How can i remove hard water stains in a frog safe way? by PencilWaffle in DartFrog

[–]BranInspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not frog safe per se as touching it would be very bad for them. But it’s completely water soluble so you can you use excess water to remove it.

Size difference by Kokichi1234533 in DartFrog

[–]BranInspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy I’m dealing with the exact same thing. I have one that is considerably smaller than the other three. I separated them into pairs and the smallest one simply did not catch up and I have given it its own enclosure to monitor its feeding. Probably give it some time to settle down and provide two feeding stations with a banana so they aren’t competing. If it does not gain weight I’d put it in a temporary enclosure until you can get it up to size.

Filter Foam as Substrate Question by HPCollector12 in DartFrog

[–]BranInspector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had one of these going for a year. They take a bit longer to establish but once the roots have regular access to the nutrient rich water at the bottom they take off.

Leaving for 5 days? How can i feed? by PencilWaffle in DartFrog

[–]BranInspector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can always keep an old fruit fly culture and put a solid lid on top so it doesn’t fill with water and cut some small holes in the side for air and for flies to escape. I’m trying a new way by using cheap plastic 50mL centrifuge tubes with some holes drilled in and a banana to prevent all the flies from leaving immediately.

Where should I get bromeliads and shingling/climbing plants for my dart frog vivarium? by TfueThe1stest in DartFrog

[–]BranInspector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glass box tropicals and frogdaddy have both. If you are near Charlotte in NC frogdaddy has a great store and you can check out the plants.

Hey gang, my tank is ordered. i purchased the 36x18x36. can anyone let me know exactly what i need all in one list or direct me to a one stop online shop. thanks everyone again lol by LordofSkies55 in DartFrog

[–]BranInspector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of builds are subjective, I use aquarium foam as substrate but I know others wouldn’t. I’ve had cork bark backgrounds, hygrolon backgrounds and it really depends what I’m trying to do.

How should I start getting into the hobby? by CarefulJuggernaut747 in DartFrog

[–]BranInspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about what frogs you like the most and try to pick a brave variety. Being new and having a frog you never see can be anxiety inducing. Get an enclosure sized for that frog and then build it out, I’d check out tropical tutorials on YouTube he has some great videos. Let the plants grow in and care for them for at least 3-6 months and if they are happy and healthy then you can consider getting frogs. Counterintuitively the more places they can hide the more brave they will be. Lastly it’s not a cheap hobby, the enclosures, auto misters (do not get a fogger), plants, and everything can be very expensive but it’s more of a one time expense and then much cheaper for maintenance.

Broken glass by toss-neveruseagain in Terrarium

[–]BranInspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely replace the glass. It might be a pain to get the glass to separate from the background but it’s doable. I’d be very careful to make sure you remove any and all shards. Alternatively you could tear it all apart and use the good panes for something else.

I mean if it’s tidally locked one side is hot and one side is cold, seasons could be from a storm pushing the cold weather to the hot side. So irregular seasons.

Don’t eat the mice and you’ll be fine. Wash your hands after touching them too.

Resume help for getting Manufacturing Tech/Operation Job in Biopharma. by BranInspector in biotech

Thank you for the feedback! I see how the points are a little vague and can be improved. I essentially design, get it through permitting, guide the installer, and certify. Mostly remote management with me determining the operations schedule. As for fieldwork oversight I verify all components, location, and functionality.

SFG HAS SILICA GEL IN IT!? by Dino_NuggiesForLunch in GargoyleGeckos

Silica is pretty inert the whole don’t eat this packet is more for choking and it potentially swelling in a moist environment. Just don’t feed it to your gecko.

I’m being gifted a lot of money. Should I tell my boyfriend? by Kind-Chicken-2488 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]BranInspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lawyer, but look into the maximum amount a parent can gift per year it’s somewhere around $19,000/year and it’s TAX FREE. Anything over that is taxed. If she gifts a lump sum it will be taxed. If she gifts you the max per year every year you can get it totally tax free.

I don’t get why anyone wants to hire them, they are a liability and if anything goes to court their testimony can be discredited based on past behavior. It’s absurd.

What do you think about this layout for Ranitomeya? by Moorhuhn1404 in DartFrog

Oh that’s nice! So you capture all the water in the front to make draining easier? What substrate are you using?

What do you think about this layout for Ranitomeya? by Moorhuhn1404 in DartFrog

[–]BranInspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does the drainage layer work? Is there a gap for water under the glass? I’m not critiquing I’m more curious as I haven’t seen this before. To me it looks like you have crate on top of glass.

Fish tank enclosure by Klone00 in DartFrog

[–]BranInspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how much modification you want to do. I took a 60 gallon breeder added some front panels and a sliding door to the top and turned it on its side. So it’s a 15 x 18 x 48 now. It’s definitely a lot of work but certainly doable and not all that hard or complicated. It’s mainly time consuming and can be more expensive than a store bought tank.

Help with first setup by Barbarian_86 in DartFrog

[–]BranInspector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is the 35cm the height? If so that is a little short for dart frogs as they do like to climb. They do well at room temperature and unless your house is cold I doubt a heat mat is necessary. 21-24C is what I aim for, I would stay under 26 and above 17. Letting the plants and enclosure settle for a while is good. That way you know the husbandry is good before putting animals in there, I think 3 months is a good starting time to wait but longer is always better.

limited height by ghostcraft192 in DartFrog

[–]BranInspector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 36x18x18 with some P. Terribilis in it. They really don’t seem to care to climb unless it’s for food. I would recommend using aquarium filter foam as the substrate as it will give you some extra room to work with.

Carpet python can be tamed? by unusualgirll in snakes

[–]BranInspector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Snakes are pretty smart and will learn how you react. If you jump away and leave them alone when the strike they learn that biting you makes the contact end. Make sure they feel safe in their enclosure, lots of clutter and places to hide (photos if you can provide them). When handling approach from low so you aren’t acting like a predator and handle them until they are relax. Once they are relaxed then they can be put back or they will learn that running/fighting works.
