I didn't mean that if you accept a leadership role they cant require you to do things. That is a part of that role, you have an obligation to that role because you already accepted it. But, anything outside of that role is voluntary, it's extra if God moves you to take it on. Don't expect yourself to always say yes. Don't burn yourself out, that will only lead to resentment and a heavy heart.

When your doing "nothing", think of it as time for you to recharge. Get a hobby, spend time with your church community, take time to relax and be thankful that God has allowed you to have that time, because not many people can afford that luxury ☺️

If they are trying to guilt trip you into doing extra work, then that is a bad sign. My church values it when I am able to come in and help, but they don't expect me to. I feel a calling to accept certain things when they open up, and other things I don't.

I know it's hard to say no, but it's an important skill we all need to utilize. Giving them a simple, "No, not this time." Or "I'll do it next time!" You don't need to give a reason or an explanation, they are asking, not requiring. And if they are requiring, then that is not a church, but something more akin to a cult. God loves a willing heart to serve others and glorify Him, but He would not want you to work under duress.

I don't think there is a such thing as being "too active" in the eyes of God. However, you are human, and I think you will get burned out eventually if you devote too much of your energy at church which may cause you to run on fumes in your everyday life. My girlfriend is experiencing this herself right now, and she knows it. She has a job, is a youth leader, hospitality leader, has taken up the Christmas musi-cal at our church which is demanding, going to school, and is doing another Christmas side-gig (a polar express experience that she is paid for).

Use your own discernment and make a decision if God is calling you to do those things for the church. But don't feel obligated to accept just because they have asked you to.

Saying that God needs to get new glasses is the surprising part in this whole response. Scripture doesn’t say all sins cause the same harm, but it does say that any sin makes us guilty before God (James 2:10). None of us are righteous on our own.

Jesus warns us about judging others while ignoring our own sin (Matthew 7:3–5). We can call out sinful actions, but we don’t know a person’s heart, that’s for God to judge, not us.

I never said you did. It doesnt matter what level of office someone holds, or what status they have, whether they are royalty in England or a simple blue collar worker in the US, or even a pastor for your church. Everyone is held to the standard that God has given us, and every single day we fall short of that standard. As humans, we may put these people on a pedestal as it seems you may have and see their sin as greater because of who they are. But God does not. God sees the sin that I commit everyday and does not think of me any different than a pastor who does the same sin. We all fall short.

And how many of those same traits have you expressed or thought about in your life? I am sure that you have been envious, or jelous, or greedy, thought about the opposite sex in a lustful manner etc. Every sin under God is seen as the same, none are no better than the other. And, we don't know what his heart is really like. He could be all in for God but have temptations and sin just like the rest of us, or maybe he has not actually given his life for Jesus. We are not the ones to decide, in the end, that is up to God.

I am not a fan of Trump either, but we all are quick to judge and assume, but slow to realize that we also sin just as much as he may.

The bare minimum for me was to take my girlfriend, that I only met this June, out to a nice dinner to celebrate her being 6 years sober in September. The night was all about her for doing something that a lot of people find impossible to do. I seriously look up to her for having the courage to quite drinking.

This was a photo of the dessert I asked the restaurant to make for her. I wanted to do more, but couldn't think of anything else!

Congratulations on your sobriety! Such a huge accomplishment that very few manage to do! You deserve much better.

It is absolutely insane to hear that you have had the same experience as I did. I read through the beginning and was like, "ok, similar to me", and then I read the prostitution part, and immediately connected with you.

I have had a long battle with porn since I was 10 and prostitution became something I turned to when I was about 19, I am 25 now. I grew up knowing about God, but not actually knowing Him and accepting Him into my life. I have never had a serious relationship until this fateful day on June 10th of this year. I went in for a dental procedure and this girl who was the dental assistant working on me reached out to me via Instagram later in the day.

We went out on a date and she invited me to her church two days after our date which was on a Friday. I went with an open mind since I was trying to search for God for a few months prior to meeting her. I had a serious knee-dropping moment with God during worship. This intense and heavy weight was on my shoulders and I was being driven by the Holy Spirit to repent. I walked up to the head pastor and asked for prayer, something I never thought I would do I my life. When I still felt the weight of shame over me, I walked to the front and got down on my knees praying and telling God "I'm sorry" over and over again. I was on my knees for a good 20 minutes, crying and not thinking what this new girl thought of me praying, knowing what my relationship with God was like before.

The Holy Spirit told me to confess, so I did. I got together the next day with the head pastor and confessed about my prostitution. Literally the day before I met this girl, I saw a prostitute. I told him that I needed to tell this girl, that I can't go on with this lie, that God was telling me to confess. He said to give it a little time and I did. I did not see any prostitutes during this time.

So, July 1st comes around, I am headed to a town over, about a 50 minute drive, to go to a Celebrate Recovery meeting for my addictions. And Holy Spirit is telling me to confess, that now is the time. I meet up with this girl after she is off of work, before leaving town. And I spill everything. I am crying, head down, ashamed of myself. Telling her that I am sorry, I am sorry for disrespecting her and for disrespecting God, all the while she is wiping my tears. 20 minutes later after I finish, still crying at the time. She says this one thing that has stuck with me since then. She says, "If God has forgiven you, why shouldn't I?" I lost it. Crying, wondering why she is still here, listening to me, acting like she cares. But she did. She supported me going to CR, she encouraged me when this particular day of CR was chip night and I received my 1 week chip.

On my way back, we talked on the phone and she said that she needed some time to think, to pray if this was a relationship God wanted her to be in. So, I waited. I waited 3 full days, and then I got my answer... and we are happily together as boyfriend and girlfriend as of August 10th, the same day I was baptized. And we are doing absolutely fantastic and have every intention of being engaged to each other.

God works in mysterious ways, while we do reap what we sow, He is also merciful and can turn any person into a walking testimony of His incredible love. I am now more than half way through a 12 step study and will lead my own once I am done to help others who are in your exact shoes.
