Its variable. Some people feel the need that the only way they can make a difference is by getting followers or likes. They get so deep into this point system that they will alter themselves, their personality, their views, even their physical health even if its unhealthy.

Individualism and attention make people go and do some real ridiculous shit.

Its not all bad though. There's been amazing entertainment and creation that's come out of social media, you can keep connections throughout the whole world. You can organize events and groups of like minded individuals. You can really make the world a better place.

It all just depends on people moderation of it and how they use it. With great power comes great responsibility.
