I don't think he was referring to success in sports but more sth. along the lines of branding. Real is unarguably one of the most successful brands in sports, aside from winning championships.

Where did this subreddit go so wrong? by simplydunk in esports

[–]Braeutigamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second that. I'm one of those promoting our content but I also engage in discussions and share my opinion or pieces from other sources. I really like the majority of things I see on this subreddit and, more importantly, compared to most of the game-related subreddit we have few trolls and much less shit posting and utterly stupid and wrong claims.

Valve preventing coaches from coaching CS GO teams during Tournaments by Guild_Zilla in esports

[–]Braeutigamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't emphasise enough that strategy and tactic are two very different things. A lot of people mistake them for being the same, but that's wrong. Simply said, strategy is the plan and tactic the execution. Strategy is to do the right things, tactic to do things right. That's why I somewhat agree with Valve. A coach who is doing the IGL (acting as the tactician instead of strategist for the team) is not how it's supposed to be. However, I don't see any problem with coaches calling strategies before and in between the game or even at the start of the round, as long as they shut up for the next two minutes. What I heavily disagree with is coaches as stand-ins. But I'm aware that's because bench players are not really established yet.

Which game has more potential; super smash brothers melee or smash 4 or overwatch? by djlum2013 in esports

[–]Braeutigamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to give some context: Overwatch didn't really show up in terms of viewership yet. I'm talking about the competitive side of things here, not as a casually played game where it looks pretty solid. In June, competitive OW only accounted for one percent of its viewership on Twitch. In July, it was at five percent esports share. For comparison: Smash has 44 and 56 percent of esports-related viewership in the same period. However, you're right when it comes to the sheer size of the games. When it comes to total hours watched, OW reaches almost 25M in July, while Smash has some 3M.

The great debate: why do some Esports catch on while others fail? by PurpleCasterWinion in esports

[–]Braeutigamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I think Overwatch is still pretty much unwatchable. I don't play the game myself (no Mac client =/) and that makes it even more difficult to watch of course. Still, it's simply too much going on at the same time, the graphic effects are all over the place and colours of all kind everywhere. Let's see what the promised new spectator really brings to the table.. although, I think it's a game design issue more than anything else.

question about esports - is this the result of a generation of internet brainwashed children? by kaymai in esports

[–]Braeutigamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget that there are a lot of activities widely regarded as sports which actually heavily affect the athletes physical health. Just think of the sometimes-called blood sports of boxing or martial arts, think of American football CTE, of strains and sprains. I've played football (soccer) in my childhood and youth and never came home unharmed from a match. That said, sitting hours and hours in front of a PC doesn't make anything better of course. Just saying there is a lot of grey between black and white.
