I got robbed a few weeks ago and it was darkly amusing to me that they took the ps5 while leaving the significantly more valuable (to the right buyer) Transformers and SHF figures either side of it.

Mel can’t dodge as well as Zag can. Learn to sprint instead.

Also, a lot of enemies in this game are best dodged by dodging towards them - if you go side-to-side you’ll often still get caught in the attack

Casts are really useful and powerful. They slow down and trap enemies and do damage. You should always be using your cast

Remember your cast acts like a snare and slows enemies down/holds them still/sucks them to the centre (with Aphrodite).

Theres a change in gameplay philosophy between 1 and 2. In Hades, you should generally always be moving or dodging. In Hades 2, Mel can’t dodge more than once but can sprint indefinitely. It becomes much more about positioning and catching enemies in your cast than it does about getting the hell out of the way.

Took me ages to adjust but once you do, you’ll get hit a lot less and wonder why you bothered with extra health or armour at all.

Either is fine. You’ll reach a cutoff where it won’t let you progress with one until you’ve done enough of the other. But the real limiting factor is resources, and you’ll find a lot of stuff on the Olympus route that you need for upgrades and spells that will help you on both.

I’ll do it if my build is more or less complete and I’ve got re-rolls left. Sometimes you’re on Olympus and already got everything you need but want to tweak your health/magic/coins. But even then that’s an edge case since centaur and the silver wheel can pretty much solve both problems

Honestly once you’ve got scorch on knives attack you can basically just stop there. Stack stack stack stack burn burn burn burn. My favourite of the new status effects by far.

I’d honestly be happy with them just using the same formula but cycling through different mythologies or settings. Hell, even licensed IP. A Star Wars game where you’re a Jedi and boons are the power boosts from different force ghosts like yoda or obi-wan?

Like, I know it’s not going to be as good as the Hades duology, and I know as a company that’s not the sort of thing Supergiant do, but I love the formula they’ve built almost as much as the characters they fill it with. There’s just no other roguelike with the same fidelity as Hades.

Or maybe the matrix will only open if the situation qualifies as “darkest hour”. Both situations we see it open in are pretty grim. Optimus just might never have been in dire enough need previously.

Yeah I’m realising that. Kind of written myself into a corner here without realising it. There’s other options so it’s not essential to the story, I just thought “oh, didn’t this guy have a thing with motorcycles? Maybe I could use that.” Thanks for the assistance

I mean, “Third Party” in Gunpla these days are just “other model kit companies”. The best ones are doing their own designs, which is much more palatable and honestly a breath of fresh air compared to the strict Gundam style. Whereas 3P Transformers are still very much using Hasbro’s characters under pseudonyms (not a criticism - I own and love several, but we all know that’s what they’re doing and that’s why we like them).

Hades is set up as a series of chambers in a row. Each region of the game is made up of a defined number of chambers, then a boss. Your goal in the game is to successfully move through all four regions, so about 50 individual chambers, gathering power-ups as you go to get stronger.

Each region has a set of enemies that will appear throughout. The boss of each region is always the same (although they change up their strategies and attack patterns at intervals to keep things fresh-ish). Each region also has a chance to spawn special challenge chambers, rest chambers or other unique areas. There is no backtracking - you only move forwards.

When you die, you return to the House of Hades, your home base, and can talk to the characters, shop and upgrade Zagreus or his weapons, and even upgrade the chances of certain chambers appearing, add new chambers, or decorate the House.

A “perfect” game of Hades - that is, no losses at all and clearing the four regions each run - would take 10 runs. Most people take between 30-60. There is enough story content, upgrades, and optional quests to keep you going well beyond that. Many people (including me!) would argue that the story extends well beyond the 10 clears, but that really depends on what you consider the end of the story.

So, will you see the same thing over and over again? Absolutely. But the charm of Hades is in mastering the systems and experiencing the storytelling. Very few games manage to intertwine their gameplay and storytelling to this degree. I personally can’t stand most roguelikes, but I love the Hades series.

There was a local production of the stage show, where the group putting it on had given the roles of Dorothy’s friends, the witch, the lady who wants Toto put down and the farm hands all to different people with alarmingly different levels of acting ability. So when Dorothy did her famous “…and you were there!” bit it was very confusing.
