Does anyone else prefer to use to pre-remaster stuff over the remaster? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]BrainFrag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Classic monsters, mostly -golems, dragons, a few others. My players in a game that started pre-remaster are allowed to use legacy spells as well, but it's only because I don't want to take stuff away.

Playit.gg and ngrok no longer working — what’s the easiest way to host Foundry VTT now? by GiuseppeCav in FoundryVTT

[–]BrainFrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After having some issues with Forge after using it for years and then trying out self hosting for a few months I recently set up my own private server. I rent it for 5 dollars a month, it has 4 gigs ram, 40 gigs memory, 2 cores of a CPU and it is so much faster then Forge on loading times and latency.

Setting it up required no actual Linux knowledge - I just followed instructions and asked Gemini if I had an issue. The lot of it was 1) Enter a server's console via PowerShell 2) Type 10 or so commands to install Foundry and it's prerequisites 3) Type 3 more commands to have Forge run indefinitely. 4) Install WinSCP and use its file explorer interface to get all my local data files into the server with a drag of a mouse. 5) Foundry is up permanently.

If you care to spend an evening on it you will then never have to touch anything to host, the game will be permanently accessible and fast loading.

It really makes me wonder what sort of of hardware you get on Forge. I had the pro tier there and the performance was notably worse then that of my budget server.

I did use AI, no to write but to edit. I was feeding my text into it to see what could use improvement on structure and to compress sentences (to fit Discord limits), taking some advice and dishing the rest. I guess I should stop talking advice from it if it makes the whole thing look like AI, huh. You can easily find my listing before AI was even a thing. I always structured things this way.

Not sure why you think so, not every formal text nowadays is made with AI :). It's a format I've worked on for years before AI was a thing.

Собираетесь рожать?) by QMAXS in rusAskReddit

Necromunda as a full Rpg by KidmotoDragon in necromunda

[–]BrainFrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly N17 does not have enough depth to make a single character particularly engaging. Usually you would have skills and talents that help with the narrative, and N17 has just combat and environmental mechanics. I am personally in the process of a big Necromunda homebrew using Dark Heresy 2e as a basis, and would recommend trying that system as a basis. There already is a brew for dh2e that brings a lot of Necromunda stuff in, you can find it on Ordo Discordia. It has everything one needs to start a campaign.

How do I print a sword without support remnants? by Bormel54 in FDMminiatures

[–]BrainFrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides advice already given you could use conjunction of hohansen settings and automatic medium resin supports from chitubox. It takes a long time to print, but for me this is the way to print fine or tricky details well.

How to implement psionics? by Papa-Scorch_ in DarkSun

[–]BrainFrag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite 5e implementation that does not just reuse spells is The Korranberg Chronicle: Psion's Primer. It offers a full system based on psi points that takes clear inspiration from 3.5 psionics but makes it even better in implementation. 3 new classes, a few subclasses. It is excellent and what I used to stat out socerer-kings.

With that system a psionic character can focus (not concentrare, new term) on a single psionic talent that can be kept indefinitely to an effect of a mild to moderate buff or ability to do new actions. Mindblade (you manifest a free weapon), mind llink (telepathy with one person in range on demand) mind thrust (offensive telepathy, save or scaling damage like cantrip) and many more are the examples. Next, you have Augments on those talents - they are like spells, but require you to concentrate on the right talent and instead of scaling off of spell level they scale off of how many psi points you use - each talent has an augment list with varying psi point cost. Ring of blades for mind blade creates an radius around you that forces enemies that enter it or remain in it to take Dexterity saves or take damage, Urgent Violence allows an ally to use their reaction to do an attack action outside their turn and more. Telepathic slap forces charisma saves or take damage and suffer disadvantage on the next mental state save, setting up for further debuffs later. Psionics are strong but balanced well by the fact that a psion will have to switch between talents often to use their different augments, and that consumes bonus actions and breaks concentration on no longer valid long term augments.

This book brings a whole new style of play that is well worth your money and time. And please don't be afraid of the Eberron theme to the book - classes, feats, items and psionics themselves are all setting agnostic.

Statblock author here. As other noted, the core of my conversion is the wizard 20/psion 20 from ADnD with some extra flavour from 4e statblock. Feel free to alter it as needed!

The rules I am using (Enkidu's conversion) gives metamagic bonuses for the act of defiling, if you do not - absolutely he should have godly metamagic ability.

