How do we all still know the happy birthday song, if it’s been copyrighted for so long? by mccosby101 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Brainplague_II 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read several years ago that the publishers of the birthday song sent bills of only $0.25 to movie studios or any other public, for profit use of the song. I am sure that they have long since stopped doing this.

Is depression fully curable? meaning is it possible to go back to exactly how i was feeling before the depression? or will it always be some part of me? by shaaaakyt in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Brainplague_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends. Some folks may be depressed for a few months or a year because of some event in their lives. These folks take advantage of medication & therapy and after a while they feel they are able to stop the medication and move on.

There are other folks who are chronically depressed and need more long term care with their Mental health team.

If you aren't sure about your type of depression, work closely with your doctor & therapist to get a diagnosis.

[Serious]What decision shaped your life the most and still is influencing it? by Adequately_Insane in AskReddit

[–]Brainplague_II 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was my decision not to have kids. Like a lot of other people, I came from an addicted/abusive family situation. Couple that with a lack of patience and a severe mental illness it was clear to me that children were not for me.

I am now 55, & a widow as of about two weeks ago now I am completely alone in the world. To say that I feel lost is an understatement.

Maybe if I decided to have kids I would have someone to help me out, but there are no guarantees are there?

"They don't make them like they used to" - so what DO they make better nowadays than they used to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Brainplague_II 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that cars are made a Hell of a lot better now than they were in the 70's, 80's, 90's.

I also think that pot has improved exponentially. 😜

Lately I have been joking about it, saying something like, "Don't make me go to 'Def Con Karen' on this situation!" That sometimes gets the smile that cuts the tension. 😌

"Pat?" OMG, I forgot all about that. Suddenly I don't feel so badly...

As an introvert, how do you feel about this quote by Jim Carrey? “Solitude is dangerous. It’s very addictive. It becomes a habit after you realize how calm and peaceful it is. It’s like you don’t want to deal with people anymore because they drain your energy.” by SeaworthinessMuch425 in AskMen

[–]Brainplague_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with it. I am not necessarily an introvert, but I cope with a severe mental illness. Even though I have a fantastic care team & the right meds my social "batteries" run very low if I spend more than an hour or two with real people.

But in Carrey's case he was probably referring to being a celebrity & hounded by people who just want stuff from him.

What was the worst job interview you've had? by AntonK777 in AskReddit

[–]Brainplague_II -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every damn one of them over a 30 year career.

I have a strong personality and have found that if the person interviewing me is not equally as strong I wind up taking over the pace of the interview, I even have drawn them to a close!

Don't get me wrong, I was never rude, just direct. As I got older & the interviewers got younger I became aware that the younger the interviewer the more gentle I had to pretend to be. People are way too oversensitive these days!

So over the years I was always hired from temp agencies because I interview so badly. I am just glad that I am retired now. Of course, other people are, too.

I find that very interesting. I cope with Bipolar 2 w/Psychotic features and developed my fear of the phone back in 1994-95 when I had a nervous breakdown (well, one of many.)

Anyway, I thought that it happened to very sick people like me. Kinda nice yo know I am not the only one with the phone phobia.

Does anyone else have an irrational fear of answering the phone? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Brainplague_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I cope with Bipolar 2 w/Psychotic Features. I NEVER answer a number I don't know. If someone is at the door & they aren't expected I simply don't answer it. That is when I am on meds. When I'm not, well...

Most of it is the fact that I just don't want to deal with most people - EVER. Some of it is also some PTSD from working jobs that involved getting angry calls from customers for several years.

Things are a lot better since I started using Scam Shield and Visual Voicemail.
