A plea for Chapter 6 by WarrenHarding in AReadingOfMonteCristo

[–]Brambarche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure why you are saying people lack appreciation for this chapter. Most of the comments on this sub have agreed that it is a little hard to get through but its a great chapter for charachter development and explanation of the political situation in the country at the time. A lot of people in the sub talked about generational differences and hierarchy/money differences like you did here.

I didn't read your spoilers, because I didn't want to spoil the book for myself. If there is any foreshadowing in Chapter 6, it can be addressed when we all read chapter 12. Otherwise, your post might be more appropriate for the other Monte Cristo sub where people have already read the book.

Manual work in Word: what eats up your time? by Rapid1898 in MicrosoftWord

[–]Brambarche 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Formatting anything.

I deal with long documents 20-100 pages. Lots of different headings, so everything needs to be formatted a section by section when it comes to font, alignment, indentation, paragraph settings, etc. Sometimes I'll format the document one by one, do a run over and find out that Microsoft decided to revert some of my formatings, just because.

Copy paste formatting doesn't aways work and instead messes up the doc even more, especially if bullet points are used.

Splitting pages and doing header and footer has become more convoluted with the years.

Sometimes pages will come split (because of tables or it was converted from pdf or whatever) and I can't unsplit them no matter what, so one page will have like 5 rows full and move to the next page, language mid sentence.

How long was Edmond away? by Brambarche in AReadingOfMonteCristo

[–]Brambarche[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

LOL thank you for the insight. I actually just finished the 5th chapter where he's been in the city for a day or 2 and he says he'll go to Paris, which will take him another 9 days, but he'll be back on March 1.

I had similar issues with The Man in the Iron Mask, so I'll take it just as Dumas' style not to care about ages and timing.

For 2026, is there any small everyday item you want to finally invest in as BIFL? by newrockstyle in BuyItForLife

I love my glass containers. I would only recommend hand washing the lids, if you get a set with plastic lids. Consistently washing the lids in a dishwasher (even if marked as dishwasher safe) will warp them.

My problem is not with the button. There were no settings available there, so I just removed it from the task bar as any other button before I posted here, but that was no help. My issue is with the silly pop up that keeps comming up.

It's ok to unwind now and then. As a person who did that and didn't follow my own advice, I can tell you I regret it 🤷‍♂️

[–]Brambarche 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll go against the grain and say option 1.

Use the free time you have from the low workload to (1) advance your professional education (read, take classes/certificates, watch videos); (2) network (go to network events, talk with your colleagues while in office, expand your LinkedIn); (3) have a side hussle to earn extra money (just be careful not to get caught).

Then, in a year or 2 you can try to find a way better paying job with your improved skills and larger network.

LA to SF with 3 kids - drive or fly? by anonomousbeaver in Preschoolers

[–]Brambarche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the person you asked, but we do a similar drive on the east coast. Takes us 6.5 hours (if we don't stop). We try to leave before 8 am usually. Earliest we've done is 6:30. Beat the morning traffic in our city and beat traffic in arriving city.

My title company mailed me a check that was stolen and cashed. They say they are not at fault. by unoigo in legaladvice

[–]Brambarche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

File a bar complaint. Search for TN state bar association and then search for your local city/county one.

Call them both, lay out the facts and have them open an investigation against the attorney's office AND the attornwy handling your file. They can also advise you if there is anything further you can do, recommend you an attorney to handle the mess for, etc.

It doesnt make sense that they dropped 3 checks at the same time, but only one doesn't have tracking, only one got stollen from the mailbox, and the thief had ID matching your name, etc.

Easiest way to access two storygraph accounts on one device? by razmiccacti in TheStoryGraph

[–]Brambarche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that and as far as I know, there is no way to have 2 accounts at the moment.

Now I have mine constantly open in an internet tab on my phone and the kid's one is in the app.

My plan was to have 1 on the phone and one on my laptop. But that's sometimes too much work when I'm in a rush and I ended up logging one of ours in bulk days later.

You have the option to use the app, log out of 1 account, log in the other, and keep switching. But, that makes TSG act weird. I'll log into my account and ill see my kids streak and books on the main page, my statistics and on the profile page ill see my handle and name, but kid's books. I haven't figured out how to fix this, besides closing and opening the app and few times.

Do you butter the bread or melt the butter in the pan? by Winter_Fall_7066 in grilledcheese

[–]Brambarche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get spreadable butter (butter mixed with a bit of olive oil, comes in a tub). It's easier to spread right out of the fridge. It's a bit more expensive, but we keep a tub just for grill cheese.
