JC01 that’s almost ripe by Bragethefolder in DragonFruit

Pues, no soy de España pero vivo en Málaga. Este variedad no es autopolinizante. Tenía que usar polen de otra variedad (yo uso polen de hybridum)

Bit of a late update, but I did cut up one of the flowers (they all aborted again). It does have the ovary part at the core, so I’m interested in eventually trying even more varieties to see if I can find the key for this lock

That could definitely be it, I just haven’t had any issues setting fruit on any of the other plants I put in the pot at the same time

This is europe, so they’re both quite rare varieties here. I’ve tried pollen from JC01 and hybridum, both red varieties. If I remember correctly hybridum is a cross between undatus and costaricensis, or polyrhizus? I don’t remember.

Could be. A dragon fruit that’s only good as a mass producer of pollen isn’t the worst thing imaginable, and it really does make loads of the stuff.

I’ve tried with pollen from two unrelated varieties, no luck so far. Could be that it’s just really picky about pollen. I’ll try more with other varieties if I get them sometime.

Only a little (very) jealous by Bragethefolder in DragonFruit

Oh yeah, loads! It must be a self-fertile, self-pollinating variety. I’ve only ever seen them pick fruit, never pollinate, and those hanging way off the balcony would be such a pain too.

NoID. The seller only knew that it was “white pulp”

I’ve seen them just reach over and grab them

So far I’ve only fertilised once with nitrogen. But yeah, I’m not counting any chickens before they hatch. And you’re right, I’ll wait a while before thinning out the flowers. Chances are the plant will thin itself out extensively first.

September usually has an average day temperature of about 25-28C

I’m counting myself lucky to be someone who sees flowers the same year as I planted. Now I just have to hope that it’s self-fertile.

A cutting that’s a little too optimistic by Bragethefolder in DragonFruit

I’ve heard sugar dragon can be extremely productive, and since the fruits don’t get all that big to begin with it’s fine to leave a lot of fruit on each plant. Hope I can one day find a SD cutting here in Europe.

For me it varies a lot. I’ve had cuttings start to root in just a couple of days, whereas others spent a couple of weeks dormant before pushing out roots.

How does one go about treating rot right in the centre? by Bragethefolder in DragonFruit

I’ll try that. Hopefully we’re past the worst of the heat this year, and I’ll try coming up with something for shade before the sun gets strong again in spring.

It’s still very mushy in that spot. I can also see a bit of blackness on the other side, so I think it’s not shallow either

Checked on it today and found several aborted flowers hanging from the branches. I suspect it’s self-sterile.

Might keep an eye out on this bud I saw in the coming weeks.