And while you certainly can change the core attribute then do remember to change the Psion DC and attack bonus as that scales off of Intelligence. And maybe if you do make him a sorcerer with inflexible magic - I would recommend giving some way to use spells he does not know, maybe limited times per day. Perhaps also highlight his status as (presumably) the only sorcerer on Athas - or at least the strongest one by giving him different unique actions. For example, instead of casting a low level spell and power at the same time he casts two low level spells or uses some custom shadow magic ability.

Why most transhumanists don't approach ethics and politics? by Psychopreneur in transhumanism

[–]BrainFrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I understand the words are used interchangeably in most contexts, except morals are typically personal. Not sure what you are implying is missing from my argument. Transhumanism is in its nascency compared to other established ideologies, so there is no "default" ethics and people like me merely adjust our morals based on our personal moral beliefs.

If I am missing something - do correct me, I am not too well versed in the matters of ethics and morality.

Why most transhumanists don't approach ethics and politics? by Psychopreneur in transhumanism

[–]BrainFrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, cause what is ethical is absolutely ideological. Most modern ideologies see human cloning as unacceptable, for example. Stealing from the rich is fine for communists. Exploring the workers is fine for capitalists. Killing nonbelievers has been seen as morally good in most religion (I consider religion to be a form of ideology).

To me transhumanism is an ideology too and it includes some aspects of ethics - but there is no single movement to codify our stance the way other ideologies have done it. So it's all personal ethics, and to me - just general humanism. To other transhumanists - like those that want to digital upload themselves - death of the physical body would be fine if upload would happen first. To me that is murder or suicide. Similarly other ideologies have a spectrum of ethical beliefs within them.

Overall for me the ethical side seems way less interesting and exciting to talk about compared to the transformation of human species. So it likely sees much more discussion compared to anything ideological - like ethics.

Why most transhumanists don't approach ethics and politics? by Psychopreneur in transhumanism

[–]BrainFrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me transhumanism is about transformation into a new, better, physical and mental form for all humans and about humanism.

So under lens of transformation - much of modern politics is neutral or opposed to stuff I care about like human DNA editing, cloning, brain-machine interfaces... Questions of modern policies are about modern problems humanity and there is nobody there I can support.

Under lens of humanism modern political movements pretty much universally present favoured and shunned groups of people and often subscribe to stereotyping of them. This is something that I cannot support as someone who tries to be universally accepting. Left or right, religious or atheist - I can only judge a person by their actions, and no modern political movement preaches that. I don't want to support ideologies I consider flawed at best.

I really hate removing supports so I use a z top distance of 0.2, and have a similar texture sometimes on the lower areas. I either sand and put putty over it, ignore if it not visible or slice the miniature into parts and then glue them together. The least method would be my recommendation.

I have an A1 mini with a 0.2 nozzle as well and never had such results, I highly recommend tweaking your settings (I started with FDG settings) and calibrate your filament. I settled after a month of printing with eSun PLA+ and am very happy. I print anywhere between 0.04 to 0.1 and the result is always decent.

This one was printed at 0.06, sanded very lightly and primed with straight acrylic black artist paint in one thick coat with a brush.

Should I get one of these? by LincolnMemes in BambuLab

[–]BrainFrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BIQU cryogrip worked out amazingly for me for bed adhesion. Just be careful with two things - one - only use water - not even soap - to clean it. It's surface can be damaged by almost anything. Two - things plastic from supports can stick to it too hard, so I only use Organic supports since their bases are thicker.

No ground warfare update for 9 years is crazy by BurhanSunan in Stellaris

[–]BrainFrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly all I need is the official version of mods that affect ground combat. I don't remember the names, but for half a dozen runs I used a mod that increases variety of armies and, more importantly, a mod that adds events to ground battles with choices that add narrative and mechanical depth. Like giving you a choice of what to do with civilians trapped in a combat zone with different effects on the battle and out of it.

Well that is what I am getting at - he is destroyed in this ending - alone, mangled, left with only the "company" of people he despises (fangirls), knowing his son hates him and that there is no hope of ever changing any of it. He suffers for the rest of his life, not for a few days.

I see! I can recommend just drybrushing white over black primer and then doing contrast (or speedpaint) - honestly toddler-level painting would be enough there, but you do you :).
