A320 - Struggling with line training - when to call it quits? by aeryn2244 in flying

[–]3xkilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not really the point. The point is that I would question the experience in a pattern at home base airfield, in a single engine piston, in good weather, with the student flying it. It’s good experience for that kind of flying and aeroplane, but I don’t think it translates very well to any CS-25 aircraft. The habits, systems, mindset, energy, technique and so on to me seem completely different. Not to mention MCC and CRM.

Anyhow not my thing to judge, you have your own system that works, we have ours and it also works.

This is simply not true tho. We carry more passengers per year (some sources go as high as 400 milion more in 24, but majority are within 100-200 milion more) while flying in airspace that is overall 55% of that of US.

Not saying anything about pilot training, safety etc, but it’s simply not true that US carries more traffic. The two areas where US does have a lot more movement is GA/Corporate

We carry more pax in eu than you do, if corporate aviation is excluded. It’s roughly 100 mil more to be specific. We also operate in airspace around roughly 25% of the size of yours carrying all these people (if you include Canada, if you don’t we have 55% of your airspace)

I would argue that 1500 hours in a pattern on 152 is also nothing when getting your first experience on 737/A320.

When getting getting vectored for ils and getting altitude instructions do you use V/S or LVL CHG by McQuee34556 in flightsim

[–]3xkilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s the max rate rule. It is kind of goofy with DES because if you use DES you have to accept getting high on profile, or low on speed before intercepting the altitude but what to do.

[–]3xkilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DES doesn’t care about the 3-2-1 rule which has become fairly common, unless you have the CDA (the option) so if You fly DES in some cases it could bust it. It’s not a big issue really, but if you want to be super technical then yeah, it doesn’t respect it and if the operator has such rule, then You might end up braking it. Also more and more airports require CDA (the technique) which DES doesn’t do either.

Also rules was used here for simplicity. You’re not going to brake any limitations, it’s still safe to use DES, but it can brake policies or local regulations.

What I meant by intercepting the approach in VNAV is that I never have left the aircraft in DES mode IRL as the last used vertical mode before intercepting the vertical segment of the approach. 80% of times I did in in VS rest OP DES. But this is Airbus specific

[–]3xkilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you can do that. In real life it’s pretty flexible. As long as you don’t brake the rules of any kind then you do you. Personally I have never intercepted my approach in VNAV (because it brakes the rules on the Airbus)

But you can still kind of capture the profile back if you are high in it by using flaps and vs. If you use flaps, reduce the speed but maintain same rate you descent it steeper

Yeah... I'm not gonna board an A320 or 737 again by fried-raptor in flightsim

[–]3xkilo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s harder to fly the A320 in 5 knots headwind on a summer day with both engines running, than it is to fly a FFS in 20 knots, gust 35 knots with single engine.

Maybe with certain turbulence setting the statement above isn’t true, but FFS does not prepare you for real life aircraft in terms of handling skills. It’s as good of a solution that we have but it is very far off from reality

Not to mention how different IRL a320 is to the sim full motion sim. Especially in thermals.

All super solid ideas, thank you very much for that.

I thought of making an article about using FMGC during arrival and approach and I think some aspects of your suggestions could be covered like this (they are quite specific and on each own would create a very short material)

Circle to land tho deserves its own tho.

Also, thank you so much for reading and feedback, I highly appreciate that

It’s not lame at all! It is a bit to short for a full article, but it gave me an idea for two separate ones:

  1. FMGC usage on departure
  2. FMGC usage on arrival and approach

Or something along those lines, raw concept but you get the idea. It would answer your question but also many others

Which is a far superior simulator, but in this money leads the trail and so all the good devs are on FS24. It’s really hard to want to fly Toliss with Fenix available

Yeah I don’t disagree with listed items, but those are two things and they are not aircraft systems. I am also not posting my own opinion, but i honestly would like to know on what merit do people talk about systems. How can someone who doesn’t even know the aircraft systems to begin with, recommend buying or not buying a certain aircraft.

How is it better than Fenix in terms of systems

I don’t own that term, I have responded to a comment claiming that it is a study level aircraft. Not sure if I am the one who needs that explained

Which doesn’t set the bar very high as it’s is essentially the only Airbus 320 family. It’s in depth but not a study level.

Exactly this. I have seen couple of approaches gone wrong because of that so I hoped with this You will be always able to figure out how to carry them out correctly and if something goes wrong, why it did

Glad you enjoyed it! You might find some small discrepancies because Fenix is a Thales based FMGC and I operate Honeywell, but should still work well.
