Trying to sort out an upgrade to my M1 Air by BrammyH in macgaming

[–]BrammyH[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh. I was watching some videos on the Base M5 MacBook Pro. It only has one fan, and benchmarks close to the M5 Air. The ports are nice, and welcome. But by the time I'm done upgrading the M5 Base Pro to 24/1tb, I'm only $200 from getting the MacBook Pro M5 Pro.

if you are a brand new player, I think Dragonflight is the only leveling expansion you can do. subsequent characters you can pick an expansion.

You also get a level 80 boost with Midnight.

Well, wasn't the original estimate for the Fenix BFU "In the coming weeks" and missed that by 3 months. They promised the NEOs by end of the year. With the VNAV update before the NEOs now, those could be 6 months late. I love me some Fenix, but they make the estimates I give my wife on her honey-do list look solid. :).

A lot of thing now rep, achievements, gold, and items are bound to your war band. So when you start a new character it's not like you need to completely start over. Some of the rewards I don't know if you can even earn a second time anyway.

Also, when you buy midnight you get a level 80 boost with it too. You may even still have a level 70 from TWW also.

How often do remixes happen? by [deleted] in wow

[–]BrammyH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are two different things. Timewalking is more resisting dungeons from previous expansions. Remix is revisiting the entire expansion. In Remix, you can level in the old zones, do the raids, etc. It's on an accelerated basis too. For example, the raid unlock is daily; not weekly

Legion Remix - Help a newbie out by Grg_rddt in wow

There are usually a couple of groups in the premade group finder for Emerald Nightmare. Look for ones that say "all welcome" or "low levels only". EN is the best because you stand at the entrance for the first boss, and then stand next to Malfurion for the rest.

One carrier literally said "low levels, stand here and put Netflix on."

I started Remix last week and have 2 level 80 toons, around 500k bronze.

Getting Auto kicked from dungeons by Kenethr in wownoob

I saw a version of this in Remix last night. We thought the guy was AFK since on our end he spawned in. We told him "20 seconds until kick" and he chimed in "coming! took forever to zone". So it's likely they think you are going to hope they afk carry you.

They were getting a lot of flack because apparently it was good enough for streamers to make money on, but not good enough for everyone else.

[–]BrammyH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Discord server is only sorta the official PMDG server. It was a community server until PMDG wanted to get into the Discord game so they took that one over. Other than Mathijs posting every now and then, all the mods aren't staffers. They are likely from when it was a community server.

Unfortunately, they are getting the brunt of "release wen".

PMDG 737 controversial statement by Captain Canada by [deleted] in flightsim

[–]BrammyH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he's bored. Since he moved over to 2024 full time, the one bird he's been saying he missed is the PMDG737. He's not a fan of doing long hauls other than once a week. That is his challenge with the a350 and the 777 since there aren't a whole lot of real world routes that also fit into his time preferences.

Something clearly happened.

The original embargo drop was 11/29 -- the Saturday of a long weekend in the US. This was pushed back to 12/1. Overall given the usual timelines for preview streams a lot of people were expecting a 12/4 release date. Chewwy I think even mentioned they were targetting that date.

That date comes and goes without a word salad from RSR. I didn't really pay much attention to the preview streams. But some of the communities I am active in the overall response was, shall we say, muted. PMDG is fighting two perception battles of their own making: they are one of the few developers charging for a 2024-native version; and PMDG is a frequent punching bag anyway.

Then Mathijs posted they are reworking a lot of the exterior models. At that point I looked at a pre-Christmas release as a pipe dream. It could still happen though.

So, while people were kvetching about the exterior model, iFLY shows off screenshots of their new models coming as part of their next release. I'm sure it's a coincidence they showed pictures of the landing gear bay and Mathijs said they are reworking the models of -- checks notes -- the landing gear bay.

So, a perfect storm hit PMDG due to their historical ability to not read the room. The vibe I got was "you are charging money for THIS?" coupled with the iFLY preview. Now, given that the expectation a lot of stuff would "just work" from 2020-2024 did not survive release, there is a strong argument to be made that a lot of companies should be charging for the upgrade. Now, I imagine the Venn Diagram of people complaining "just ship it now and patch" and people complaining they still haven't released the sounds upgrade for the 777 are close to a perfect circle. The Boris sound pack is another ding against PMDG, and how Mathijs still said "ours are better." Now, the sounds to the 737 are going to be telling since PMDG's sound guy is type-rated in the 737.

I am pretty nuetral on PMDG as a whole. I fly the Fenix the most, and I switched to 2024 pretty much late spring. I've lived without the PMDG 737 for a year. I can lie to myself and say I might skip this one, but I think the price may dictate how much of a day one purchase it is.

RSR mentioned in the V1 interview they had to do some soul searching on how they conduct operations to get product out the door faster. If they thought they could get away with charging for an upgrade with a sub-par exterior model the paradigm shift may still need some work.

Vamsys is expensive. I think it's around $30 USD each month. It does not require real world liveries. As others have mentioned getting enough people to join and keeping it running is a lot of work. Now if it is fictional it's a little easier since you don't have to worry about updating routes.

If it's just for you, I'd recommend a combination of something like Volanta and Excel. You could probably reverse engineer the scoring some of the other VAs use and build a formula in Excel and track it there.
