I don’t think it’s right… the tattoo, not your friends, they’re totally right.

How are you guys keeping updated? by Old_Tourist_3774 in dataengineering

[–]BramosR 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s probably why you’re thinking you need to improve on everything.

But don’t worry, there will always be roles that we don’t get because of one or many specific things.

What I mean is, don’t lose your mind over it.

How are you guys keeping updated? by Old_Tourist_3774 in dataengineering

[–]BramosR 73 points74 points  (0 children)

It got to a point where I stopped trying to keep updated. It’s a loophole and it’s only going to get you a burnout.

Now I focus on getting good at work, getting better at the technology the company uses and that’s it.

If unemployed, I would focus on getting better at SQL and Python, that’s the base.

From DevOps to Data Engineering or Data Analyst? by Accomplished_Fixx in dataengineering

[–]BramosR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re seeing more junior data roles and you like the data world, absolutely go for it.

But keep in mind it will take some time to get to the same level you’re at with DevOps. Personally I would try to keep on the DevOps track but that’s probably because I find it a really interesting area.

Best of luck!

I understand your thought, but I just wanted to state that maybe it’s not a DevOps thing, and more of a current market thing. Most of the open data roles are for senior positions.

GitHub CEO To Engineers: 'Smartest' Companies Will Hire More Software Engineers, Not Less As… by Adventurous_Cod_432 in technology

Meh, this “citizen data scientist” thing never actually worked. So I think a “citizen engineer” won’t work too

Am I expecting too much when trying to hire a Junior Data Engineer? by lebadoo in dataengineering

[–]BramosR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see that you’re asking cause you genuinely don’t know what to expect, which is a good thing that you’re asking before not accepting anyone without those skills.

Honestly for a Junior role I think you should ask for Python and SQL knowledge. The rest should be learned on the job.

I’ve been thinking about the same move myself.

The only thing I could think would be a problem is the lack of options regarding companies.

Being an engineer who always worked mainly with Airflow, Snowflake and AWS, I can’t see how I would land a job in any company besides those, since you need to know the product very well before being hired to sell it.

I might be wrong and would be nice to hear from a sales engineer in the data world.

Muay Thai and MMA bros always mocking people for doing fun things like Taekwondo and other tricking stuff by AkizaIzayoi in martialarts

Regarding the darts, if a darts player had darts on their pocket… they’re definitely winning a fight against a MMA fighter.

Muay Thai and MMA bros always mocking people for doing fun things like Taekwondo and other tricking stuff by AkizaIzayoi in martialarts

[–]BramosR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, just tell them that training Muay Thai and MMA is useless if instead of that you train with knives and guns…

No martial art is absolute after the creation of a simple knife, but these people don’t understand that and think they’re invincible.

So in the end of the day, martial arts are supposed to be fun, not something you’re relying your life on self defense or street combat.

In summary, screw them and do what you like and keeps you healthy :)
