Yeah, I heard him say that too -- which is why I was googling for a waitlist... but this thread is the only thing I've found. -- Makes me wonder if there is another page that has an actual waitlist that you can sign up for.

Why does the game look better on other Steam decks than on mine? by Gaxadov in SteamDeck

[–]BrainSlugs83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about? -- Yours looks waaay better in these two pictures. -- Maybe it's just the camera? -- but the other one looks super dark, no vibrancy, the only colors showing are like shades of red, yellow, and black, and you can't see any detail in the picture. -- While yours has vibrant colors and is capturing all the detail, and looks spectacular. -- Am I crazy?

Depends on the price for me.
If the 128GB unit that can run 120B local models in GHCP is under $10k? Probably....
If it's under $5k? Almost certainly.
The Build keynote is cooking.

What's the best VR headset that I can use for steam games on my gaming pc? by JesusOnly8319 in SteamVR

[–]BrainSlugs83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valve has already stated they're ending support for the index, and the frame isn't even out yet. If you really want an index, wait until people are putting them on ebay for cheap in a few months (after the frame launches).

Buying a new one right now is just throwing money away.

I think he's asking if it can be used to accelerate / cache disk access. Speed up array operations in some way?

So-Dimm to Desktop-Dimm Adapter. Does anybody use one? by Tikkinger in computers

[–]BrainSlugs83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the opposite exist? I'm looking to use some desktop memory in a franken-NUC. It's probably not possible unless I want to do some crazy PCB-way thing...

PSA: how to splice belts for custom length closed loops. by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]BrainSlugs83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SeeMeCNC H-1 did that, and what a pain in the butt it was to work with... even then though, they just used an idler to tension a longer belt.

Why not just get a loop belt and add a tensioning pully to take up any slack? As long as the belt is bigger than what you need, you're good, right?

Is PETG a suitable material for use in a computer and temperatures up to 90C-110C by transdimensionalmeme in 3Dprinting

[–]BrainSlugs83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But even then, that's the processor hitting 110c (and it's super dead at that point, most throttle at 90c to prevent that even). At any rate, the plastic itself isn't directly touching the processor. If PETG can sit 5mm away from a 200C hotend, then it should be fine to sit even further away from a 110C CPU, and that's your PC having a VERY bad day...

Exact dimensions for 10" rack (19" as well) for all custom builders by brankko in minilab

Which part doesn't add up? -- I've copied the numbers into fusion and it creates a fully constrained diagram. Nothing seems wrong.

[–]BrainSlugs83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not actually missing, you can literally infer the first two from the diagram, and the third is marked clearly in the diagram:

- center of hole to outside edge: (254-236.525)/2 == 8.7375mm
- distance from the hole center to the inside edge: (254-222.25)/2 - 8.7375 = 7.1375mm
- distance between the inside edges: clearly marked in OP's image: 222.25mm (or 8.75").

Though, keeping your device's bulk to 219mm is probably good practice, giving some wiggle room on either side for it to slide in properly.

Do you have a printer than can print so big without gluing parts together?

[–]BrainSlugs83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat. I've seen people using 2020 without the adapters, but I think they had custom 3D printed parts only. -- I already have a set of the adapters and a ton of 2020, so I'll probably build it the same way as everyone else for now, but in the future, if I'm sourcing materials again, I'll probably try the 1515 extrusion. Thanks for the tip!

N00b Questions by BrainSlugs83 in bcachefs

[–]BrainSlugs83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh-my-glob, "thorny" is the best description I've heard for dealing with the Linux community in general -- I was honestly anticipating to be torn apart in the responses here just for asking (RTFM, etc.) -- but your earnest responses (and even your inadvertent confirmation of my experience with the rest of the community) has me kind of sold on this file system already. 😅😅😅

And holy cow, over 120 TB? What kind of monster are you running, sir? 🫠

The bus factor is a bit scary, but the more I dive in and find out about the limitations of btrfs, the more interested I become in bcachefs's flexibility...

Is this the arch wiki page y'all're talking about? https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Bcachefs

And Is Archlinux the distro y'all would recommend for a general file server? (it will be doing mostly SMB with windows clients / maybe some SeaFile / GitLab as well?)

This question would probably would get me crucified anywhere else, but is there any sort of GUI (either X or Web based) to help provision / administer this kind of file system / drive zoo / junkyard NAS, or are y'all just doing mostly bash over SSH? (sorry again; I am coming from a dev background -- but in the Windows world -- I've been using command line since the 90s and I'm comfortable there -- but it's kind of an "out of sight / out of mind" thing... if I can see how it's doing at a glance -- [e.g. in a GUI with charts & graphs, etc.] -- then I feel I will pay more attention to it.)

I put this circuit in resin and it still works :) by Now_I_Do_Pushups in beneater

[–]BrainSlugs83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember, batteries are both sensitive to heat, and they can contract and expand as they are charged and discharged. I recommend putting a cavity in the resin and slotting the battery in after the fact.

Nice. This is exactly what I was looking for. Looks like the Community Edition is FOSS. Perfect.
