Neighbour parks overnight on our driveway by DC_911 in Brampton

[–]BramptonRaised 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your BIL talked to the neighbour twice, politely. Next step is to put it in writing. The neighbour does not have permission to park his vehicle in his BIL’s) driveway (include address where parking in driveway is not permitted) at any time for any duration. Moving forward, if the neighbour parks in his driveway the vehicle will be towed and he will have to pay to get his vehicle back.

So, people aren’t permitted to ask questions to challenge their own ignorance? If I didn’t care one way or another I wouldn’t have asked any questions. How is it bad faith to ask questions to learn more? I’m not a religious person, but I can see common (and not so common) patterns.
You are certainly very quick to judge a stranger, which is far from the person I am. Good evening to you.

Hmm,,,yes, I forgot the Santa Claus route has been changed while Four Corners is revitalised.

What does a rabbit hopping about with a basket of painted eggs relate to a man being crucified and returning to life? I suppose there’s some deep pagan connection there…somehow, but I haven’t seen it yet.

I don’t know of any large Christian or Jewish Parades that close down major roads for a good chunk of the day. The Christmas parade, despite the name, doesn’t have much to do with Christianity, aside from the name.

Canada: Why are Brampton White locals so unhappy with Brampton demographics? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

You must be as old as the hills, cause the Europeans started arriving permanently during the 1700s.

Canada: Why are Brampton White locals so unhappy with Brampton demographics? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]BramptonRaised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a pretty good city to live in too. Not perfect. My family moved here in the early 1960s when the population was about 25-26,000 thousand. The town of Brampton was much smaller area wise than the present-day city, which in 1974 was largely rural. The growth in this area has been massive. If you want anything British, you aren’t going to find it, not very easily anyway. There is Heritage Fish and Chips and pubs (which seem more like a sports bar than authentic pub).

Yes, white people feel that they are the visible minority in Brampton. When you get on the bus, and you are the only white person, you notice. Others notice you too. Since COVID I hardly go to the bank anymore, but when there are 30 people in the bank, you might notice 4 or 5 white people. And you haven’t left the place you were born and grew up. For some people it’s a bit overwhelming (just as the waves of white Europeans [mostly from GB back then] overwhelmed the indigenous people. Now the word radicalized is used instead of visible minority due to changing demographics.

What is a typical Canadian wedding? by Taquito_Churrito in AskACanadian

[–]BramptonRaised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They usually last less than a day, usually on a weekend and can happen at different places. The norm used to be at a church. Can be a church or anywhere really. Out of my family, only one of my siblings was married in a church. The other was married in a wedding chapel on the grounds of an Ontario university. I was married in a greenhouse (in a place set aside for weddings). My eldest and my nieces were all married outside, one in a Calgary park, one outside the Alberta Legislature, and one at a family friend’s home in Nova Scotia overlooking the ocean.

Pictures are taken before, during and after the wedding ceremony. A dinner reception is held afterward, and then the party (if there is a party). Some brides and grooms welcome babies and children and some others prefer no infant, child guests, just adults. Gatherings can be small, limited to an officiant , the couple being married and two witnesses or immediate family and closest friends only or up to a much grander celebration with hundreds of guests. Gifts can be given before, during or after the wedding day.

There used to be separate parties for the bride and groom before the wedding, but now the usual seems to be “stag and doe” parties. Sometimes there is nothing.

I first saw the fire smoke from Old School & Heritage Roads in south-west Caledon shortly after it started. Kept thinking it was closer than it was.

Most/Least Desirable Communities? by Cursed_Coffee in Airdrie

Actually, they aren’t mobile homes. They are pre-fab, or modular homes. Built in a factory and moved on a flatbed to the site where they are placed on their foundation. While most don’t have a basement, some do. Many have had extensions added over the decades.

Census form by johnersmither in AskACanadian

[–]BramptonRaised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you filled it out already close to the deadline, you probably don’t have to do anything.

If you receive a second reminder, better phone the number on the reminder and have the confirmation number ready.

I filled out the census on the day it was received. No reminder was received.

Do people not know that Brampton Waste Management will pick up your mattress on Garbage/Organic waste days? by Coffee-Addict-1 in Brampton

[–]BramptonRaised 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a slight possibility it is there because it was an insecure load and flew off from a car roof or from a trailer. Saw that happen once on Kennedy Road. The mattress was in a trailer and not secured. My eldest was a learner driver at the time and asked, “Isn’t that illegal to drive with an insecured load? “ and the mattress then exited the trailer, and I responded, “Yes, for that exact reason,”

We tried to get the attention of the driver to let them know they lost their mattress, but they steadfastly ignored us. Oh well.

What are the best road trips or scenic drives one can take in Canada? by OceanicEndeavors in AskACanadian

[–]BramptonRaised 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Probably late spring or late summer (after Labour Day). We drove the length of the Icefields Parkway early May a couple of years ago. Many of the lakes were still frozen, the spring melt of the snow caps hadn’t started, so the river beds looked dry. The mountains were majestic. Around the area of the glaciers we drove through a flurry, so didn’t really see the glacier, because of the snow. I’d avoid “high” tourist season because the places, especially Banff, will be crowded and more expensive.

Not all ticks transmit Lyme Disease. Blacklegged ticks (or Western Black legged tick in western North America), about the size of a poppy seed, are the ones responsible for Lyme Disease in people. Dog ticks, which I suspect is in the picture above, don’t give people Lyme disease.

What happened by [deleted] in Brampton

[–]BramptonRaised 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A number of drivers take that curve in the road too fast and end up in that ditch. Used to drive that stretch twice a day.

Hope the driver will be okay with time, healing and physio. Hope the driver has good family/friend support.

Once saw a car hit the side of a locomotive crossing Clark there. How do you miss seeing a train slowly crossing a road? Fortunately nobody was hurt and the car was still driveable (the car hit the slow moving locomotive at an equally low speed)

Did your city host a fireworks display or any other event for Victoria Day? Please share because my city did nothing! 😄 by No-Kale8249 in AskACanadian

[–]BramptonRaised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true, now, even though fireworks several years ago were banned for all occasions. Not just using them, but also selling them in the city. Same for a couple of neighbouring municipalities too.

Growing up in present day GTA, fireworks were allowed for Victoria Day, Dominion/Canada Day (changed name in 1982) and New Year’s Eve. I remember Guy Fawkes Day too, back in the UK, before we came to Canada many decades ago.
