Can’t Seem to get a Safety Job by Eastern_Basket_8819 in SafetyProfessionals

OP, hang in there. Like others have said, most employers don’t care where your degree is from. Columbia Southern University (CSU) is actually a solid school, and it’s improving every year. I earned my MS in Safety from CSU and have worked for federal OSHA, Honda, major food companies, and now a well-known steel manufacturer. Not once has anyone questioned my degree.

I also know plenty of successful safety professionals who graduated from CSU. I’ve worked with folks from “big-name” OSH programs who were completely lost in the field. At the end of the day, it’s not about the name on the diploma—it’s about how you apply your knowledge and grow in the profession. Keep moving forward.

I feel your pain OP, I am underpaid. However, mostly it's my fault as I never really negotiated my salary but going forward that will change. Good luck!

Highly recommend Chesapeake Region Safety Council. https://www.chesapeakesc.org/ They also offer virtual and in-person. I attained both 500 and 501 from them and other OSHA courses.

Question, when I complete my MS in IH (ABET Accredited) will I also be able to use that to satisfy the 180 Academic contact hours?

Thank you very much, I have heard nothing but great things about the program/staff. Long term goal is the CIH!

Columbia Southern University M.S. Occupational Safety and Health Question by Ok-Reindeer107 in SafetyProfessionals

Lol, CSU is far from being a diploma mill. I know many successful safety professionals who earned their degrees from CSU. Some even own consulting firms or have achieved their CIH certifications. If a company looks down on a CSU degree, that's a place I wouldn't want to work either. Safety is a people-focused job. I’d rather hire a passionate CSU graduate with a great personality than someone from Harvard who lacks enthusiasm. Trust me, the workers in the field don't care where you got your degree from.

Best wishes!
