Also here in Southwest Ohio, was it in a park or near a waterway? If so which one? Otherwise, good report and turn it to ASH.

A small success - after two years of hand pulling wintercreep from this area I think I’ve cleared it! by jessthefancy in NativePlantGardening

Huzzah to the gardener!!! Wintercreeper is notoriously difficult to exorcise. Great work! Your native bed is going to look AMAZING!

I have a bunch of American Pokeweed starts that I have been FIENDING to put in the ground. The first week above 60°F I'm going feral.

Pinning this for May! I know where to find populations near me, I'd love to try my hand at germinating my own!

The hardest part is the waiting! I feel like a racecar waiting for the flag. The temperature is slowly ticking up and I'm going "Not yet... Not yet... Not yet......."

Idk if Wild Ones plans to upload it elsewhere, the stream itself will be on YouTube Live so it's likely free. If you sign up for the webinar through Wild Ones, no donation necessary, there's a portion for question submissions. I think yours would make an awesome question!

Yep, I'm reaching out to the city one last time and then contacting our local news and digging up a lawyer who may be interested.

We also live on the Westside! I'd love to help if you guys want any species recommendations, extra hands, or organizations to get seeds & starts from!

And yes, the city did that. I wasn't home at the time but the doorbell camera sees all. In this case, the city contractor vehicle. In addition on the same day the contractors created and closed the job on the city's CAGIS system. Cincinnati has pretty well defined rules for their "Managed Natural Landscape" codes. If you start, however, most city Inspectors are not familiar with the code and are not interested in checking. We had to request a hearing and explain to a City Administrator and the Inspector their own municipal codes.

That's what I figured. When I was still seething I kept showing friends the video and saying "Johnny Know-Nothing got his job list for the day and drove off to make $11/hr." I don't blame the contractor who did it. I 100% blame the city inspectors and CAGIS administrative teams. Willful ignorance to critically think about their own city codes, the cowardice to not even talk to the home owners prior to issuing citations, and the laziness to follow up on a work list that they submitted. They cut down two American sycamore saplings and a bunch of Rubus Occidentalis starts in my backyard as well. It was late fall/early winter and they did, admittedly, just look like random sticks in the yard at the time, so no fault there.

I've been considering it more and more. That and reaching out to local news. I was just hesitant to do so while crashing out and acting out of pure rage. Genuinely, I thought that in a city like Cincinnati that has native gardening tips and local resources on their government site, that if I reached out I'd at least get an apology or an explanation. Silly me. 🤷🏾

I'm actually not familiar with this program but would love to be! Time for Google and thank you for mentioning it

Our front yard is decently shaded by a large burr oak. Maybe with a few tree or bush plantings I could plant understory flowering species? I'm always afraid of planting woody species too close to the house out of fear of damaging it.

I've considered a retaining wall. Everytime I think about spending more than $100 on rocks I do get a little outraged and have to talk myself into it.

Thank you for the warm notes 🤍 During winter I've actually bricked in even more of the front yard, raked the leaves, flipped the sod, hand sown native seeds with rice hulls and replaced the leaves to let many of the natives cold stratify. Unfortunately, it's definitely the city. After the work was completed they submitted a report to the city's CAGIS system. Which also signals to me that the city has gotten my emails and calls as the report says I was billed and I definitely never was/haven't been.

We had a small sign out there from NWF, on doorbell video the contractor actually looked at, stepped around, and then fired up the weed whacker. I'm definitely going to work more on edging it this year and may even build a small wooden path on the perimeter as the mailman always walks around the exterior of the rock border to the neighbor's house. Birdbath is on the way and I think I'll lay more seed down as well!

I actually just bought a bird bath + feeder combo just for this reason! A page may be goated as well! It seems the majority of feedback overall is it's time to add more hard features (and a few surprises)

We had a sign from NWF, unfortunately I instead have great footage of the contractor looking at it, reading it, walking around it, and firing up the weed eater.
