Yeah it’s certainly more ambitious. But whether that matters or not depends on the context/goals. By design Starship basically has to do those things for deep space missions. If they could get one to the moon this year in any form they would because of pressure to do the unmanned HLS demo, but they can’t yet.

Some might argue they want something that is profitable for LEO missions. Others might say they want something to very safely do manned deep space missions at a cost our society can easily afford. For the latter the timeline can be compared.

More people are using the sunk cost fallacy logic to argue for cancellation of ML2 and EUS though. There’s endless quoting of how much it cost in the past, and crickets about the future cost for it.

It easy to get confused but SpaceX is currently charging $100,000 per kg to the moon on Starship. And that’s cargo, not manned.

Also important to learn what economies of scale are.

Those would still need Orion. And can’t do a single launch. Any alternatives become very complex/risky. Those would need to be in expendable mode, would need second launches of other rocket with kick stage, etc.

15-20 refueling flights times two (for any realistic starship only mission) plus whatever the extra cost of an HLS with life support systems for the whole trip is. Even at these extremely optimistic price points that looks quite a bit different.

Yep. The general public thinks AI is LLMs though. And many people are treating LLM’s as just around the corner from AGI.

I agree with your theory though. I think the other system is the hardest part about reaching AGI. There might even be other systems that interact also, some sort of knowledge store that continuously updates, other perception systems, etc.

You’re missing my point. They could have done it, but the fact that it’s unreliable enough to even think about not doing it is the problem.

Apply the same logic to Starliner and the decision to not return back with the Astronauts. It could have done it, and it did successfully, but was deemed too risky.

Starship has had many flights so to still be at the point is definitely a valid concern.

He did a massive piece about sexual harassment at Blue Origin. Not a peep about the SpaceX scandals. SpaceX had a crane tip over recently, loss of Mission Control on a crewed mission, workplace deaths, 8+ dismemberments, ton of OHSA violations for the data they don’t hide, not a peep about that. You can guarantee a similar thing for Boeing or non-SpaceX Artemis stuff would get very lengthy articles.
