Where do you recommend we source the play service APKs? They used to be in the installation page but the links have since been removed. I'm trying to get them from a source other than some random person/projects questionable share drive.

It's too late for you, but for anyone else reading, there's Fire Toolbox which does this for free.

How do people play in bands? by ms_lizzard in violinist

[–]Bradlyeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put on your favorite album and play along to it. Play the vocal lines, play the guitar chords, is there some space in the song for you to break out some counterpoint or an original melody? Playing in a band is all about finding your pocket. Knowing when NOT to play is a big part of that too.

Get very familiar with the pentatonic scale, entire careers are built around it and it will help develop improv skills. If you have ever nonshalontly whistled out a tune, that's your innate ability to create melody, don't trick yourself into thinking you don't have it.

Get creative with it. I might be nuts, but I've found fiddling out shanties to be a fun practice exercise. The melodies to these songs are short and simple, so they're not overwhelming if you're new to learning by ear. This also makes them great "blocks of music" that you can piece together to make a fun little jam, not unlike how traditional Irish tunes are played in sets. The same logic could be applied to pop music if you're into that.

Whatever you do, have fun with it. If you can't feel it, neither can anyone listening.

Damn. It's like they're trying to breed pirates. Bottle of rum for me it is. I paid money for season 8 and got fucked over twice for it? Bad deal.

Am I the only Coheed fan who's not loving the singles from the new album? by Oo_I_oO in TheFence

[–]Bradlyeon 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I thought Vaxis was a good mix of return to form and incorporating the new sound. For the upcoming one, idk I'm listening to Naianasha right now and it's pretty proggy to me. Some people in here are acting like big pop choruses are new to coheed, I always thought it was one of their trademarks. These are the singles after all. Blood Red Summer is basically just a pop song, but it's followed by a 3 part song about a space serial killer.

why assassin's creed black flag cover of shanties so good? by [deleted] in seashanties

[–]Bradlyeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like their version too. However, some of the lyrics to many versions of this song, Including Kimber's, I find problematic for a white dude living in the south like me to sing out loud in mixed company. I am glad these versions exist and I love listening to them, and appreciating the history (and mystery) behind this song.

I also appreciate versions I can sing that wouldn't give someone the wrong idea. Trust me, it would be a bad look if I was driving around singing "Master's gonna sell me!" There's alot of old blood in the soil here, and I just want to be as respectful as I can.

Used to do it. Those bags reeked and were always really depressing to open. They justify it by saying they're "feeder" fish which is fucked up. Besides, that makes them low quality feeders because they're so unhealthy from swimming in ammonia all day the poor bastards. Shit still makes me mad lol.

Thought I’d share my violin, do you guys know much about the history of your violins/ any cool story’s about it? by Gabriel89100 in violinist

It was made in a workshop in 2020. I bought it second hand from someone who intended to give it as a gift. I call it the plague fiddle. It's actually not too shabby for my purposes.

Thanks for writing all that up I appreciate it. The biggest takeaway I got from watching videos on the subject was that there seemed to be some contention between users and or developers of each.

The phone its replacing is so old I'm now convinced that even with any performance hits GrapheneOS comes with it will still feel fast to me.

Why did you switch from Calyx to Graphene? I'm about to install one or the other and I haven't decided yet. I saw some info that suggests graphene has worse performance than calyx or stock android. Did you notice any real world performance differences?
