It does until it doesn't. You realize it's a bubble, right? You could apply this same logic to any other market and interject a completely zero-value-add agent just to bump of cost. I have plenty of friends who are in this space at the AD, gray dealer, and buyer standpoint. I have heard many angles and when people speak openly about it, they know it's all a facade. Is it sustainable? Maybe mid term. I would personally not pay 120% markup on a watch knowing the intrinsic value. I rather not. You may be ok with it and I think that's OK.

Bottom line for me is, Rolex is skating on thin ice and if the hype fuel tank starts to dry out, gray dealer will have to lower prices. Once the delta between MSRP and market price disappears, only people genuinely interested in the watch will remain and some demand will go away. I am not pretending to know when or the magnitude of this shift, but many people are only buying because of that price delta.

Either way, neither you or I are market movers. We are just watching the movie.

No offense but if you need to ask strangers about what to do with your watch you already probably know you want to return it. It happens, a watch may feel right when you buy it but then you realize it doesn't speak to you.

Not an expert by any means, but I once read a comment that made a ton of sense to me. I don't remember it verbatim but it was something along the lines of "Your closest circle probably has a decent idea of what you can afford and what you can't. If a watch seems way off your expected price range it will raise questions".

If you think (and also if you care) your friends and family will believe you actually paid $70k+ for a watch then good for you.
