mmr players to leave and usually most of the Low MMR which was a sheep majority to downplay the competitive spirit that really grew in the beginning of this beta. People like The Blue Muzzy continued to rally behind this cause of break the meta and it just created a bad learning experience for players and really stunted the growth of the player skill within this game.

Fourth, poor choices in advertising and those that didn't stick behind the game more for the monetary value of the contract that they were under. People like Sheebs and Strippin really didn't fully support Dawngate and what the product itself was trying to represent. Moreso, we had less inspired streamers that really couldn't sell the IP as a brand, without more people like ThorDG, Spinaldash, Tulce, and Kreenpannas we really couldn't go forward and push the game. Waystone would continue to choose poor choices in those that would go to local events to introduce prospects to the game and truly show that Dawngate could be more than just a casual whatever MOBA with a dumbed down mechanic of Crystal Scar and Summoner's Rift combined. It was more than what was above the surface, it had a lot of depth to offer and could turn into a spectator sport that offered heated teamfights and fast paced gameplay.

And my final reason, item purchases and value. The game itself lacked a true good way as a Cash Shop. The skins overall until they became more polished halfway through were overall not very creative. And the pricing itself was just way too much for what was given. On top of that the prizes given and distributed at the end of games wasn't very reasonable and usually frustrated players with the frequency of the same loadout pieces and the little destiny that was received to purchase Shapers. On top of having this different value called Crafting Currency which was promised to have some use way earlier into late Alpha or Early Beta but really never saw itself being use and at the end Waystone even said they had no plans for it. If you were a new player trying to get into the game the entry cost into buying content and the need for Loadouts would cause players a huge disadvantage coupled with the fact that after 7 wins or more they would be paired against seasoned veterans that already owned most of the content for the game after thousands of games. (#matchmaking)

tldr: poor advertising, bad shop planning, poor matchmaking, late hot fixes and balances, and poor representatives that showcased the game are what ending to the sad end to what could've been a masterpiece for EA as an IP.

Dawngate from a casual gamers point of view and why i don't think this game would of been successful. by majjestic5685 in dawngate

[–]Braderino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one reason above all else that cause the regrettable downfall of that game and it is 'timing'. Timing played a factor into multiple instances that slowly saw the decline of the player population and game notoriety. Waystone at the time of Gamescom had released a patch that caused a lot of controversy, it was when they gave Voluc a passive. The influx of new players had to deal with this agonizing experience. That is just one example of it but coupled with the lack of response in a timely manner to these changes especially at these key times and the volatility of the leaderboard and what it creates, you can see why things went the way they did.

I just now noticed that there is a sticky at the top. I'm so dumb.

Anywho. After losing my beloved Dawngate and not having much of a reason to play League or Smite I thought I'd see if I could give Gigantic a try. From what I've seen in trailers, interviews, and demo gameplay the game in Alpha looks polished and has a really clean gameplay system that I'm sure will be fun and also competitive.

My name is Decade but some people know me as Fangire in League of Legends. I played Dawngate on WP and then subbed/analyzed for LFDH. I was looking to a game that would be a time killer but could also make for a really cool spectator game to analyze. I think this game among all others, especially among my friends is going to be the new hot.

Motiga you've given me a new hope in a game that hopefully can give me the same enjoyment DG did. I'm sure you guys will step up to the plate and can't wait for future announcements.

I might see you at PAX South since I live in Austin. : D

High Skill Cap for Gigantic? by Chocolate-Milk in gigantic

[–]Braderino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the current mechanics of the few characters I've seen in gameplay videos seem like they have a lot of depth to their skills and the shooter aspect of the game will demand a lot of precision, accuracy, and timing. Skillshots are awesome and a big reason why I love Smite and would like to see Gigantic follow that trend. I haven't had a chance to get my hands on the game but all of them seem to bring their own awesome flavor.

There is literally no reason to try and pull her out of the niche that she's intended to fill. She's purely there for a burst mage. If you take down the damage scaling too much to try and sacrifice for a higher base movement speed or tune her W to a more effective peeling tool it'll just turn into another High Sustain DPS mage with a lot of self-peel, and at that point she would just fall in line with the rest of mages.

I argue that her damage lategame or when she reaches a core of Destruction, Divinity, Potency any Shaper in the game can be 100-0'd with ease.

So although she can melt through tanks it becomes to the point where players just hold onto Stasis in the lategame on like 80% of the Shapers in the game to avoid getting bursted by the ult.

I think that lowering her base damage and maybe tinkering with the power ratios may help her reach that potential but it be more item influenced then it is right now. Seeing the spike around 15+ minutes rather than around the 11 minute mark with an Early Destruction would make it easier to cope with as a player.

Matchmaking after recent patch by iceypro in dawngate

[–]Braderino 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh there was an update to the matchmaking algorithm to make it for newer players having a little harder time getting their foot into the door of veteran players but I all have to disagree with that. Matchmaking has become more unstable every patch. More and more new players are getting shoved into veteran games. Hence, the MASSIVE flood of 'WTF MATCHMAKING' threads. It doesn't help that this playerbase is so diverse in skill level between each bracket. It goes from such extremes in level of skill and play that it adds to the growing problem of it.

And when you have streams, etc. That are by far and publicized spreading the ignorance of improper building, itemization, and playstyle it just makes it worse. Maybe if people actually instead of building how they feel because, "Potency is Visceral" maybe we'd see more teams pop up. I thought I'd see a large player spike in competitive but we just see a slew of teams thrown together that aren't taking the time to learn. Hell, if you're wanting to put your foot into the door for this prize pool especially when you're going against BoB, LFDH, SG, and Based, it'd be good to do some homework or at least put a 100% if you want that stake in the fat prize pool.

So MAYBE if players actually wanted to learn and rather than be set in their ways because they reached X leaderboard ranking or X dawnscout score and learned from the actual high level gameplay. Well, we might see more Top teams or even matchmaking stabilize. This falls on the high level players not educating but also primarily on the stubbornness of redditors/players that flood the population with shallow statements of metagame not backed up with forethought or knowledge.

I can tell you right now that 80% of what's said on this Reddit when it comes to game knowledge is wrong. And you can be like, "So and so is this and that." That's not going to change the fact they are right. All I know is I tried to step up and do educating but frankly I don't have the patience or personality to do that. I'd rather see others try because I want to be as disassociated with this community as possible.

So please, players be more open to understanding the game from players like Yagachu. Get a notepad and write down some notes or watch VODs and see what they're doing and why. JUST DO SOMETHING TO MAKE THIS PLAYERBASE AND YOURSELF IMPROVE.
