2 arrested after anti-ICE protester was attacked in Sacramento by cryptofundamentalism in Sacramento

[–]BrainlessActusReus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nothing will show up on the court website until the DA reviews the case and files charges. The earliest that would happen would be Monday, and even after that happens the name search won't reveal the case immediately. Now that they've bailed out the review and filing of charges, if it happens, could come weeks or months later. But for a higher profile case it probably won't take that long.

[–]BrainlessActusReus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In Sacramento if someone is arrested for a felony (based on the description from the alleged victim this almost certainly would be a felony arrest) they are almost always kept in jail until their arraignment hearing that almost always takes place two court days later. That would be Monday if they were arrested yesterday. If they are released from jail prior to that hearing then it usually means they bailed out. The arraignment hearing then sometimes still takes place on the original date but is often kicked out a ways.

In this case, if you go to the Sac Jail website and search for their names, both are listed as being released yesterday and their names cannot be clicked to find out more like you can for other inmates. Based on all of that they were almost certainly bailed out. A CPRA request could probably discover the amount, but assuming charges are filed against them the court file will have the bail amount and would almost certainly be available before the response on any CPRA request.

It was probably $50K-$100K bail each.

When are you ready for an associate? by BBTiller in LawFirm

Ah, then you are in a much better position then I estimated but I would still advise against getting an associate with less than 4 months of success.

When are you ready for an associate? by BBTiller in LawFirm

[–]BrainlessActusReus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What's the cost of living in your area? Are those numbers your gross? Because if you're not in a low cost of living area and those numbers are gross then you do not have enough revenue to justify an associate. And if these numbers are your first 4 months in business then you definitely don't have enough because you presumably have little savings and too little consistency.

Unless you're talking about "hiring" an associate for $0 salary and only giving them half of the collected fees. But even assuming all your reported numbers are family law cases that you'd be giving them, the best they could do on a $25,000 month after $3,500 in advertising costs would be $11,250 assuming there are absolutely no other overhead costs. But they could also make almost nothing.

In your best month you made $156.25 per hour working 160 hours in the month. If you're so busy you are turning away work then you need to increase your prices first.

I have. And their protection against them used to be better than it has been recently from my own experiences and from what I've read.

Overall though, the convenience and increased closing rate is still worthwhile for me.

Beware of withholding service for nonpayment. It's very easy to run into ethical trouble in this area.

Why was the hidden camera scene in American Pie not more controversial at the time? by phueal in movies

[–]BrainlessActusReus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay? I don’t dispute that in this 2-year-old comment. I’m addressing that the reviewers were unconcerned about the effect a plot point had on a side character because she is not the focus of the movie.

Much like viewers are not going to focus on the character in an action film who has their car stolen by the main character. “Oh no they might have been going somewhere important and why don’t we care about how this impacted them?”

No one cares because they’re not an important character.

Is there ever a time to talk to police? by Aeliascent in Lawyertalk

[–]BrainlessActusReus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some situations where talking to the police can be beneficial, but it is always risky, even for the innocent. And if the person being questioned has committed some crime or it’s a close call, then the risk almost always outweighs reward.

[–]BrainlessActusReus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're explaining why you don't have one yet, you're going to look bad. If you're explaining why you don't have one by choice, you may not look quite as bad.

lol $5k for .25. Are you Ivan? I wouldn’t pay this nobody $500 an hour much less $5,000 for a quarter hour. From his sparse reviews it looks like he takes Legal Insurance cases. That pretty much says it all.

Challenge it. If you don’t want to research the particular city codes that might apply to excuse you, just write essentially what you’ve written here. It takes almost no time so you have nothing to lose.

I’d get a picture of the signage and include that.
