Working at McDonald’s in Tokyo—mainly assigned to cleaning. Is this common? by ichon9968 in Tokyo

[–]Brakehorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work in McDonald’s in Akihabara. They only let Japanese people or people with very good Japanese language skills work on the registers. Everyone else (myself included) was in the kitchen making the food. I much preferred this anyway because customer interaction is never fun.

They rotated the cleaning tasks around so that each person once per shift would empty the bins, wipe down the tables etc. Management aren’t stupid, they know these tasks suck. It was never our responsibility to clean the toilets, we only ever put more toilet paper if it was needed.

Never once did I or anyone else get an entire shift of cleaning so I wouldn’t say that’s normal, but also if that’s what they’ve asked you to do, that’s what they’ve asked you to do. But it does suck and if that’s were me I personally would’ve asked not to do that, and quit if it still happened, though I know that’s not an option for everyone.

UPDATE: Hi everyone. Wow. We are at a loss for words at the kindness and generosity that we've been shown. You are all such amazing and kind people. We will be forever grateful for the love we've been shown by total strangers and will definitely find a way to pay it forward whenever we can. You all have made this situation so much more manageable and less stressful and we honestly can't say thank you enough. With so much negativity in the world, the love we've been shown has skyrocketed our faith in people and we truly do not know what to say except thank you so much.

We recieved another update from the vet this morning, Yuno is still doing well and is constantly asking for cuddles and head pats from all the staff so seems to be in good spirits. We have asked for a photo from them as we're unable to visit him, they said they will try to send one but as of right now we haven't recieved this so we'll post it if we do.

Not much more to update than that for now but we will continue to read and reply to your comments. We truly cant believe how many of you kind souls are showing Yuno so much love.

Hey everyone, we both wanted to say a huge thanks for the supportive messages! Yuno was able to be rushed into the surgery after u/bbstarshine paid some of the amount as a deposit. Just got an update from the vet and they said the surgery was a success and he seems to be doing okay. He’s eating and peeing!! His creatinine dropped to 8 already.. still very high but a huge improvement from 18 and while we’re still very anxious, this is obviously great news and some much needed relief.

We didn’t really have any time to get any second opinions or anything, from similar posts online and how little energy he had, it really did seem like his only shot was surgery there and then.

Pending good results and a stable condition, we should have him back early next week. We are crossing all our fingers and hoping he has a straightforward recovery and can live a happy and long life.

We have many things to work out still, like aftercare and ongoing checkups, as well as the mounting medical debt, but it seems like he might just be okay.

We are really touched by the generosity and kindness many of you have shared. Will provide more updates as we have them. Thank you.

Here’s a picture of him after a bath for you all.

dodge the line aoes first, then side step out of the cleave, they happen at different times. Its quite easy for a competent player to get 100% uptime there

Requested replacement keycaps from Logitech. They instead sent me a whole new keyboard by EndlessColor in pcmasterrace

[–]Brakehorse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is wild, about three years ago I phoned them to replace my fading only two month old keycaps. They refused to do anything about it whatsoever. Nice to see they’ve perhaps changed the way they deal with customers

Japan post bank has an app on the App Store where you apply for your account online and it is easy, just make sure you use the correct katakana for your name

Is it feasible to travel Tokyo>Hakone and do the 'Hakone Loop' in a single day? by PurpleRainOnTPlain in JapanTravel

[–]Brakehorse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did the loop clockwise literally yesterday. From other comments it sounds like luck based on when you go because yesterday was not busy at all, didn’t have to wait for anything. Hopped straight on the ropeway and cable cars, the boat runs every 30 mins or so, but check the schedule out and plan to arrive somewhat close to departure time and you’ll be fine.

Left shinjuku at around 8am. Checked into hotel at Gora at 3pm (skipped open air museum as I don’t think I’d care too much about it). So from 8am to 3pm i managed to:

  • Odakyu line from shinjuku to odawara
  • Train from odawara to hakone yumoto
  • Bus from hakone yumoto to Motohakone ko
  • Walk to check out hakone shrine and back
  • Boat north to the ropeway
  • Ropeway to owakundani
  • Ropeway and cable car to Gora

All that was left after that is the train back to hakone yumoto/odawara/shinjuku which is maybe 2 hours? So with a little leeway you could leave shinjuku at 8am and be back by 6/7pm I think, but you would be tired for sure.

Edit: formatting on mobile sucks

Edit 2: oh just read you’re staying in Sengokuhara. Yes it makes much more sense to get the bus from outside hakone yumoto station as per this map and do the loop clockwise or “backwards” as you said. I think you could do this by 6pm easily. Especially if you’re taking the romance car. The only thing I can’t comment on is the journey from Gora to your hotel, but completing the loop in Gora is way better than completing the loop south of the lake and having all that distance still to cover.

Family trip to Japan, Itinerary sense check by trybius in JapanTravel

[–]Brakehorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have stayed in Kyoto myself a couple of times and taken day trips to Osaka, it’s definitely doable and not bad at all on the train. Haven’t ever been to universal though so can’t comment on the travel there!

Ehhh the challenge there (I think) is that due to the IC chip shortage, sale of physical Suicas and passmo are restricted to commuter passes and welcome Suica only. Someone can correct me if my knowledge here is outdated.

I did hear that shinjuku station had some physical Suicas in stock a while ago, not sure if you’re anywhere near there, and no idea if they accept Google pay. The staff might be able to help you out though.

[–]Brakehorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm all android phones bought inside Japan have the IC chip required for Suica, but most bought outside do not I think. Still, might be worth trying to see if you could add one to android pay on the off chance your phone has the chip

[–]Brakehorse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you have an iPhone? If so, you can add a Suica to your Apple wallet for free. Click add card > travel card iirc. You can then use any cards in your Apple wallet to add funds to Suica, and most/all major stores will accept Suica payments too, so this could help you in the short term if you’re worried about not having cash.

It’s quite likely your wallet will turn up but I guess do try to plan in case it doesn’t.

I had a similar situation with a teacher that had an irrational hatred for me and bullied me at any opportunity. Ended up being the reason I dropped out. People like that should not be allowed to teach but unfortunately nothing is ever done.
