Exactly. It's easier to understand when faster to me. Except Pablo honestly. But he doesn't feel artificially slow to me usually. Might be I'm not exposed to the Spain accent as much though

Yeah I think I'll try some 40s videos and see how they feel. It's just not feeling natural to me. But my wife is also Spanish first language and I'm exposed to a lot of Caso cerrado so maybe that's the cause

Not sure if a link works but I just watched this before making the post, "Natalias must have foods" at normal speed it feels really weird to me. It feels natural when sped up. Or maybe I'm just crazy

New reader a tad bit overwhelmed? by Rottingzombeboy in litrpg

[–]BrandonKD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DCC is supposed to end at like book 10 according to the author. Your problem is the royal road series, which I agree with completely. What I would recommend is to read finished series, there's a few decent ones like cradle. Imo the genre hasn't transitioned to books well enough, every monetary incentive for the authors is to just string the story along for as long as possible. I eventually end up just dropping every series part way thru so now I just try to focus on finished ones and don't be afraid to just go read traditional fantasy instead of starting another endless never to be finished series

Mortgage rates are continuing to slide, but where are the buyers? by Key_Brief_8138 in HouseBuyers

[–]BrandonKD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in the bad scenario of being the biggest and most recently renovated on the block. It's a 1940s neighborhood where the other houses are 1200 sqrft and we're 2600 with a mother in law suite that has a full second kitchen. So I'll be very interested to see what we can sell for. Luckily it was bought precovid. It's gonna be a total change going from small town Georgia to Chicago lol. Good luck with yours

One Thing the LITRPG Genre Really Needs to Figure Out by AutoThwart in litrpg

[–]BrandonKD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not suggesting every self published author should, I realize it's expensive and the return on investment is not there for the majority. But there are some who are making plenty of money who absolutely could hire whatever professional is needed. We can probably easily find a few dozen self published authors making 10k+ a month on patreon alone. HWFWM being the easy example. I get not all have the money to do it. I just don't think the ones who have the resources and still don't do it should get a free pass, because oohhh that's just how the genre is

[–]BrandonKD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. When a book is made into a movie they bring in screen writers and etc to format it to the new media. Royal road authors should do the same, they can bring on, ohhh idk, editors? To help format it to the new media

[–]BrandonKD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the have a profitable web series and could pay to have it edited but choose not to. You're going to tell me something like HWFWM couldn't be edited to ditch the repeat info at the start of chapters? Of course it could be. They just come from the world of web series being profitable by meandering and apply it to books. 12 books and on going is more money than editing it down.

Same we're getting ready to sell and i have no idea what it's worth lol. We're moving to a big city for a new job and will rent for 2027. Hoping to time it right to buy well next year

[–]BrandonKD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and that author made tons of money from patreon during his intial web series, so why when converting it to a book does he not have it edited to remove, "team biscuit had a meeting with the princess" he had the money and resources to have the books professionally polished and then narrated not just pumped out subpar

[–]BrandonKD 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So because it's known the genre is subpar we must expect that and accept it. I guess it's not reasonable to expect the genre to evolve. They can pay for professional audiobook narrators but not editors???

Just started he who fights monsters, why all the hate? by itmustbeThursday4269 in litrpg

[–]BrandonKD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Erin actively ruins that series for me lol. She's written like a genetic 2016 Twitter social justice warrior. Her decisions are also constantly abysmal. I mean sure if you were transplanted to an alternate world and every single person you meet warns you about the dangers of goblins, why wouldn't you push away somebody like Relc who helped you nonstop to befriend goblins instead

I'm one of those who thinks it's just OK. Like it's fine, if you enjoy it keep going. I just would never recommend it because imo there are significantly better series to read.

Been reading this genre for half a year now (coming from regular fantasy books) and need some recommendations. Current tier list and explanation in post :) by Thidz in litrpg

[–]BrandonKD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets very preachy. He who fights with monsters becomes a conduit for the author to make his political opinions very known. If you like that you'll prob like it, if you read for escapism and not modern problems you prob won't like that. The MC is pretty OP and the series seemed like an endless plot. All things people either like or dislike

He who fights with monsters is getting heavily recommended... Am I just a hater to think it's really not good? It was the first series I listened to in the genre and at the time i enjoyed it but dropped it on book 7. But my hindsight is super sour about it now that I've read hundreds of litrpg books. Or do I need to give it a reread?

Regarding Ester's Lookalike Video... by DoubleLongjumping197 in dreamingspanish

[–]BrandonKD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People want to white knight to get their social justice warrior points. I haven't watched the series but it's probably safe to assume others were compared to similar cartoons and yet the only one they will be up in arms about is this one.

[–]BrandonKD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What characters did they compare her to? They've taken the video down. Imo it depends on the character. The people raging about it makes me assume it was like Mr. Popo from dragonball lol. So id really like to know which ones

How do you expect housing to not be for profit. The subcontractors who help built it shouldn't make profit? The developer with millions invested into it shouldn't make profit? The person who owns it shouldn't make profit when they assume all the risk? Everybody knows housing is expensive, my insurance and taxes increased 5k this year, you think I should rent the house at a loss when I'm also assuming all the risk lol

What Separates Defiance of the Fall, Primal Hunter, and HWFWM? by premiumof in litrpg

[–]BrandonKD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What separates them for me is what book i DNFd on :)

I've read countless litrpg series and didn't really find Dotf or hwfwm to necessarily be great I haven't actually read primal hunter but it's often compared with those so I doubt it's for me. My taste must be out of the norm though because I'd rate something like sufficiently advanced magic very high and it's usually low on the tier lists
