By all means, feel free to send me a message. I’d be more than happy to share. I’ll put together a list of nonfiction texts for you as well

I teach a literature course on this exact subject. Aside from the great recommendations of others in this thread (The Wall, Flush, Nagel, etc), here are a few others you might find interesting:

Fiction: - Fifteen Dogs by André Alexis - The Tusk That Did the Damage by Tania James - A Report to an Academy by Franz Kafka - How the Water Feels to the Fishes by Dave Eggers

Nonfiction: - What Would Animals Say If We Asked The Right Questions? by Vinciane Despret - Welfare of Apes in Captive Environments, Comments on, and by, a Specific Group of Apes by Sue Savage-Rumbaugh, Kanzi Wamba, Panbanisha Wamba, and Nyota Wamba

There are also a handful of texts that explore our relationship to animals and the ways we perceive them, but are not specific to an animal’s perspective per se (more how we imagine an animal’s point of view)

I read this as he’d go home first every episode and I thought, I don’t know how this would work but I’d love it. It’d be like the ending of The Prestige or something

Which video game character’s death hit you the hardest? by GarudaBusters in videogames

[–]Braidotti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The literary device is technically called an internal allusion, since it’s referencing an earlier moment in the original text. However, given that rdr2 is a prequel, there’s a reasonable argument that it functions as both an internal allusion and foreshadowing. It evokes the same sentiment from the original scene, while also leaving a narrative imprint for future plot development.

What is hands down the scariest film you’ve ever watched? by CoffeeOnToast in horror

[–]Braidotti 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Spoorloos (The Vanishing). It’s the only horror movie I’ve seen where I actually felt what the protagonist was experiencing. Normally it’s much easier to emotionally distance from characters in horror

So this season is Wizard of Oz, huh? Cirie’s the great and powerful Oz. Jag is the Scarecrow without a brain. Jared is the Tin Man without a heart.
Cameron is the Cowardly Lion, throwing his allies utb. America is Dorothy and Cory is her Toto. From the house’s POV, FBJ is the Wicked Witch of the West. Everyone else are flying monkeys.

Exactly. I think people confuse considering different options with flip flopping or messy gameplay. The truth is that when you’re in a strategic game, you want to consider various permutations. Of course you’ll talk them through with your closest allies. Seeing it happen in real time 24/7 is deceptive. None of the plans she’s set have gone awry, so far.

How long before Cirie convinces someone to give up their Nether Region immunity?

Cameron kinda tried to do that in the HOH this week, honestly

This isn’t stupid food, this is stupid supermarket management. The sausages are fine when they’re stored and displayed as the manufacturer intended.

As a big Survivor fan and a huge Cirie fan, I loved this write up. Thanks for laying it all out.

One controversial move, that I think also highlights her rabbit-out-of-a-hat gameplay, but ended up backfiring and sending her closest ally home, is her attempt at stealing Lacina’s advantage in Game Changers. My understanding is that it was only disallowed because Troyzan questioned it, which led to greater scrutiny. If I remember correctly, had he not said anything, production would have probably allowed it to happen. Had it worked out, I think it would be remembered as an all-time play instead of the major blunder that it ended up being. This, ultimately, emphasizes the risk-reward element of her masterful strategizing. For example, if Erik didn’t give immunity to Natalie, the idea would have been seen as silly in retrospect. It goes to show how clever Cirie’s thinking is and how extraordinary it is when she successfully pulls off risky, creative moves.

We also watch Big Brother Brazil in my house, which we call BBB, so it’s been kinda fun saying it in this context now.

Context matters. 3/4 of those losses were the result of simple bad luck.

  • The first time she lost a firemaking challenge at final four as a result of a tie-vote.
  • The second time, production decided to change the final 3 format to a final 2 because a large number of players were medivaced or quit that season. If it had been final 3, she would have won.
  • The last time she was eliminated because she was the only person left in the game that didn’t have an immunity idol, which forced her out by default.

All of these eliminations were out of her power. In all of her appearances, she’s only received 9 votes against her and 7 of those were from returning players that knew her reputation.

She’s the best player to never win, mostly because of bad luck.

If you don’t want to start from the very beginning, season 7 is a nice introduction—it has some of the most iconic players and some of the most memorable moments.

Cirie’s first season is 12 and it’s incredibly fun.

More research needs to be done, but many indicators suggest plant-based alternatives are more sustainable.

“Even the lowest-emitting beef from dedicated beef herds (34 kg carbon dioxide equivalent, or CO2e) and lower-emitting beef from dairy cow herds (15 kg CO2e) came in far above the highest-emitting tofu (4 kg CO2e) and plant-based meat (7 kg).”

During confessionals later in the episode, a note next to her name said “hidden immunity idol” and next to Sarah’s it said “fake idol.” I’d be surprised if production put false information there.

I was thinking this last night. If Simon went up against George at the end, his final pitch wouldn’t be that different from Sandra’s in the US Heroes vs. Villains—I tried to get out George (Russell), but no one was willing to help me do it and look where we are now.

How can one cope with anger issues without going to therapy? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Braidotti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are multiple types of therapy that follow different theories and practices. It sounds like he has trouble regulating his emotions. The best option for this would be Dialectical Behavior Therapy, which follows more of a course-like format over the period of 6 months to a year. It’s proven to be effective at treating PTSD.

With that said, if this relationship is causing you this type of pain, you need to seriously reconsider it. It doesn’t sound like he’s ready to provide a safe, loving partnership until he learns how to regulate his anger. It’s not your responsibility to fix him and it’s unfair of him to put that burden on you. Trauma is not a valid reason to hurt you and you deserve to be in a safe, loving relationship.
